Mainebass1984 Posted July 18, 2014 Posted July 18, 2014 I have to hand it to you, Mainebass. You get the numbers like nobody I've ever met or seen. Most of the time, you are getting 7 to 10 bass per hour. That is fantastic! I really never get more than 2 or 3 per hour. Lots of learning and skill improvements needed on my part. Are you getting those great numbers in big water or smaller lakes/ponds? Are these lakes highly pressured? When you fish the weightless rage craws, are you using the full size, baby size or the new Denny Brauer DB size?   I have been fishing one particular lake after work as much as I can here in VT. It took a couple times to really get on them good. Since then I have been fishing A LOT there after work. Spending as much time as I have been on that particular body of water really lets me fine tune where they are and what they want. I don't always catch as many bass as I have been lately. It has been super good. Pertaining to my last post, the 2 of us caught 42 bass, not me alone. Either way the action has been amazing. I don't tear them up like that every where, sometimes I am getting 2 or 3 fish an hour as well. The body of water I fish after work in VT is 350 acres. It is not tournament pressured but it does get a good amount of pressure. There is always someone there fishing week day or not. Weekends are especially busy there. I was using the full sized rage craws will a size one drop shot hook using 8 lb flouro. Great for getting lots of bites but not so good getting big fish out of heavy cover. Lots of the fish in this particular pond are 1.5-2.5 lbs. Fish over 4 are not common. Biggest I have landed there is a 6-8. I figured out something interesting about 3 years ago that pertains to bass fishing everywhere, in my opinion. You see a lot of guys go up and down a shoreline or area catching a fish every now and then. They make one pass most of the time and move on. I have found that at times when you catch a bass off of a spot there is a congregation of bass at that spot. Sometimes 2 or 3 some times 20 or 30. Sure spots like that aren't exactly common. When I do find spots like that I mark them with my GPS because I know it is a "good" spot. I will stay on that spot for some time, 10 or 15 minutes, or maybe even an hour, as long as the bite is still good. I like to concentrate my time on spots that hold lots of fish and big fish. That's how I catch so many at times. In my opinion (you know what they say about opinions) a lot of fisherman fish too fast and leave an area before all the fish are caught. They catch a fish or two and move on, instead of thoroughly fishing an area and catching 5 or 6. Quote
mebisho Posted July 18, 2014 Posted July 18, 2014 Not sure of where I'm headed this weekend but I hope I have half the success of Mainebass Quote
YungAngler Posted July 18, 2014 Posted July 18, 2014 Been really tough fishing for me the past couple weeks. Had a horrible trip up at the finger lakes in NY. We didn't catch many and not one over 1.5 pounds on a boat for 16 hours. Then the last day of our trip, we pulled over on the side of the road near a lake we hadn't fished, and my buddy hooked a 3.5 lber from shore. Go figure.  Finally fishing back in NH today and although I only got 2 in the boat, one was 4.5 lbs. My biggest LM of the year. Pics aren't great but I took a couple. YungAngler Posted July 18, 2014 Posted July 18, 2014 Caught on the jig and craw btw. Can't not have one tied on while in the boat. Quote

Maine, you are so right about fishing too fast and moving too quickly. I tend to drift in my kayak and if I don't use an anchor it's tough to stay in one spot, even when I'm catching good fish. I tend to move around a lot. Also, when I hook a quality fish I tend to get complacent, and proud of myself, instead of putting a line back in the water quickly and trying to find her friends. If I can master my kayak, keep the tackle problems to a minimum, and be better prepared on the water, I'm confident I can catch bigger and better fish. I just wish I had a job that would allow for more time on the water. YungAngler Posted July 18, 2014 Posted July 18, 2014 Â Recent trip down Mousam Lake this is my first video I made with my video sports camera. I look forward to seeing some fish action on that camera. Â Â Quote
Mainebass1984 Posted July 19, 2014 Posted July 19, 2014 Who is fishing ? Â I will be out this afternoon. Trying to get my buddy a 5 lber. Quote
Super User Shane J Posted July 19, 2014 Super User Posted July 19, 2014 Just got in from fishing this morning. Slayed the fish from 5:30- 8:00, biggest just a click under 5lbs. Battery's on the charger, and heading back out this evening. Also fishing early tomorrow morning, like 4:00am. Topwater and jigs was the name of the game this morning. Biggest was on the jig. 1 Quote
bobh64 Posted July 19, 2014 Posted July 19, 2014 Â Never know what you might find out on the water. This was Mousam Lake, ME. My fishing partner Cosmo. Quote
Fly_Fisherman Posted July 19, 2014 Posted July 19, 2014 Got out fishing with a few friends during a camping trip yesterday. It was tough between the wind and trying to show 6 people who have very limited fishing experience the ropes. After countless stops to untangle and retie peoples lines I got onto a good fish for myself. Weighed 4lb 5oz at 18.5 inches. Edit, my friend isn't the greatest photographer but these get the job done. 1 Quote
mebisho Posted July 20, 2014 Posted July 20, 2014 Didn't get to go out today, but I did get a trolling motor, Minn Kota 30 lb thrust. That should get the canoe flying. Haven't got the battery yet, looking for best deal. Will be heading out in the morning, not sure where yet 1 Quote

