NEjitterbugger Posted March 24, 2014 Posted March 24, 2014 I'm planning on just officially starting it in May like Shane said. Even if there are some places open in April I don't think a competition for that month would get that much action... 2 Quote
Spyder Bass Posted March 24, 2014 Posted March 24, 2014 i agree to start in may. im hoping to be able to get to my boat some time in april at this rate let alone get it in the water Quote

Mike2841 Posted March 24, 2014 Posted March 24, 2014 Supposed to get 6-12" of snow on Wednesday down here in Boston... Quote
Spyder Bass Posted March 24, 2014 Posted March 24, 2014 there only calling for a few inches around here. i hope nothing Quote
Nashua Nev Posted March 24, 2014 Posted March 24, 2014 wind was whipping this morning, did not try to put the jon boat in. next chance for me will be next sat/sun i think. maybe possibly wed afternoon depending on the weather. Looks like most of the Merrimack river is open all the way thru past Concord? I was driving and did not get a good look. Is the river soft all the way up to the exit 17 big bridge ? Quote
Super User Shane J Posted March 25, 2014 Super User Posted March 25, 2014 Yeah, Nev, it should be. When I was out there yesterday, the big icebergs were floating down, a sure sign that up river has begun breaking up. Oh, and by the way, do not get in the way of those! had a couple of them almost take my boat down last year, luckily, I got pushed to the side of the river, and the ice went under and passed before capsizing me. That woulda sucked! Some of that ice is as heavy as a bus. You cannot just push them out of your way, and they are dangerous. The trout guys will be all up and down the river in a few days, and it should be ice free by then. 1 Quote
Nashua Nev Posted March 25, 2014 Posted March 25, 2014 Trout season April 25th i believe. I hope to have caught and released many bass by then. Quote
DevilDoc Posted March 25, 2014 Posted March 25, 2014 Heat wave Friday! Gonna at least get a line in the water. Quote
Super User Shane J Posted March 25, 2014 Super User Posted March 25, 2014 Yeah, I should be able to do something this weekend, too. Quote
MikeOGNR Posted March 25, 2014 Posted March 25, 2014 I hope to catch some hogs in April. Gotta look into the Nashua River more to find out where these fish will be haha hopefully find some good spots and beat my PB. Can't wait to use these Rage Craws 1 Quote
Spyder Bass Posted March 25, 2014 Posted March 25, 2014 anyone that has fished deering resovoir with any tips. Quote
Fly_Fisherman Posted March 26, 2014 Posted March 26, 2014 Just a head up, you can legally fish any river for trout (or bass if you're lucky) beginning January 1st. I'm getting desperate so I may try some of my trout spots on the Contoocook soon to see if anything is willing to bite. Quote
clr9933 Posted March 26, 2014 Posted March 26, 2014 Spent about 40 minutes driving along the nearest river to me today (currently in Burlington, VT). I was hoping to fish, but realistically I was just looking for areas that seemed like they might be open soon. I wasn't able to find anywhere to actually cast but there were some spots that looked like they'd break loose real soon. It was partially exciting to see how close we are to open water and partially just torture, it made my "bass itch" worse, that's for sure! 3 Quote
NEjitterbugger Posted March 26, 2014 Posted March 26, 2014 I know for a fact that I'm getting a lot better every year and becoming more and more obsessed with it every year! I know this is going to be a year of some absolute HAWGS and the excitement and anticipation is killing me! Bass fishing is my life, I really want to pursue a career within the bass fishing world in one way or another. Whether it be as a professional angler, owner of a company, or someone who is involved with marketing for these companies, I want my job to be intertwined with bass fishing. I plan on going to school for business or something in that nature. I wanna make it happen... I know it's going to take a lot of work but I want it SO BAD! 3 Quote

I heard the north end of St. Albans Bay has some open water under the bridge where the brook flows in. 1 Quote
clr9933 Posted March 26, 2014 Posted March 26, 2014 That is good news Mainebass. My first club tourney was April 28th last year out of St. Albans... Hopefully some rain will help open things up quick. Quote

SmalljawNH Posted March 27, 2014 Posted March 27, 2014 anyone that has fished deering resovoir with any tips. I fished it in the fall and found smallmouth on sharp breaks next to two deep holes. I caught them on a drop shot on 30 f.o.w. That was before the winter draw down. I never fished it in the spring but plan to this year. I'm going to cruise around the lake looking for potential spawning areas near deep water. Unless I have electronics, I'll target the areas that look the best and cover as much water as possible. I'll do this hoping to locate them and build on that clue. The north end looked to have a really soft mud bottom but the islands in the central portion of the lake had some sand and gravel. I may start looking there during the pre-spawn and spawn. Hopefully I will have electronics to eliminate some water. Sometimes you just have to go fishing. 1 Quote
Spyder Bass Posted March 27, 2014 Posted March 27, 2014 yea i was thinking the small mouth would be out in the first part of the resovoir on the east side in the 20 to 30 foot mark. i went once last year to just cruise around with my electronics and check it out. i saw a lot of potential so im going to hit it hard this year i think seems its only like 10 mins max from my house. nhbassin Posted March 27, 2014 Posted March 27, 2014 I dont know if the forage has changed at Deering Res, but when I used to ice fish there 12+ years ago, nearly every big smallmouth I caught was a short ways off the big island with no houses on it, and many of them spit up craw fish once we got them through the ice. Let us know if you guys have any luck there. 1 Quote
