Welcome to the group  bgwin, I personally have never fished Baboosic but I know several people on here will have answers for you soon. Were you shore fishing in a boat/canoe ?

I have access to a small motorboat boat so mostly I will be using that.

Hey guys...just looking for a little info or opinion. I am fishing with a club in NH next Saturday July 12th (NH Basscasters). The tournament is at Lake Winnipeasauke out of Moultonborough. My question is how are those smallmouth doing right now at Winni? Are they swimming deep and if so how deep? What style of fishing you been doing lately on Winni? Drop shot, throwing a tube, grub or jerkbait or whatever else? If the fish are shallow are they around rocks or off drops or points? Any info would be great. I have not fished Winni in a few years and just trying to get a little info on what is going on with the fish in the amazing lake.

Thanks

Bob since you seem to be most active, what time of lures would you recommend starting with on smaller type lakes?

Hit Halfmoon Lake in Barnstead for the first time ever.Bass were relating to rock sections.Caught LM and SM all on Keitech Swing Impact swimbait.Won't be back until end of September.Water skiers at 8;00 in the morning was a little too much for me.

night fish those places after the skiers are gone and also 4am-8am.  It sucks but they have every right to ski , just a we do to fish.  I understand there is a lot more disrespect these days than 30 yrs ago, there are also a lot more people.   also remember there are a lot of big fish in small water. small kayak and no gas motor water.   no tourneys on small water, peaceful , easy , no pressure.

Hi,

I am new to the forum. I grew up bass fishing in Florida, I have lived up here for 8 years and have not done much fishing here. Looking to start doing more fishing now. Can anyone tell me some good places to bank fish for bass within 15 or 20 miles of Milford  and what lures to use? Any advice is appreciated.

I put up a photo a couple threads up of what I use, A nice slow speed reel works wonders I use a 5:4.1 with 10lb floro. if you do it right you will feel the thumping of the blade I try to get it so the blade is slow without stalling. Put in some quick jerks and pauses to make it life like. My favorite spots to throw is along a pronounced weed line or though pad areas in 2ft of water. Across channels or rocky points if I am going after smallmouths. This works for me but I'm sure there are many ways to use it.

You can't go wrong with a ragetail set up for a jig and never laugh at the wacky riggged with a senco or equivalent. natural colors in sunlight black w/red or blue flakes on cloudy days. I would look for deep ridge lines that are near to shores, bass will be going up and down them during the day. Fishing Moose Pond (ME) Monday, Great East Tuesday and Horn Pond Wednesday myself

Hi,

Looking for some info on Silver lake in Madison NH, heading up there this Saturday for a tournament I know there are some big smallies there, haven't done well there in the past but at least I have a gps, and lake map this time......any pointers out there?

Hi, new to the group. Having a great time reading through this thread. I fished Naticook Lake on Sunday, caught quite a few small bass up to 1.5 pomds on spinner baits and lipless cranks. Heading to Newfound on Saturday. First time there but a cousin has a place there and can show me the ropes. I'm also going to give Massabesic a shot soon. Also scouting the Nashua River, does that have canoe access?

ok so i posted this in the main forum but id figured this is more state specific.

Ok so the past few years I have really picked up my bass fishing and absolutely love fishing. Before that i have fished just a few times a year.  I’m a single stay at home dad and have plenty of time to fish. I am fairly new to Amherst, I moved from Dover. I have been fishing round pond in Nashua a lot since I lost a 6+ lb. bass due to a failed braid tie to the hook L I have switched to mostly jigs and trailers and since my numbers caught have dwindled but my size when I do catch is almost always over 2.5lbs or more.

I have caught 2 3lbs+ bass at round pond and about 3 2.5lbs with many bites and failed hook sets. Bottom line is I love bass fishing, I’m learning to use the bait caster much better and I’m looking for someone who wants a good fishing buddy eager to learn.

I’d love to maybe join a bass club and start tourney fishing but I have no boat which is also driving me nuts. Im also eager to get into topwater fishing but only have one frog and no luck.

I would have posted sooner but i just recently got new hearing aids and have been pretty much deaf for 4 months so i would not have been a good fishing buddy then lol. I have been a longtime lurker though on this forum.