Needing four for my boat, three to run my 36vt trolling motor alone I cant afford to have one not take a charge. I have been using these for years. Dover Marine is where I get mine. 1 Quote
Mainebass1984 Posted July 20, 2014 Posted July 20, 2014 Fishing was great yesterday afternoon numbers wise. My friend Nick and I landed 79 bass form 4 pm til dark. A lot of smaller 1-2 lb fish though. It was fun. We had multiple doubles which is always interesting. Caught a bunch of 2 1/4 -2 3/4 lbers. Sadly though I lost the biggest fish of the day. It was just after dark and I was throwing a buzz bait. Had the fish to the boat and my friend also had a fish on. Instead of netting it I tried to flip it into the boat. Big mistake. The fish shook off half way in the boat. It wasn't a huge bass but I would guesstimate around 3.5 pounds. We didn't even break 3 lbs for the day which is pretty sad when you catch 79 bass. Lately I have been having good luck for bigger bass with an old fleck buzz bait. I don't think they make them anymore which is a bummer. Hopefully everyone is catching fish this weekend. Quote

Super User Shane J Posted July 20, 2014 Super User Posted July 20, 2014 My two biggest fish of the day never made it into the boat, either. One was a complete sea beast that cleared the water hitting my Spro Popper. She didn't really get it, though. Big fish, we'll just leave it at that. The other one, was a hit on an 8" swimbait, and it was like a punch to the gut. Only had her hooked up for a few seconds, but while she was, she showed me who was boss. Too bad I never saw that fish, cuz she made me work my 7'7"Heavy Cumara overtime! 1 Quote
mebisho Posted July 20, 2014 Posted July 20, 2014 Got to the lake, unloaded the canoe and then got it all ready and then I realized I forgot a paddle. Put everything back, loaded the canoe, went home, got paddle and went local Horseshoe Pond. Got a few small lmb but got to watch a school of bass chase baitfish around in the middle. I dug out a Banjo Minnow and got a couple of 2.5 lbs. then lost the minnow. Trying to figure out how to download pics Quote

mjggjm12 Posted July 20, 2014 Posted July 20, 2014 Welcome aboard James. and Welcome to the area.  Dont forget Stump pond behind Joeys diner. There is also some area on dream lake that is fishable from shore.  I tried both of these places today and could not find any bank access or places to park at either. It looks like all private property around stump pond and dream lake has plenty of bank access but it has a private driveway all the way around it. Does anyone know where to access these spots for bank fishing? YungAngler Posted July 20, 2014 Posted July 20, 2014 Dropped my nicest spinning rod in the drink while catching a nice 4 lber. I kicked it right out if the Nucanoe while pulling her out of the weeds. It was either save the fish or the rod. I chose the fish. I tried diving to see if I could recover it, but no dice. Couldn't see a thing, and was having a tough time treading water in 20'. Time for a new spinning set up I guess. Quote
Super User Shane J Posted July 21, 2014 Super User Posted July 21, 2014 What?! I'd never dive in for a combo, not even a $600 combo. Of course, I'm not that great a swimmer, either. I'd be ticked, but I sure ain't goin' in! Quote
