lonewolf89 Posted April 10, 2014 Posted April 10, 2014 Thanks for the welcome guys, glad to find this site and hope to learn some things. Definitely seems to be a good group of guys and I will read through the whole thread may take me a while. Just an update for the couple of places I have stopped to check, Lake Potanipo only open water right at the dam only about 100 yards out and probably 200 yards wide the rest is ice and Melendy pond is about half open water. I checked those today haven't had a chance to drive anywhere else. SmalljawNH Posted April 10, 2014 Posted April 10, 2014 Stevens Pond in Manchester should be open in the next few days and Canobee is open. I fished the Bow power plant and the water was pretty swift last weekend. 2.5 mph current according the GPS. Tough bite with no warm water. Quote
MainelyBASS Posted April 10, 2014 Posted April 10, 2014 Sorry for the rookie question, but......I see Maine guys talking on this NH forum, is there a Maine forum? I almost wet myself when deaknh03 said he was in Windham and there was open water, only to find out that he is in Windham, NH? Joke is on me seeings I am in the NH thread. 3 Quote

Joke is on me seeings I am in the NH thread.  There are a lot of guys on this thread that are from all around New England. Its a good group of guys. I tried starting a Maine thread last year but, it seems there aren't many Maine fisherman on here. Start up a Maine thread if you like, maybe there is a few more Maine guys on here then last year. I will follow a Maine thread for sure.  Open water around Windham, ME ? Its going to be a couple weeks maybe a little less. Cobb stream is the only place you can launch a boat in Maine that I know of right now. Anyone else know of any ? You can also check out the bragging right competition we had for the area last year, its pretty fun, you should try it. 1 Quote
MainelyBASS Posted April 10, 2014 Posted April 10, 2014 There is a pond in Sanford that is open and can hold large or small boats. It's very small but it's fishable. Quote
Bassintheweeds Posted April 10, 2014 Posted April 10, 2014 My father stores Bass boats from all over the state at his job so im sure I will hear when what opens with people wanting their boats. I will post at the first sniff of anything (for maine mostly). Â Update on the ponds that went out yesterday. Spent nearly all afternoon there but ended up with the skunk. But it felt incredible just to cast. Â which pond is open in sanford? Quote
Super User Shane J Posted April 10, 2014 Super User Posted April 10, 2014 We use this thread for all of New England. S. NH just happens to be where most of us live, so this one kinda stayed alive. But yeah, Mainebass is right, you should join us in our monthly bragging rights competition. Goes by length, biggest 5 every month. Sometimes I throw some stuff around for the winners. Anyway, you Maine guys are gonna have to show me around. I'm getting my Maine license here shortly, because my brother in law lives in Buxton, and we're gonna do some fishing up there this year. 2 Quote
Super User Shane J Posted April 10, 2014 Super User Posted April 10, 2014 Actually, I'm spending the weekend up there, and we're gonna do some driving around, see what's going on with the ice, and maybe find some open water. If we do, I'll be getting that permit sooner than later! 1 Quote
Bassintheweeds Posted April 10, 2014 Posted April 10, 2014 I live right on the buxton border... Gosh this whole new england scene is such a small world compared to out west  Will you have a boat? some places that may be out are all south lakes like Arrowhead and its surrounding lakes, saco river (there is a lake in dayton ,i would just shore fish this time of year because Ice going down stream wouldn't be fun to hit.) I will be checking them this weekend no idea on their current state. But you could without find a place to cast on the river, good smallies and some browns.  I also need some help with Mousam lake, just a few questions not looking for any secrets. Mostly if you can get into goose pond on the north end in a bass boat. But also a few questions on bottom type and water, One of the lakes that managed to escape tournaments from my club for a few years. Now its on both my Junior and adult schedule. Also if the fish have a preference on being shallow or deep. Quote

I live 5 minutes away from Mousam and fish it multiple times a week and fish 2 tournaments on it every year. As far as goose pond goes, its a no if you have a big fiberglass rig. At the most there is a foot and a half of water in the culvert, but most of the time its less than a foot. Its about 7 1/2 feet wide and my boat has a 9ft beam. I used to run a tracker pro team with a 50 horse that was 5 ft wide and getting into Goose was always worth it. Funny story about "getting into Goose" About 4 years ago there was an open with 24 boats, 1 of which was a jon boat with a 9.9 Merc and it had a cooler for a livewell. He spanked us all. Clearly he was able to get up in the shallows and catch the big spawning females. Let me know if you wanna go out on Mousam id be glad to show you some spots. 2 Quote
Super User Shane J Posted April 10, 2014 Super User Posted April 10, 2014 No, no boat this weekend. Quote
Super User Shane J Posted April 10, 2014 Super User Posted April 10, 2014 Sounds like a good place for the jon boat to me! My brother in law has been fishing the area since he was a kid, and has a few 9's and one over 10 to his credit from the area. Quote
NEjitterbugger Posted April 10, 2014 Posted April 10, 2014 I was just looking at the weather on my phone and saw that it's supposed to be 75 on Monday! Can't wait for May to get the competition up and running again! 5 Quote
Tlaz Posted April 10, 2014 Posted April 10, 2014 I'm in Windham, I know of 3 lakes in my area that re ice free, probably more but I haven't driven around. Can you name them? Is Canobie open yet? Big Island? Quote
mhtranger Posted April 10, 2014 Posted April 10, 2014 Can you name them? Is Canobie open yet? Big Island? Canobie is open when I drove by yesterday. Quote

Our ranger definitely wouldn't fit, 518vx w/twin talons and a 200 etec lol. Â I think i may have known the guy in the jon boat based on some of the stories ive heard. Â what club do you fish out of? Funny enough i fish out of mainely bass. Â Canobie is open when I drove by yesterday. Obi wan? Quote
Super User deaknh03 Posted April 10, 2014 Super User Posted April 10, 2014 Can you name them? Is Canobie open yet? Big Island? Canobie has been open for a week or so, Cobbetts is open, Arlington is open, I would say big Island is probably open as well. 1 Quote
