MrBassMan Posted September 22, 2013 Posted September 22, 2013 Found a fantastic place to Trout fish on the Contoocook river. If you go into Hillsboro and turn left to W/ Main Street, then turn left onto sand mill road (You will see a power plant) there is a place to park you car it is the connection to Contoocook and north branch river. Fantastic fishing there. I caught 5 trout. 2 rainbow and two brown trout 4 nice perch and believe it or not a brookie (I threw him back. I don't like to eat the brook trout because of the low population), out of there in about an hours time. i fished from 6:30 PM-8:00 PM Â and boy were they biting like crazy After 7:00 pm. I did not bring my fly rod but rather used a rooster tail with a live red worm tail and it was. bite after bite. If you enjoy trout fishing I highly recommend this spot. trout is my favorite fish to eat so, any time I can hit the river for trout I try to. 1 Quote
Beverly Bassman Posted September 23, 2013 Posted September 23, 2013 Hit the Merrimack for smallies. Wind was blowing pretty hard but managed 8 fish. Average size was below a pound but at least there was some action. 1 Quote

ResizedImage951379888263491.jpg The Piscataqua river is almost my back yard in fact the 95 bridge is my neighbor. Been catching stipers and black sea bass this year. Nothing big I just go to the river with my dog for some alone time every so often. Quote
YungAngler Posted September 26, 2013 Posted September 26, 2013 So I think I'm gonna pull the trigger on a Kayak this weekend . I've used Native's before, but I'm gonna test out a Nucanoe Frontier. Anyone have experience with Nucanoe's? I've received some advice in another thread, but it seems this thread always delivers for me. Any help is appreciated!! MikeOGNR Posted September 29, 2013 Posted September 29, 2013 Getting cooler by the day fishz.jpg When one season ends another begins haha BRING ON THE DEER SEASON. The one season though that can stay away is the dreaded winter -______- Quote
Nashua Nev Posted September 30, 2013 Posted September 30, 2013 Dont stop fishing , the bass are feeding well right now. Top water was awesome tonight , 2 right at the 20 inch mark and 8 others between 16 and 17 mark.  Go for the trifecta--- Shoot Turkey i the morning , a deer in the afternoon , and some early evening fishing.  Make it a challenge and shoot the turkey and deer with a bow.  In either case no need to stop fishing. I will use my canoe and kayak right up until the ice wont let me , Last year the Merrimack river was open almost all winter, its challenging but they still need to eat.  Most guys put their big boats away , if you are one of those and want to borrow my jon boat, trolling motor and trailer or you can throw it in a pick up truck, just send me a message. i live in Nashua.   Quote

Might take up fly fishing for the spring though next year. Quote
Beverly Bassman Posted September 30, 2013 Posted September 30, 2013 I am finding a good smallie bite on the rivers. I caught ten of them in about 16 feet of water. I got the more aggressive fish on a craw patterned deep diving crankbait and then I switched over to a drop shot to get the rest. They did not want rage craws in any color, nor did they want jigs or senkos in any colors. Also no spinnerbait or topwater bite. But they were on the crankbait and the drop shot. I also had four or five fish on that did not get well hooked by the crankbait.   Quote
bobh64 Posted September 30, 2013 Posted September 30, 2013 Whats everyone using for a crank bait? I am honest to say I don't use them as much as I should large mouth fishing. Quote
Super User Shane J Posted September 30, 2013 Super User Posted September 30, 2013 What do you mean, no bite on a Rage Craw? The only fish I got today, were on the Rage DB Craw, Tx rigged. Actually, a fish or two on the Cut 'R Worm, too. You don't get bit on a Rage Craw, just go home, because all the bass have left the building. 1 Quote
Super User Shane J Posted September 30, 2013 Super User Posted September 30, 2013 Bob, if you are going with a crank, this time of year, it's tough to beat a Red Eye Shad, and a KVD 1.5 in the patterns of whatever baitfish are where you are, in this area, Bluegill and perch. 2 Quote

Beverly Bassman Posted October 1, 2013 Posted October 1, 2013 Not sure why I don't get bit on Rage Craws that much. I have sure given them some time this summer/fall. I did best with them pitching them into heavy cover/vegetation. Never got a bit on them in a rocky scenario with a more open bottom. Sunday, I was catching the smallies in 16 to 20 feet of water in a pretty rocky area, right at the edge of where it fell off into 30 feet. They did not seem to want a bait that was actually on the bottom. No bites at all on any jig or texas rig. One thing that might have worked is a swim jig. I don't really have that down but I need to learn. The deep diving crankbait (Rapala DT 16 in craw pattern) and the drop shot with an 18 inch leader got lots of action. I notice that smallies will hit a crankbait that they would have a hard time fitting in their mouth. So I semi foul hooked several of them and they came unhooked. But I landed four on the rapala and six on the drop shot. 1 Quote

Bob I like the Luck E Strike square bills #2 in green copper shad, and Lucky Craft LV500 in Spring Craw is one of my favorites this time of yr right up until ice. 1 Quote
