bobh64 Posted July 8, 2014 Posted July 8, 2014 Did Moose pond with my dad yesterday. The wind was stronger then expected but was still able to catch about a dozen good sized fish 2-5lb range. Most were under the large boulders 5-10 ft of water throughout the lake. The morning was the best hit then it slowed as the wind sped up. Jigs with a missile d bomb, gitzits smoke or chartreuse and wacky rigged senko black with blue flake caught the majority of the fish. Now to fish Great East in a couple minutes. Quote
Mainebass1984 Posted July 8, 2014 Posted July 8, 2014 Fishing was great yesterday in the wind and passing showers. I decided to take yesterday off so I could have a mini vacation. The wind made it a bit tough but the bite was good. Fishing during the rain was really good. Back to work this morning and back on the water this afternoon. Quote
nhbassin Posted July 8, 2014 Posted July 8, 2014 Hey guys, just moved to the area and went out on Baboosic Lake with no luck. Any tips for lure choice just to get some fish in the boat? Just an FYI, Milfoil was found in Baboosic 2 weeks ago for the first time, and people are verrry protective of the lake. Since I know there is no public access, I would be careful of where you are fishing from, because people wont hesitate to call the cops for trespassing now that they think someone else brough in milfoil. Just giving you a heads up. Looks like Nashua Nev gave some other good options in the area too...Nev probablly knows the bodies of water around your area better than anyone, so hes a great resource. 2 Quote

Did you weigh that lunker ? Quote
PLombard68 Posted July 8, 2014 Posted July 8, 2014 I'm also going to give Massabesic a shot soon. Hi mebisho and welcome to the forum.I fish Massabesic all the time. Great place to fish and it has some big bass as well as brook, rainbow and brown trout. Although having a boat is the best bet to get the big fish or trout there is some pretty good shore fishing at some spots. You can launch at Clare's landing on 121 in Auburn with a boat and trailer or if you have something smaller like a canoe or kayak there is the Deerneck bridge cartop launch on bypass 28. There is also another place to launch with a boat and trailer at the Candia road boat launch not to far east from the rotary near the park entrance. For shore fishing there is a hundred places to try starting with the park on the bypass near the rotary. You can also walk a lot of the trails around the lake to find quiet areas to fish. Just remember that you can't step into the water or any part of your skin can touch it because the lake is drinking water for Manchester and other communities and run by Manchester water works. Other places to try around Lake Massabesic is little Massabesic on Raymond Rd in Auburn which is walk in only as well as Clark pond on Depot Rd in Auburn. Hope all this helps. Quote
PLombard68 Posted July 8, 2014 Posted July 8, 2014 Anybody fish in or near the North Conway area at all and can give some tips on where to fish for Bass? mebisho Posted July 9, 2014 Posted July 9, 2014 Thanks Minnow, I work in Concord so I will try some shore fishing on the way home. I have a canoe and plan to use that on weekends. Can you put a canoe in at the picnic area just after the rotary? I am heading to Newfound Lake Saturday. I've never been, psyched to go there and slam small mouths Quote

bobh64 Posted July 9, 2014 Posted July 9, 2014 Day two of three days of fishing is done at Great East Lake over 2 dozen bass caught sizes were 2 lbs to 4 1/2 pounds. Chatter baits paired with a paddle tail (gold/white or white/shad blue) were the winner today along with jigs rigged with berkley craws, wacky rigged senkos and 10 ft diving crankbaits. around the rocks 1 Quote

Where were those 2-5 lbers during the tournament ? Did you weigh that lunker ? I fished the bridge (south) and went to the basin on the other side but soon retreated because of the wind it kept pushing us back to the bridge. I wish I had these same fish to weigh for the tournament lol. the lunker was 4.89 on the scale I would have a picture but my dad couldn't get the phone camera to work right. But the main thing my dad had a blast there. Quote

