Man isn't that the truth.  Yes, this guy Rep Davis of Brownville sure does sound like a bit of a strange duck, but just goes to show you the anti fishing and hunting folks will use whatever weapons they can.  MaineBass, thanks for the update and info, and I know most of the sportsmen and women usually police themselves pretty gd.

When I was a tournament director for my bass club we had to go to Lewiston ME to do the lake pics for our tournaments there was a anti hunting/fishing group there. I asked them if a deer or a child were on the road in front of you which one were you going to hit with your car they would not answer me!

Well, work transferred me closer to home. Now I can bring my boat to work and go straight to fishing when I get out at 1 in the afternoons :) It's killing me having to wait and hearing about you guys fishing already.

Swains is usually my first choice to run the big motor on it's small so if something happens I can use my trolling motor to get back to the ramp, I know a couple drop offs that stage bass when the water hits the 50's

There is finally a good strip of open water on Champlain out in front of Burlington. I could almost watch the ice melting today... It was great. I know this doesn't mean much for most of you but maybe you can share my excitement? Going to try a few spots from shore tomorrow on the big lake as well as drive around to check the status of a few smaller lakes/ponds. Fingers are crossed.

My buddy and i found a few little guys this morning.   We fished a place that is completely run over with weeds and pads and almost not fishable once the green starts to grow.   a few more days of some sun is all we need down in this end of the state.  realy really tough to fish this place once things start growing.   not fishable from shore.  This is the first time we fish it.

The bait fish are really starting to run around in the shallows.

Anyone planning on fishing the Northeast Bassmasters Mousam ME open? I just talk to Shawn Hooper the club president and he feels confident ice out on Mousam is expected to be Tuesday so it won't hurt the open happening on the 20th Sadly I won't be able to make it because of work. Moose the following week he is having someone keep a eye on it.

Please tell me someone got out on this beautiful weekend and caught some fish!! I need to live through you that did as my boat is still covered up. On a plus side for me I sold my little row boat. To hear the guy say its perfect to take his little boy out fishing just made my day!

I was thinking about doing it. Last weekend they were still icefishing Mousam. I will probably pass on that one.

The southern end of Moose Pond is opening up pretty good. I will be fishing it Saturday.

Got to fish a pond in Epping today. Didn't get a bite on my JB or FB jig with a Rage craw. But my father-in-law got 3 fish on a wacky rigged senko. It seems every time we go out he out catches me on that rig... I'm starting to wonder why the heck I can't catch a thing on a jig. Any tips? I really don't want to fish senko's they bore the heck out of me!

Well, without seeing you work it, knowing the location, or having any info on where the bass and bait were, it's really gonna be impossible to help much. Sounds like the fish you guys did find, were eating slow falling, smaller presentations. In that case, you could have tried a couple things. First, I'd have put a Craw on a 1/4oz Rage Rig, and caught some of the same fish he was catching. If those fish were dinks, I would have moved. Also, I'm thinking that if they wanted to eat something on the fall, I could have bulked up the trailer, dropped down in jig weight, and worked it slower. You gotta remember, yesterday was post-front, and our water is still freezing cold. I would have been fishing a jig yesterday, too, even if Johny Wonderpants was catching dink after dink on a Senko. I do fish for bigger fish, not just any fish. I haven't fished a Senko in 5 years, and I think I do okay. I guess it all depends on what your goal was for the day. If you woulda been happy just catching a fish, I suppose fishing a Senko woulda been better than whackin it all day. If you were trying to catch a better fish, then you did the right thing. Now you just gotta get more water time to hone in your skills as a jig guy.

X2 ^. Not to many places on epping that I can think of anyway that I would fish a jig with. The smaller fish don't typically take a larger jig. Sure occasionally they do but from my experience it's rare. Where were you fishing? Try just the rage craw like Shane said. You might be surprised. When the water warms up a bit the jig bite will be better.

I love the light jig/ bulky trailer combo this time of year. I used to use the rage baby craws with a strike king bitsy bug jig but have switched to the regular size Craws almost 100% of the time now. The bigger craw definitely slows it down a lot. As for what can be done to get comfortable with fishing a jig... I really think that time spent fishing it is the most important part. I read an article about a pro who knew crank baits were an essential part of his tackle box but just wasn't comfortable throwing them; he decided to spend a years worth of "fun fishing" time only using crank baits in whatever his conditions presented him with. Now he's less hesitant to use the crankin' rod when tournament fishing; says he feels like he has added a new lure to his arsenal. Once you get some fish on a jig, and get confidence in it, you may not put it down!
