YungAngler Posted June 28, 2014 Posted June 28, 2014 There must have been a very recent hatch because there were fry all over the place. I think they were perch, but not sure. I noticed an antennae in a SM belly so they are obviously munching on craws. Just an insane day of fishing for me. My mind was blown and I have been completely believe in the power of the jig, esp in bodies of water known for large fish. I don't think you can go wrong with one tied on. 3 Quote
bobh64 Posted June 28, 2014 Posted June 28, 2014 Bass will spawn all summer if the their inner cycle gets messed up. Finally a day off and what lake do I need to fish. 1 Quote
Mainebass1984 Posted June 29, 2014 Posted June 29, 2014 Fishing the past two evenings has been insanely good. The bass are definitely in post spawn summer time patterns. Yesterday after work my friend and I went fishing at about 4 o'clock and fished until dark. The water temperature had warmed up a bit, it was 76 degrees. The air temperature was around 86 degrees. There was a northwest wind 5-10 mph. It was partly cloudy. The sun felt super intense yesterday afternoon. We launched the boat and went to my first main lake spot. It takes 20-30 minutes to get there with my trolling motor... Once we got there our first 4 casts we caught fish. Nothing good but 2 of the fish were 2 lbs or so. We had our first double of the day there which is always fun. We fished the area around this spot for an hour picking up fish. It is a steep drop into 30 feet of water and weeds. We decided to make a move to the most northern end of the lake. The fishing on the northern end of the lake was insane. We were catching fish what seemed like every other cast. Targeting off shore spots with thick weeds right on the drop off seemed to be the thing to do yesterday. We caught fish on jigs, rubber worms, and a couple fish on frogs. The past couple days downsizing our baits and using lighter line really seems to have done the trick. Caught most of our fish using 8 lb fluorocarbon vanish line throwing 4 inch weightless power worms. It takes such a long time for the bait to sink to anywhere near bottom but it certainly has been getting the job done. Before we switched to the lighter line and bait we were using 12 lb mono and a 6 inch power worm, we weren't getting anywhere near as many bites. We finished the evening with 69 bass in the boat. Most of the fish were in the 1.5-2.5 lb range. We decided to make one of my really good spots our last spot of the day. My friend quickly caught a 3 lb 8ozer. I unfortunately get broken off by a lunker. The first time I have been broken off by a bass in two years... So that is sad. I guess that is the chance you take when you use 8 lb fluorocarbon. Then we double up on a couple 2 lbs. After that we both cast right back to the same spot again. There is very thick weeds there right on the drop in about 8-10 feet of water. We both hook into real nice fish. Playing the fish towards the boat I realize I have a larger bass on. It is kicking my but and I am holding on for dear life, praying my line doesn't break again. My friend is using 10 lb test and he gets his fish to the boat quicker then I did and he is calling for the net. I hand him the net while I am still fighting my fish. He nets his fish its a solid 3 plus pounder. Now my fish is to the boat and it looks much bigger. We net my fish with his still in the net. Now there are two fish in the net. Pretty sweet double. His weighed 3 lbs 6 oz and mine was a pretty good fish and a lunker for this pond at 5 lbs 2 oz. We fished the spot for another 30-45 minutes until we couldn't see any more and then made the long trip back to the launch. We finished the day with 69 bass in the boat. Most of them were in between 1.5 lbs and 2.5 lbs. Our 5 biggest for the day were 5-2, 3-8, 3-6, 3-1 and a 2-14. Pretty awesome evening of fishing. I am going back there again this evening. 5 Quote
Mainebass1984 Posted June 30, 2014 Posted June 30, 2014 Fishing wasn't as good yesterday afternoon. We did land 45 bass from 4 til dark but only one decent fish at 3 lbs 1 oz. I will be back at it this evening. 1 Quote
YungAngler Posted June 30, 2014 Posted June 30, 2014 Leaving for Nashville on Thursday. I'm fishing Center Hill Lake Sunday and Monday. I'm told the fishing will be tough down there, so we'll be heading out super early to beat the heat. Hoping to crush my PB down there. Will post some pics for sure when I return. I hope everyone has a great holiday and has a chance to do some fishing. 1 Quote
bobh64 Posted July 1, 2014 Posted July 1, 2014 Did some fishing Sunday it was tough but was able to locate both smallmouth and largemouth bass. the summer boat traffic on the lakes is heating up also. Has anyone else notice the grass and weeds are late growing this year? Snapped a pole while casting a chatterbait the guy on shore thought it was a gun going off lol. Chatter baits, wacky rigged senkos and floating frogs were the winners Sunday. 1 Quote
Mainebass1984 Posted July 1, 2014 Posted July 1, 2014 Fished yesterday afternoon form 530 til dark. The guy I was fishing with and myself managed to catch 40 largemouth before dark. We caught a few good ones. The hour and a half before dark the bite was red hot. We caught a 3-12 and a 4-3 on consecutive casts. Then right as I was putting my stuff away he makes one last cast as I put the trolling motor on five to blast back to launch. His rod doubles over, figuring he is stuck. The "snag" started fighting back. Got it t the boat and netted her. It was the biggest bass he had caught in years a 5 lb 11 ozer. Not sure if I will begetting out his afternoon. They are predicting some severe thunderstorms this afternoon. Quote