Nashua Nev Posted July 9, 2014 Posted July 9, 2014 Had plans to fish a pond up in Concord for the afternoon, plan changed but not my choice. I ended up with my kayak at the NHTI pond. Caught a lot of fish many 15 - 16 inch a few smaller 6 close to 18 inch. biggest was 19. -- 1 pickerel at 23 inch 21 fish total Fished for 1 1/2 hour with a 23 inch pickerel a 19 inch bass and and 6 close to 18 there has got to be some bigger ones in there. I think I am going to give it another try with the kayak next time I am up there with not a lot of time. It is pretty good size and has some decent depth, seems to have good food supply , lots of places to hide so with Shane giving me some insight I was looking for deeper drops and upsizing some rage worms. 2 Quote

My sister is moving up there soon and I'm going to need something to do when I go visit her. I would recommend going just across the border in Maine. There are many small ponds in the area that hold big bass. If you do not want to buy a Maine license then your options are a bit limited. Conway Lake has pretty good smallmouth fishing and there are largemouth in there too. Lower Kimball Pond which is in Maine and New Hampshire has good smallmouth and largemouth fishing too. Upper Kimball Pond has some good smallmouth fishing as well. There are other opportunities just south of North Conway in Tamworth and Chocorua. Quote
Mainebass1984 Posted July 9, 2014 Posted July 9, 2014 Fishing was decent yesterday afternoon for my friend and I. The wind really was cranking 10-20 mph up until about 630 pm. There were white caps and with my small boat that is NEVER a good thing. We toughed it out and between the two of us we caught 36 largemouth mostly 1-2.5 lbs. Our lunker for the evening was 18 inches but it was super skinny. It didn't weigh three pounds. We fished until 9 pm so we had about 4.5 hours or so on the water. We caught most of our fish on jigs and chatter baits. Lucky we left when we did. As we just finished loading up my boat a severe thunderstorm rolled in with lots of lightning, a torrential down pour, hail and recorded wind gusts over 60 mph. Glad we weren't on the lake for that. I will be back out on the lake this evening. Hopefully will get a few big fish bites. 1 Quote
bobh64 Posted July 9, 2014 Posted July 9, 2014 Day three of 3 days of fishing is done. Did horn pond with a family friend and two teenage boys. caught 3 dozen fish including smallmouth I finished off with one weighing 6.2 lbs all in all a good three days of fishing. 1 Quote
Nashua Nev Posted July 10, 2014 Posted July 10, 2014 I live in Nashua but fish up in Concord , Loudon area usually once a week. No secrets , Its simple ,I see water and fish it. I try to give every place I try a fair chance to prove to me there are no fish. Typically I will fish a place 3 times before I start wondering if its worth it. Some places surprise me right from the get go. Others take a few trips. I will fish them different ways with different baits in different types of weather and really give every place a chance to show me what it has to offer. NHTI for example , I have fished maybe 6 times. every time it produced some fish, once it produces some bass , in my mind I assume there are more. a big fish like a 23 inch pickerel requires food. if it supports a 23 inch pickerel I figure I will probably never catch the biggest fish in a place. So my thinking is simple, there must be bigger, now I just have to find them. I caught a bunch of 15 - 16 inchers an 18 and a 19 then in my theory there is bigger. There is a lot of water up there. I have a list of places in the Clarkes book for NH Fishing ponds. Trout ponds hold bass also. Exit 17 , fish the railroad bridges and back areas and slower moving water, always fish the weeds. NHTI Pond Merrimack river at the NHTI launch go across the other side and fish all of that area follow it around. (I have not fished much of the big part of the Merrimack river itself in this area) At the liquor store on the highway they are rebuilding there is a body of water, fish across the other side where the fallen trees are. Crooked pond in Loudon Stumpfield turkey pond turtle pond turee pond on my list, are some of the other river areas up there. --- Horseshoe pond in Concord. ---- Pinnacle pond, need to find kayak access --- a lot of small water hold big fish. small water , no big boats , no tourneys , less pressure , this is my thinking. much of what I learned has been here. thru these other guys. this southern nh thread --- there are 3? other closed southern nh threads from years past. research them , tons of info. a basic rule of thumb