Welcome aboard James.  and Welcome to the area.   Dont forget Stump pond behind Joeys diner.  There is also some area on dream lake that is fishable from shore.  also...  you can only use 1 frog at a time so if thats all you got,  I would be throwing it 20 times and then tie it again also retie after pickerel.  a frog works well at Stump Pond. I use a white snagproof mouse more than i should but it produces.  I also pop it rough

On top water i use this --- here is a pic ---

th_20140707_154858.jpg

the tail gets spike it garlic and the head gets the smelly jelly  -- my thinking is the stuff gets the fish to hold on a second longer which equals a better hook up rate.   Also i bend the hooks up just a bit to dig in and hook better.   For me it works.

None of my fishing buddies will use them.  these things are $2.99    I have black, pink, gray and white.   I use white 95% of the time.  and i use it everywhere.  not just weeds and grass.   I use braided line 30lb

I twitch the thing ever so lightly most of the time. I also pop it rough I always have 1 tied on one of my rods.

I also use a lot of rage tail craws and lobsters weightless.

Bass Hunter ----  welcome aboard --  but i dont know that area at all

Mebisho also welcome aboard  -- your area i can help a little.

Nashua river has great access off of Tilton st which is off of Broad st , it also has access at Mines Falls which is also Stellos Stadium.

In front of the Nashua river you will find Mill pond.  Dont ignore it.  The weeds are a pain , but it holds some nice fish.   easy access too.

Baboosic lake holds some nice fish too.  I cant give you the access info as i dont know where it is.  I only know go right go left another left then a right around the corner and you are there.  I oput in at the public beach and carry my kayak or drag my canoe with wheels.

Horseshoe pond in Merrimack ,  another weedy place but some big fish are caught every year.  i fish a lot of those weeds and pads at the entrance and also all the way around the loop.

Dont underestimate the Merrimack river,  it also holds a lot of fish.  especially up towards the old railroad bridges in the bedford area.

you can google earth a lot of these places.   as well as just a google search.

a quick google search --- fishing horseshoe pond merrimack nh   --- brings you these which are great ,  but the guys on this board are incredible wealth of knowledge

hope this helps ,  and be sure to jump in and join Jitterbugs thread ,  who wants in July.  Post your pics,  every month the contest starts again ..  5 longest Bass wins.

Right now everyone is trying to catch Mainebass with a massive 110+ inch for the season.  Its not too late to join us for July.   We have not heard much from ShaneJ yet this year but if he gets his fishing time in we are all going to have to work overtime to keep pace.   These guys have some great knowledge as does Bob and some of the others.  I always poke around trying to find some of their secrets.   These guys know what they are doing.  And really know some water.

What's your game plan when you fish here (I do have access to a boat)? I've had no luck catching anything other than 1 pound large mouths. I went out last night and was using a small grey Slug-Go and they wouldn't leave it alone but everything I caught was tiny.

Possibly try upsizing  6 or 7 inch,  and if you are fishing at night a big black jitterbug (try different speeds) or buzzbait.   I usually fish the docks to the left of the beach then i head right around the corner. I dont know Baboosic very well but make sure you fish any underwater stuff you can find sticking up and any grass,   lately most bigger fish i have caught have either been at the edge of the weeds (weightless rage craw) or less than 1 foot from shore. (white mouse)

purple and green pumpkin have been good colors lately --  white has stopped producing with underwater plastics but from march thru may white was working great.

Thanks for all the tips. I walked Mine Falls with the my dogs and thought that there should be some good fish in there

I live at the Merrimack end of Baboosic LakRd, I don't know of public access. I was told to park at the Amherst Beach before the residents came for the day. I will try it out during vacation

I went to the Reeds Ferry boat ramp on the Merrimack River on Saturday, to have a look at it. The river was moving very quickly of course, I;m assuming it will slow down as the summer drought happens. Tough to paddle a canoe when the river is racing

James, I have come to find, that with that style of presentation (jigs and Tx rigs), keeping a perfectly semi-tight line is really the key. You need to maintain feel of your bait at every single moment. Line choice, rod and all that stuff does come into play with sensitivity, etc, but you can make the best of what you have, by keeping your line tight, paying attention to rod position, and keeping yourself in the prime HARD hook setting position (shoulders square to where you're fishing, feet in a stable position ready to step back if needed, and able to set the hook over the shoulder of the hand you are reeling with).  I use some very expensive gear, but I promise you, my biggest fish have been caught using my friend's rods, which honestly, are just not as sensitive as mine.

Thanks Shane, been using soft plastics a long time. Not so much of a jig guy but I give it a shot from time to time. Speaking of jigs, I have a lot if them that were made in the 80s, can I still use them or are they banned because of lead?
