My experience is that the skill of the fisherman means a lot. When I fish with guides, they ALWAYS outcatch me, even though we are throwing the same lures. Of course, part of that may be that they are at the front of the boat. But they are more accurate with their pitches, and they make less splash. They also seem to give the lure more subtle action than I can.

If you are paying them to take you fishing then they shouldn't be fishing. You as the client should be getting first cast on everything.

I hired guides when I was learning how to fish. I wanted to see how they located fish, how they selected lures and how they presented them. I learned a lot from them. But not everything they showed me has worked for me. At some point, you have to figure it out for yourself. Texas, Florida, California Minnesota and New England all fish differently. I have fished all of them with guides at first and then on my own. Minnesota is my favorite. Most anglers are fishing for Muskie, Pike and Walleye. The bass are less pressured. They bite hard and fight hard. And they are easier to find. They tend not to be in open water because of the threat from pike/muskie. They love bull rushes in 3 feet of water.

Anyone use a Hero camera? asking santa (wife) for one to record my fishing trips.

I have 2 different ones  I have not used them for fishing , i use them for hockey.  This one goes behind the glass right behind one of the nets during hockey games.  Its a Vivitar ...  785 or 787 both HD

There are 2 models,  mine is the older one. $59 at staples. Its awesome for what i use it for. The Go Pro is awesome also ,  just lots more money than i wanted to spend.  I would try this one first,   The better model. Keep in mind battery life if you fish for more than a few hours, as well as recording length.

I originally bought it with the intent of trying it for 2 weeks and returning it if it did not work out and getting the go pro. --- 2 years later i still have it and its awesome.

I also have a bullet cam ,  Its an older one by Contour,  It is the size of a 10 gauge shotgun shell. The key to this was small as possible and as rugged as possible. It has been hit several timesby pucks and still works.   I wear it on my ice hockey goalie and forward helmets as well as my motocross helmets.  It so far has been indestructible.   I liked it for its small size and solid metal construction.  It took longer to set up and get the angles down as it does not have a viewer screen,  after 3 or 4 times using it , i got it adjusted and mounted with the view i wanted.    This is probably not what you want for fishing.

In my opinion you cannot go wrong spending the $$$ on a go pro.  If you are willing to spend the $$$.

I have a few friends that have them and love them. I am asking "Santa" as well. I wanted the silver edition for the higher resolution but the lower one looks good from seeing my friends.

I like the what sony has to offer and the price point but the gopro has the remote key fob feature to turn the camera on/off and the app for the phone to see exactly what the camera is seeing. I guess to many choices. I am getting jealous of Brandon Palaniuk on facebook he has the gopro3 black edition and it is awesome. Thanks for that article Nashua Nev

Hmm. Anybody else notice we got a couple flurries last night? About 15" worth of flurries! Time to break out the snow machines, boys. Man, I hate the Winter!

It's all in the attitude currently making some decent cash in it. Can't wait to get my dog outside and find some partridge for a nice meal.

I hate it too. Man wasn't made to live in the cold, at least not this man.

I dont find much sport in ice fishing, but there is adequate ice for it now. I saw snowmobiles and a 6 wheeler out on the ice today in southern NH.

I phrased that poorly. When I go ice fishing the emphasis is typically on a big fire, good food and beer...with the occasional flag being a bonus. Ice fishing 100% can be a sport if you approach it like soft-water fishing and adjust to where you think the fish should be. I will be going out on the ice on Sunday and ill post some pictures if I get any good bass.

When I am out ice fishing I am always moving around unless I am really catching them good. I move around a lot. Most people just set up there traps and wait.  I am always jigging one hole as well. I seem to have more luck jigging them then on tip ups. Last Sunday I jigged up a 3-10 largemouth on my ultra light jigging rod and 2 lb test. That was a challenge. I was jigging for smelt.

I just do smelt fishing on ice in rented shacks in Maine. there is something about having 8 lines going and a roaring stove fire in the shack.

On other news it was nice to see a stiff sentence for that guy who killed someone that was on his boat on Northwood lake. As a victim because of someone drunk driving a boat I'm glad justice prevailed.

I got out and did some ice fishing yesterday morning in southern NH. I was by myself, it was raining, and the ice was about 2.5 inches thick, so I decided that I would stay near shore where I knew the water was 3-6 feet deep, incase I ended up falling through. I did not expect to catch any good bass that shallow, and my results were in line with my expectations. 1 pickerell and 1 big yellow perch. Im going to give the ice another week or two before I head back out to try some spots in deeper water.
