bobh64 Posted June 10, 2013 Posted June 10, 2013 I have never tried a senko texas rigged? hmm sounds interesting I assume you just throw it to cover let it sink then just reel and twitch?? and then ever so often just kill it and start again. Thats what I do, alternate between a fast or slow retrieve the fish will tell you what they prefer for the day. The good side of a real yamamoto senko is they are heavy by them selves with a breezy day i use a 1/8 bullet or a pinch weight on the wacky rig. The bad side is they don't last long, the plastic is very soft. I personally have upwards to 20 bags in my boat of my favorite colors to get me through. When things get tough I grab a senko. Quote
mhtranger Posted June 10, 2013 Posted June 10, 2013 I use them all the time Wacky rigged with the O ring so I get a lot more time out of them. Quote

MikeOGNR Posted June 10, 2013 Posted June 10, 2013 My uncles bass tournament partner works for a tackle company I literally have over 20-30 of the senkos ranging from all brands. I just hated fishing them wacky style it bored me, but to Texas rig them seems interesting. Quote
Tyfisher Posted June 10, 2013 Posted June 10, 2013 Caught a bass on a hollow-body frog for the first time today. Was around 5 p.m. in a little pond that I frequent. Only a pound or so, but was excited to finally hook up with the frog, have missed several due to user error. 1 Quote
NEjitterbugger Posted June 11, 2013 Posted June 11, 2013 Got out for 2 and a half hours today, couldn't buy a bight!!!! I was very surprised... Still can't wait to get back on the water for my next journey!! Quote

But some days, they just do not cut it. And for how expensive they are they have terrible durability. If you catch a fish chances are your senko is done Quote