Going Sunday with a buddy , never been , going to be in the area. 2 canoes with trolling motors and 1 kayak. I've fished It's got good smamouth and trout, but it tends to be busy. I know someone that got thier PB smallie there. If you're in that area, you could also go up to Pleasant Pond in Henniker if you're not loving Mt Williams. It's got a good largemouth population, and it's not usually very busy. It's one of my favorite ponds in the area, and perfect for the canoe. If you do go, the back end of the pond is fun frog fishing. Dudley Pond is right there also, on the same road as Pleasant. They are both in Clarks with good directions, but let me know if you need any info. Quote
Nashua Nev Posted July 2, 2014 Posted July 2, 2014 Thank You. perfect info. Was just hoping i did not hear. dont waste your time from 3 different people. Will be there Sunday about 4:30 am till 9am. then its family stuff. Quote

Going Sunday with a buddy , never been , going to be in the area. 2 canoes with trolling motors and 1 kayak. If you get there really early then it's worth it I think. Got there around 7:30 the other day with a friend of mine. There was a thick fog covering the lake and the fish were biting pretty well. We both boated over a dozen smallies within about 2 hours. Biggest was 2lb 14 oz. Quote

I heard it was tough there also. There was 6 lber weighed in though. My partner and I will be trying to fish all the remaining tourneys. We are in 3rd and we want to move up the standings. Why oh Why would you go fun fish Moose Pond ? Plenty of other places to catch bigger and better fish. Like Kezar lake for example. Always can get a few 3 plus pounders out of there. 1 Quote

Super User Shane J Posted July 4, 2014 Super User Posted July 4, 2014 That's the attitude, Bob. I caught my NH PB out of a place that everyone swears the biggest fish in the place is 3lbs. Yeah right, except the 9 pounder I caught there! 1 Quote
Beverly Bassman Posted July 4, 2014 Posted July 4, 2014 Most of the research shows there are larger fish in most bodies of water. They can be very solitary and very wary of artificial lures. That's probably how they got so big. Some anglers seem to gave the skills, patience and the knack to find them and catch them. I have not really been one of them in the past. If I'm not catching anything, I get bored after an hour or so, and I start using drop shot or something to catch a few fish. I usually only have 2 or 3 hours on the water, so I don't spend it searching for the one or two lunkers in there. But in most cases, they are in there. I admire they guys who get them. I am starting to target bigger fish lately. On one highly pressured lake I know, there are big fish, but it's hard to get them to bite. For years, I have assumed that once the spawn is over, the bigger fish are on the deep edge of the weed lines or out on deep water structure. I have fished that way for years on this lake with poor results. After some reading on targeting bigger fish, I tried the opposite strategy. I fished very tight to bushes, dock pillings, rocks and other cover that was right against the shore. In two hours last week, I caught a number of fish in the 3 pound range in water I have been ignoring for years. In some cases, I went through a grass/pad field with a push pole and fished in a foot of water to some shoreline bushes. I would have never thought a 3 pounder would be there but it was. Have you guys had similar experiences? 1 Quote

Some of my biggest fish have been caught in tight to the shore no matter what season 6lb+ I have found the big ones have a pattern and they are more like us in wanting something different to eat. lately when I am fishing I have turned off my electronics and that has increased my catch size many times more then with it on that includes my radio. Also the art of skipping baits under docks and low trees pays off very well. gitzits texas rigged 5 inch worms and wacky rigged worms can be skipped almost 20 feet in some situations (docks pontoon boats, culverts any low blueberry bushes because they are blooming up and yes bass will eat the berries) Quote
bgwin Posted July 4, 2014 Posted July 4, 2014 Hey guys, just moved to the area and went out on Baboosic Lake with no luck. Any tips for lure choice just to get some fish in the boat? Quote
bobh64 Posted July 4, 2014 Posted July 4, 2014 Welcome to the group bgwin, I personally have never fished Baboosic but I know several people on here will have answers for you soon. Were you shore fishing in a boat/canoe ? Quote

I can cast very low to the water with my baitcasters but I can't really skip baits with them very well. Quote
bobh64 Posted July 4, 2014 Posted July 4, 2014 Bob, Do you use a spinning reel when skipping those baits? I can cast very low to the water with my baitcasters but I can't really skip baits with them very well. my favorite set up is a falcon 6 1/2 medium heavy with a procyon spinning reel I am using a yo-zori 10lb hybrid line I know people don't like that stuff but it is really tough for those tight spots. the falcon rod I am using is almost 20 yrs old but it still hauls out the big boys. the people i fish with are always amazed at how it can be done. I'm sure different spinning set ups will work but this is what I grab every time I have to skip something. Quote