Shane told me --- structure, oxygen, food ----structure,,, bass need a place to hide and ambush, underwater stumps , trees , brush, rocks, drop offs find these, underwater many times not seen above water ----- oxygen , green weeds, grass, pads , green usually equals oxygen , also water falls and water dropping areas creates oxygen also equals a place to hide and ambush. ------ Food supply, find baitfish evidence of crawfish pieces. above all --- have fun. if you put in the time and the effort, you will find fish. sometimes we all get lucky and find a big fish by accident, --- even a blind squirrel finds a nut. find a place you like , figure it out, fish different parts of it , find the structure underwater, and try to find the big fish. some places go thru cycles, like lake Naticook in Merrimack. some big fish have been caught in past years. fish die, get caught and eaten (not everyone practices catch and release) get old etc... right now I believe Naticook is going thru a cycle of no big fish. by big I mean 3+ Between winter kill , treating for milfoil and all the other stuff. give it another year to rebound. there is also a big population of 10 -12 inch pickerel in Naticook, this keeps bass #s down also. also, expect to catch pickerel,,,, they want the same thing the bass do. I usually find them in the same areas together. feel free to comment on any info I write, these are my thoughts and opinions, I am always open to hearing other thoughts, opinion, facts. anybody want to discuss why the chicken crossed the road? I think there was water across the road he wanted to fish. Quote
Nashua Nev Posted July 10, 2014 Posted July 10, 2014 Someone asked me about the Nashua river. This past month ,, good luck ,,,, I cant find them right now in the Nashua river Stellos area. I have plans to fish between technology launch behind clocktower place and Main st bridge area of the Nashua soon. I have not fished it this year. Quote
mebisho Posted July 10, 2014 Posted July 10, 2014 Thanks for all the info Nashua Nev, I really appreciate it. I've been away from fishing for quite a while and since moving to NH 12 years ago, I have never fished this area. I used to live in Cape Cod and fished just about every day, salt and freshwater. But back into it and having a blast Naticook reminds me of a place I fished at a lot in Mass. Lots of little clumps of land poking out of the water but are eroded under the surface. That's where I think some big fish may be. I used to use the Langer Flying Lure to work under the clumps of stuff on top. The lure would swim away from the cast and would get in those places. I know I have some of those lures somewhere. I'll get them out and try on Sunday. Saturday morning, I'm headed to Newfound, I've never been there but heard that it's got a reputation for big fish. A cousin has a place there and can put us on some fish This forum is awesome, I will try to contribute with good info and pictures and stories Quote
Mainebass1984 Posted July 10, 2014 Posted July 10, 2014 Fished yesterday afternoon from 4 til dark. Took a friend fishing in my boat for the first time. He had a blast and caught the biggest bass of the year so far for him. It was a bit windy to start but after a rain shower moved through it calmed down pretty good. The water temperature was 76 degrees a couple degrees colder then it has been. The wind was blowing 10-20 mph out of the south when we got there. Most of our fish came on rubber worms, chatter baits, crank baits and frogs. Frog fishing is always fun. My buddy Matt caught a 3 lb 14 oz bass his biggest so far. I got lunker for the day a beautiful chunky 21 inch 5 lb 0 oz largemouth. There is a pic of it on the who wants in July thread. We ended the evening with 38 bass in the boat a bunch of them 12-16 inches. My friend Matt already wants to go again. Not sure if I will get out on the water this evening but I will be for sure this weekend. 1 Quote
Nashua Nev Posted July 10, 2014 Posted July 10, 2014 The State actually did a fish count and condition check last year at Naticook. My info on Naticook going thru a lull / rebound process actually comes from them. Lots of pickerel 10 -12 inch , small bass . black crappie , kibbies , no bass over 1.5 according to the state guy were counted at least 1 eel ,,, we caught one last yr Quote

I just discovered this forum. Great info on here so far. Now I have some places to go try out Quote
PLombard68 Posted July 11, 2014 Posted July 11, 2014 Can you put a canoe in at the picnic area just after the rotary? No, but there is a canoe/kayak launch about 1 1/4 miles down the road going south. Quote