Nashua Nev Posted June 13, 2013 Posted June 13, 2013 In the Kayak is Rollins pond Gilmanton, this afternoon 6 total all under 3 lbs but over 2.  The ones on shore are tonight between 8:30 and 9:15 the biggest was 5 lb 7 oz - 9 fish total , not all are pictured - my Favorite river.        Quote
PLombard68 Posted June 13, 2013 Posted June 13, 2013 WOW! nice hogs Nev. What kind of yak do you use. I am looking into buying one come July but not sure if I want a sit on top or sit in one. What do you recommend for fishing? Quote
Nashua Nev Posted June 13, 2013 Posted June 13, 2013 Thanks  I have a very basic yellow patomac $299 from Dicks with a $60 paddle. It is a sit in 10 footer.  It is actually up for sale $150 with the paddle and an adult jacket. I want to get a bigger 2 seater for me and the wife.  I use it for more than just fishing. I love it.  So simple , so easy , so light. It is somewhere about a yr old , maybe 14 months. I did not post it on craigs list yet. When i have the funds saved of $350, then i am going to post it. I need about $500 total to get the new 2 person one. So far i have $300 saved , in another 2 weeks i will post it. $25 a week i set aside. I am an average 50 yr old 175 lb guy and have no problems with the sit in type.  There are a few places you can test drive them but most of those places are much bigger $ kayaks. at least the ones i have seen. I use it in the Nashua river a lot. Quote
PLombard68 Posted June 13, 2013 Posted June 13, 2013 Looks awesome. I was actually looking at the Lifetime Daylite Kayak from walmart for around $200. Had a lot of great reviews and seems pretty sturdy and lightweight. I'm just looking for something I can get out on the lakes and ponds with. Something that will not tip easily seeing i'm not a strong swimmer. Quote
Nashua Nev Posted June 13, 2013 Posted June 13, 2013 Also check the new place in Derry that just opened up, i saw some in their flyer today. , ocean state. The other thing thing to consider with sit in vs sit on top , is getting in and out. I am only 5 ft 5 , i have no problems jumping in and out. if i was big i think i would be going for a sit on for what i use it for.  also just something i noticed between the canoe and the kayak. In the kayak you are at water level and it can be tough to see weeds , especially small stuff on top , in the canoe the view is 100 times better. also i need to use fishing rods with short handles in the kayak, the longer butt ends tend to hit the kayak and force me to keep my arms up higher. Also i dont use a net, and i have only a small tackle bag. just thinking storage if you are one that needs stuff. sit on types look like they have more room Quote
EddieC1981 Posted June 14, 2013 Posted June 14, 2013 The wife and I are going on our honeymoon to Maine the first week of July. I'm looking for some good productive ponds or lakes for bass. Around or near Portland. We'll need some type of shore access. Any help would be great. Thanks Quote
HeavyDluxe Posted June 14, 2013 Posted June 14, 2013 Just a quick plug for Alden of Sunapee (link) if you're looking for kayaks in NH. Â I got my first fishing kayak there this spring. Â They have demo lakes where you can paddle the different boats, and their customer service is absolutely great. Â They also are a Hobie reseller - Hobie being a site sponsor. Â Â (Hey, mods... I don't know if this treads too close the marketing provision in the site's TOS. Â If it does, just delete this post.) Quote
Super User deaknh03 Posted June 14, 2013 Super User Posted June 14, 2013 I went out with Fishing Rhino yesterday, we hit Cobbetts. Between the 2 of us, we got at least 50 LM and SM, biggest Lm was around 3.5-4 lbs, caught by Rhino, and he also nailed 3 or 4 decent sized smallies. We used a rig that he introduced to me, I won't share it without his approval, but we caught 95% of the fish on this rig, awesome day. Quote
Super User Fishing Rhino Posted June 14, 2013 Super User Posted June 14, 2013 I've posted about this "rig" before.  So far, it has worked for me everywhere I've fished it. It's simple. A Rage Tail Menace on a jig head, held in place with Locktite super glue. It did its thing very well at the latest Road Trip to Pickwick. And, if color is important to you, I was using a Pumpkin with purple and gold flakes. Deaknh03 used watermelon with red and black flakes. When my inventory of the pumpkin was gone, I used the watermelon with the same results.  We had a contest going, but it was so complicated Einstein couldn't have sorted it out. Each largemouth bass counted one point. Deduct one point for each boated pickerel. There was a small dispute as to whether or not smallmouth bass should be worth more than one point. I lobbied for it, because there was only one smallmouth boated in the first two or three hours, and that was by me. In the end, we settled for a draw.  The following image shows the rig with a Rage Tail grub. The Menace is rigged the same way.  The Menace can be rigged with the tail horizontal or vertical.    The above is rigged with a Jackall Wacky Jig Head, 1/8th ounce. Cannot use lead in Mass, or I'd use the Gamakatsu Wacky Jig hook. It slips through all the vegetation much better than the Jackall hook. The vertical eye and shank of the Jackall grabs a lot of "stuff" that the Gamakatsu doesn't. The Gamakatsu has a recessed eye at the front which sheds vegetation much better. In addition. the Gamakatsu has two weedguard wires which are nearly indestructible. They are a nickel/titanium alloy which allows them to spring without getting bent. EddieC1981 Posted June 15, 2013 Posted June 15, 2013 Fishing George's pond in grafton tonight. I took a small preview mid day and there is a tiny launch with hardly any shore access so I'll wade around. I've heard good things so we shall see. Quote
Nashua Nev Posted June 16, 2013 Posted June 16, 2013 Friday night , my favortie river at a different spot.  I changed the battery in my digital scale. and could not get it back to pounds,   Largest one was 2.69 kg. 2nd biggest was 2.62 kg 3rd biggest 2.59, my scale is now set back at LB  Had something big on the hula popper but never saw it,  I am thinking it was a big pickerel as there was no jumping at all,  could have been a big turtle also.  Was a very hard strong and steady pull till i lost it  Black 4 inch jitterbug , big white hula popper , black double colorado spinner ,   all were caught going slow       1 Quote
NEjitterbugger Posted June 16, 2013 Posted June 16, 2013 Think I might try the Nashua tonight... Definitely going somewhere tonight, any suggestions? Quote
bobh64 Posted June 16, 2013 Posted June 16, 2013 Most of the lakes I have fished (Maine) the large mouth are off and the small mouth are finishing spawning. With the crazy rain storm we had during the last full moon you might still see large mouth that skipped the last spawn do there needs, its not uncommon to see beds all summer.just not as many. Quote
