Going down to CT tonight coming back Sunday morning... Hopefully I'll be able to get some fishing in at my favorite bass river the Housatonic. It is loaded with 2lbs smallies and is crazy fun when the bite is on, which it usually is, catching a decent smallie thrown in with the occasional trout nearly every cast some reaching over 20"... My girlfriend will be on camera duty with the GoPro LOL the scenery is pretty remarkable down there! I'll write up a report tomorrow night with some photos, everyone have a great weekend!

There are some giants in there ! My favorite lake to fish. I am sure you will get em !!

We fished northwest cove and lower bay caught a bunch of bass between 2-5 lbs but I think there might be a pickerel problem, between myself and my fishing buddy we caught close to 6 dozen pickerel in the 8 hrs we were on the lake. all bass were caught in the northwest cove the lower bay was a bust for us. The bass 5lbs+ were visibly cruising and very skittish. Next time will be for middle and upper bay at Kezar.

After a late night last night I decided to sleep in just get u and go fishing when ever I woke up. I arrived at the boat launch at 8 am. The parking lot was full. there were 14 boats already launched. I almost decided to go somewhere else but decided to go for it anyway, I was already there. I launched my boat and just started fishing. It certainly was a slow start. I assumed the northeast wind had something to do with the poor fishing. I just kept plugging along catching a fish every now and then but nothing of any size. I spoke with a couple of guys fishing in there boats and they said it had been a really slow morning. Then the wind picked up pretty good. It stared blowing 10-15 mph out of the northeast. It started getting a bit choppy out on the water. A few boats left once the wind had kicked up, then it began to rain. Most people decided to call it a day. I elected to stay. After an hour or so the wind calmed down significantly and the rain stopped. A front had just passed and the bass were biting ! The afternoon bite was insanely good. I had the place to myself for the most part. Sometimes it pays to tough it out and stay with it.  I caught 27 largemouth and 1 smallmouth for the day, as well as a bunch of pickerel.

Lunker fof the day. 6 lbs 0 oz

Got a 4-1 and 5 between 3-4 lbs as well but didn't take any pics of them.

It was an amazing way to end an incredible month for me, 19 bass over 5 lbs for the month. Hopefully June will be just as awesome !

I had to help my uncle set up a dock at his camp on Crescent Lake in Ackworth which meant an opportunity to go fishing. I only fished for an hour and a half or so but I landed 3 smallies, 2 largemouth and a pickerel. Biggest was about 2 lbs.

Hit my favorite Lake today. My best fishing day period. Started with what seemed like  15 pickere Before hooking with a few small bass. Then finished with a bang. Hooked up with my personal best largemouth. 4lbs 7oz. Then a few cast later hit a 3lb 1oz largemouth. Was a great 6 hrs spent on the lake.

Hello everyone! New here, randomly came across this while Googling some new ponds/lakes to fish. Seeing some nice fish here, fished in NH most my life. No boat, so I'm an avid shore fisherman which sucks most of the time so always welcomed to great shore fishing hints!

Welcome to the site. A lot of people here in the same boat as you. No pun intended. Great people with tons of pointers and places to fish from shore. Enjoy the site.

Gonna go out today when my buddy gets out of work. Looking to go towards Francestown New Boston maybe a little further that way. Looking for some interesting places to try any suggestions. Worse comes to worse I will go back to where I caught my 5lber.

Hi, and welcome to the site. I know how you feel with the shore only fishing. I'm in the same boat (no pun intended). I have had great luck fishing from shore. My best advice would be to walk around the perimeter of any lake/pond you fish if possible. That way you can find the hot spots. Also try fishing under bridges where it can be deep and dark. I have also had great luck and caught some big bass fishing where a river/brook come into a lake/pond. Hope this helps.

Welcome! I also don't own a boat so I do plenty of shore fishing.  Luckily I have friends that have boats.  Met one on here in this forum.

Lost my 2 biggest fish this season on a Rage Blade.  I hate guessing weight, but they were both big girls that I'm sure would have come close to the 5lb mark.  Both from buddy's dock on his lake house in southern Maine, and they both threw the hook in mid air in front of a crew of my friends.  I recently switched to a right handed retrieve on my baitcaster.  I'm suffering from some tendonitis issues in my right wrist, that are only getting worse so I'm fully committed to reeling with my right hand and jigging with my left.  I'm assuming I didn't properly set the hook.  Maine seems to be where it's at this Spring.  In addition to seeing "Maine's" posts on the board this season, I witnessed a bunch of 4 pounders and two 5's caught this weekend.  Never have I seen that many bass, that size, in a weekend, on a New England lake.

Been so busy lately haven't been on for a while, looks like everyone is getting on some fish.  Congrats Maine on the may competition and Nev you caught some nice fat ones.  Welcome to the site rippinlips.  So far this year haven't been able to do much serious fishing, but have been able to fish some with my kids.  Couple of weekends ago my second to youngest got his first bass on an artificial bait, my youngest learned how to kayak and my second oldest got her second biggest LM, a fat 15 1/2 incher.  While I would like to get some serious fishing in, fishing with them (while i dont get to fish much) is still great, some great memories for them and me.  Did get to go to a small local pond yesterday for about an hour and a half, caught 8 LM biggest was only 17", water temps are warming up quick, cant wait to get on some bigger water.  Tight lines everyone and hope we all have some nice ones this month

Well, tried 3 new places this morning when I got out of work. Don't know if it's because it's still early, the lakes, or time but man it was slow. One small 9" bass (but finally first one, monkey off my back) on my 4" Senko, but nothing else! Went to Dunbarton to Kimball Pond, then Long Pond, then Gorham pond. Kimball is beautiful and looks to be an amazing pond to be out there at 5am on a small boat (hint hint;) ) plenty of places for me to fish from shore (with a little walking) missed a couple hits, and only that one small bass. Definitely open to suggestions to for great shore fishing! I have some spots I hit up, trying to find new ones/on way home from work in Manch. If you need to PM me that's fine so you won't be a spot burner (since people on Ice Shanty get all touchy...I never keep bass).

Anyways here's a picture of one of the coolest things I've seen in years nature-wise earlier this week while fishing in Hopkinton. No, I didn't stop him from eating, just a quick pose for a picture. Don't know if you can tell from this picture, but that male Bull Frog is pretty decent in size, and that Northern Water Snake is pushing 4 feet long.

Welcome to the forums. My 2 cents if you don't mind using live bait, would be to get some shiners, or even live perch. Then I would free line fish them with just a single hook and cast out as far as possible. We do this off my dock at my camp when we don't feel like going on the boat and it does produce. My uncle one time caught a 6.5 lber off the dock doing this. You just let the shiner do it's thing and it'll produce I gurantee.

Shiner isn't a bad idea, however using perch is illegal. Can't use fish with a spiny dorsal fin if I remember correctly?

Yeah, I think live perch, bluegill, and crappie are illegal to use as bait in NH
