Mainebass1984 Posted May 18, 2014 Posted May 18, 2014 I got out fishing after work yesterday for about 4 hours. It was my first time fishing the pond we went to. The water temperature was surprisingly very warm, 67 degrees. We saw a lot of empty beds but a couple fish still were on them. We caught a lot of pickerel. We didn't get a bass bite for over an hour to start of our outing. Once we figured them out then we started catching a couple. I ended up catching 5 largemouth and my friend caught 3. Between the two of us we caught 15 pickerel. All of the bass were between 2 lbs and 2 3/4 lbs except for one good one I caught on a jig. It was well worth making the drive after work to catch a few bass on a beautiful may afternoon. The good one. Measured about 20.5 inches, its tail was pretty beat up. It weighed in at 5 lbs 3 oz. My biggest bass so far in Vermont this year. 7 Quote

NEjitterbugger Posted May 18, 2014 Posted May 18, 2014 Went out for some smallmouth today and we got what we wanted! The first fish I hooked up with was without a doubt my biggest smallie... I thought I was on the bottom until I felt her head shake, then she came to the surface jumped, dove and snapped my line.... It was pretty depressing but exciting at the same time LOL. After that we got on them pretty good starting with a 2lbs 10 oz on a KVD sexy shad squarebill... The next fish was the lunker of the day a 2lbs 15oz on a 3/4 football head with a gambler little EZ swimbait as a trailer... (Cut off all my hair, not the reason I'm wearing hood lol) Then I stuck another good one at 2lbs 13oz a storm arashi squarebill This fish had probably just spawned 2lbs 0oz and looked pretty beat up and skinny... Then another 2-10 and 2-6 Then I finished of the day with another 2-8 We caught two under two pounds the entire day... Fun day! 9 Quote
bobh64 Posted May 19, 2014 Posted May 19, 2014 Did a get together one fish tourny Sunday and it was fun to watch several fish being brought in and there was no more then a couple ounces separating the winning lunker from waht was shown by people showing their lunkers, everyone had to take turns with the balance beam. lots of 2-3 pound fish being caught but the big ones are hiding. clr9933 Posted May 19, 2014 Posted May 19, 2014 Got a few smallmouth this weekend. Like last week, I didn't get a bite until the wind picked up and then they started hitting my jerkbait. I didn't get any big ones, but even with the small ones it's awesome when they knock slack in your line or load your rod up when they hit. Had a couple treble hooks get straightened out... Smallmouth rock. Got one largemouth on a jig, watched it swim right out of the roots of a stump and take it. Way to go everyone, happy bassin'. 2 Quote
MikeOGNR Posted May 19, 2014 Posted May 19, 2014 Was out on Northwood all weekend. Had the biggest bass of my life get pf just near the boat he was easily 6lb+ and of course Shane he was on your famous Rage Craw!!!! Haha. Anyways we ended up strangely getting on a school of Black Crappies or Calico Bass as my Uncle calls them. This happened to be the biggest one he caught it on a Rapala Jerkbait. 3 Quote

I enjoyed it but wouldn't recommend fishing it without some sort of GPS tracking easy to get yourself turned around on there. Quote

Truer things have never been said. I cant even count the number of times ive crawled through a narrow outlet in the back of a cove with my trolling motor, only to have it open up into a backwater with lots of inlets feeding it. That place is huge. I have a hard time wanting to fish places that arent named Lake Arrowhead due to its big fish looking habitat. 50 fish is amazing also. For me its usually nothing or 10 decent fish. Never near 50 and ive been fishing it for almost 13 years now. Way to go! Quote

Yep, up until noon time we only had 8 fish on texas rigged senkos and jigs right into the stumps, then the sky got dark and the wind started to blow and the guy I was with said we're making a big move, when we got to where we were going he tied on a spinnerbait and hooked up on the 3rd cast and 2 more quickly followed, he said "tie on a spinner bait we're in for a 40 fish afternoon" and he was right, the harder the wind blew the better the fishing got. I've had days like that on Winni with spinnerbaits for smallies, fishing the wind blown flats. What's funny is I couldn't find the place again by myself if you paid me, when we we're leaving he said which way is out I pointed to the way I thought, he laughed and headed the opposite way. 3 Quote

Thanks Maine, right above Little Ossipee. Be very careful on there very shallow with hundreds of coves, thousands of stumps, dead falls and of course millfoil. Quote

je1946 Posted May 21, 2014 Posted May 21, 2014 Did you drive all the way up from Mass to fish Arrowhead? Yes I did, only about 95 miles I make a day of it. I've driven to Auburn, Thompson, Little Sebago. Any further than that and I'll stay over night fish the nxt day and come home. I'm retired, so no work committments. Quote
jaystraw Posted May 21, 2014 Posted May 21, 2014 Hey, we had some luck in Southern NH today! Here are the pics; 3 lb 10 oz smallie 4lb 6 oz smallie And my buddy caught another 4lb smallie that I do not have a picture of because we wanted to get her back in the water ASAP. These were just the biggest fish, but I also caught another 3+ LMB and a ton of smallies. What a great day. 6 Quote

I spend most of my season pre fishing tournaments so there is no surprise trips for me, all business. I wish I wasn't addicted to tournament fishing but I am. Never done drugs, don't drink or smoke, but I imagine this is what it is like to have an addiction, to a lesser degree of course. Quote
