Anyone got any recommendations for a spinning reel for it for under 80 bucks? Looking to put about 30-40lb braid on it for a Jig Setup and my Heavy Spinner baits Quote

I would go with a pro-qualifer reel from the pro shop if you are looking for an affordable/quality reel. jsc4324 Posted February 12, 2014 Posted February 12, 2014 Go to walmart if there's one near you. I was just at my local one and they had a abu garcia vendetta casting rod on clearance for $29. In my opinion better option than the ugly stick. I think it was a medium action but not sure. I have one that I use for crankbaits and like it a lot even more for that price. I have a set of older pq reels that I would let go for cheap money if your interested and looking to see if you like casing reels. Pm me if your interested. 2 Quote
MikeOGNR Posted February 12, 2014 Posted February 12, 2014 Purchased the BPS Pro Qualifier and a Med/Hev 7'0 Ugly Stick Casting rod total cost was about 120 bucks. Picking up some Rage Craws and some Stanley Jigs next week. Can't wait for the new season gonna have a whole new approach on things going for the Hog this year gotta beat my PB going for the 8lber this year. Also gonna be focusing on my Spinner bait skills along with my Jig skills this season to master them. Quote

Jigs- upgrade trailer size, rattles are preferable at night (If you are texas rigging use larger plastics) . Topwater- frogs, poppers, prob baits, chatter baits, wake baits, etc. My favorites at night are topwater baits and jigs! They'll definitely do the trick! 1 Quote
Mainebass1984 Posted February 17, 2014 Posted February 17, 2014 I like night fishing quite a bit. Usually no wind, no power boaters or jet skies, and you usually have the whole lake to yourself. As NEjitterbug suggested a spinnerbait with a big Colorado blade works well. My favorite technique though is finding the thickest weeds in the lake and throwing a buzzbait. Night time 7 lber 2 Quote

Mainebass1984 Posted February 17, 2014 Posted February 17, 2014 I use just my headlamp. Usually I will have just the red light on so my eyes can adjust to the dark. The light of the moon is usually sufficient. I have my best luck during a full moon. It is usually surprisingly bright out with the full moon. 1 Quote
Super User Shane J Posted February 17, 2014 Super User Posted February 17, 2014 Night fishing. Awesome. One of my favorite things to do. My approach to night fishing, is to be as well prepared as possible, and to roll as simply as I can get away with. Life jacket is a must!! Usually only two rods, at least one with braid. Headlamp with white and red light LED's, spare battery for said light, clippers I can hang around my neck, and pliers on my belt for convenience, and to keep clutter down. For presentations, I personally love topwater stuff (Rage Shad!!!), and big ole jigs/Lobters. I have also caught more than a few hawgs dragging Tx rigged big worms, like the Anaconda and Recon. I admittedly stick to bodies of water I am completely familiar with, and always run my gps, so as not to get lost, which I have done. Night fishing really pulls you into nature. It's very relaxing and serene, and you focus much harder on your baits, and what they are doing, so it's a good exercise in feel, too. Like Mainebass said, I really like going right around a full moon. PS- Full moon, dead calm water. Slowly churning a Black Neon Rage Shad across the top of a vast lily pad field, has got to be one of the funnest things to do, period!! I have been handed some serious heart attacks doing that! NEjitterbugger Posted February 17, 2014 Posted February 17, 2014 I'll be fishing Okeechobee on Thursday the 27th with Captain Shane Procell, it will be my first time on Okeechobee and I'm pumped! I'll be doing more saltwater fishing sadly just because it's more convenient for me and don't want to bring down bass gear... Hopefully I'll have some nice pics for you guys! And my second biggest bass of my life was at night, and in mid October on a spook... Stripers, same thing I like to stick a heavy heavy jig on the bottom or throw a topwater or a bait that stays less than a foot under water... Then the night of my PB, I didn't throw one topwater bait but we caught 4 fish totaling 18lbs 3 oz during a full moon in an hour and a half! Quote
