Mainebass1984 Posted April 21, 2014 Posted April 21, 2014 I managed to find 3 hours of fishing time today in between the family Easter plans. It was pretty warm out today. I fished a small pond that was half ice yesterday. Surprisingly the water temperature was 48 degrees. The water is super clear on this small pond and the bass were really spooky. They would see my jig and spook. After fishing my jig for two hours and nothing I switched tactics. I started fishing a senko and crankbait. I caught a 2 lber and a 2.5 lber pretty quickly on a senko. Just before I had to leave I caught a 3 lb 9 oz largemouth on a crankbait for a total of 3 bass today.I will be on the water again tomorrow fishing moose pond if we can launch the boat. 4 Quote
YungAngler Posted April 21, 2014 Posted April 21, 2014 I hit a lake small lake in Mass near my parents house. I was throwing cranks all over trying to locate some bass with no luck. Caught a bunch of rainbows - this one being the nicest. 2 Quote
NEjitterbugger Posted April 21, 2014 Posted April 21, 2014 Went out this morning and caught a 2lber on a chatter bait... 3 Quote
NH Fisher Posted April 21, 2014 Posted April 21, 2014 Did a couple hours today. It was more windy than forcasted, so I didn't wanna stay out too long. I did get on some fish, though, just no big ones. 6 total, 3 on cranks, 3 on a jig/D.B. Craw. None bigger than 2.5lbs, though, but considering this place iced out yesterday, and the warmest water I found was 43 degrees, I'll take it. Got to try out some new equipment, and it felt good to be back on the open water. Hope some of you guys got out and hooked a few, too! Shane, it's Marc, Is that my favorite little lake in Pittsfield? The one I've ran into you a few time at? If not do you know if the ice is gone. I'm hopping to hit it on Saturday. Quote
Super User Shane J Posted April 21, 2014 Super User Posted April 21, 2014 Hey, Marc, yes it is, and I'll see you out there Saturday, bud! Quote
checkyoursix Posted April 22, 2014 Posted April 22, 2014 I'm glad to see people have started catching fish!!!! I've had great luck and FYI the crankbait bite is on! My biggest fish so far this season (a 2lber and a 3lber) jigging a craw in 1 fow. 2 Quote
MikeOGNR Posted April 22, 2014 Posted April 22, 2014 Out on Northwood Lake right now fishing. No luck yet on the jig, but I'm still going strong saw a million yellow perch on this flat that I'm fishing near deep water. Hopefully the hogs aren't to far behind them 1 Quote
MikeOGNR Posted April 22, 2014 Posted April 22, 2014 We'll taking a break for a little while got a hit on the jig but didn't land it. Tried all the areas I know couldn't get any to bite at all. Must still be to early for the season but I tried a lot of diffrent presentations with the jig. It is quite the feel bait felt everything on the bottom of the spots. Might go back out in a few hours to try again Quote
NEjitterbugger Posted April 22, 2014 Posted April 22, 2014 I've been seeing more and more bluegill in the shallows and some perch moving around a little, good sign... 1 Quote
nhbassin Posted April 22, 2014 Posted April 22, 2014 Ive got my first tournament this Sunday on Powder Mill Pond. Anyone know how the water level is looking there? Quote
Super User Shane J Posted April 22, 2014 Super User Posted April 22, 2014 Id expect it to be low. Everywhere has low water at the moment. Quote
jaystraw Posted April 22, 2014 Posted April 22, 2014 Ive got my first tournament this Sunday on Powder Mill Pond. Anyone know how the water level is looking there? I live just down the street and the water level is on the high side. The river is running high, so the main lake is high. I'm fairly sure you'll make it under the RR bridge fine. Although, high water for Powder Mil is 3.5 feet lol. Quote
bobh64 Posted April 22, 2014 Posted April 22, 2014 Some one just caught a 13lb-11oz large mouth from the shore on Tennessee's Chickamauga Lake. Story on the B.A.S.S. page, sweet catch! Quote
Mainebass1984 Posted April 23, 2014 Posted April 23, 2014 Is anyone fishing the Moose Pond tourney this Sunday ? Quote

MikeOGNR Posted April 23, 2014 Posted April 23, 2014 Can anyone give me some recommendations for a couple of crank baits that I could add to my arsenal? I was looking to at least get 4-5 different ones. Quote

clr9933 Posted April 23, 2014 Posted April 23, 2014 I hear about how great the Lucky Craft Pointer 100 is all the time. I know mikeognr, you said you were looking for cranks, but it's a good time of year for the pointer 100 and if you're gonna buy some... you might as well buy some more. I'd be interested to know how it works for ya. Quote
jaystraw Posted April 24, 2014 Posted April 24, 2014 I love the Pointer 95 and 100. The Slender Pointer is a real killer in the early spring. The Pointer 95 is silent for those days when you don't want the rattle. I'm also a fan of the Live Pointer. Quote

Mainebass1984 Posted April 24, 2014 Posted April 24, 2014 I just saw the 2014 Top 100 bass lakes list. This list surprises me every year. I think it is kind of a joke personally, but thats my opinion. A few lakes in Maine made the list. I was really surprised to see Moosehead Lake ranked in the top 100.. That is crazy. Cobbeesocontee made the list again which doesn't surprise me. China lake was ranked pretty high and it should be. For the first time Kezar Lake wasn't ranked in the top 100, it is every bit as good as China, if not better. Squam and Winnipausaukee made the list too. Lake Champlain and Memphramagog were on the list for Vermont. Its good to see some New England waters make the list but, I think the best waters weren't listed. I am still surprised by Moosehead Lake making the top 100. 1 Quote
clr9933 Posted April 24, 2014 Posted April 24, 2014 I'm not too familiar with Maine waters, but I agree 100% that it is great to see some northeast lakes on the list. Quote
