Gutterbust255 Posted April 6, 2012 Posted April 6, 2012 So i just arrived in Southeastern Connecticut last year and I have been trying to find some fishing spots here. I'm not against driving an hour or two to Mass. or R.I. if i'm going out for the day or weekend. Does anyone know any lakes or ponds that have good fishing. I've fished large mouth my whole life but wouold like to try smallmouth soon too. Any word if any have been restocked this year? Any Advice or suggestions would be greatly appriciated Quote
Sleepless Weekends Posted April 7, 2012 Posted April 7, 2012 Candlewood. it's in Connecticut. im headind that way on the 21st and im from MA. If you haven't fished it your missing out on a great fishery. Quote
grampa1114 Posted April 8, 2012 Posted April 8, 2012 As a general rule of thumb, at least in Mass., the stocked fish are trout and occasionally salmon but not bass. If you follow 395 north...a possibility for you is Hopeville, Ct. St. Park. They say the bass and pike are good there. Another 20 miles gets you to Webster Ma. and that lake is excellent. Another 15 miles after that, brings you to Quinsigamond in Worcester, Ma....also very good. There are also some ramps to get into the Thames River in the area of the casinos. They might be worth looking up under Ct.DNR.com Good luck and good fishing Grampa Quote
backwater4 Posted April 9, 2012 Posted April 9, 2012 In CT, Candlewood, Lillinonah, and Zoar are all in the same area. All are good, with Candlewood being an excellent and consistant lake. Quote

Dan Chilek Posted April 20, 2012 Posted April 20, 2012 Thanks for all the advice, I'll definately check out Candlewood and the others. I've pretty went up and down the 95 and 12 but i still haven't tried 395. someone told me there is something by mohegan, but that didn't sound to reliable. Again thanks Quote
BassFitzpatrick Posted July 3, 2012 Posted July 3, 2012 Miller pond in durham is decent shorefishing if you just just a day out. I reccomend if you visit the pond you hike to the harder to reach spots. Wink wink. Also I will vouch for candlewood bantem lake. Zoar is also good. Good luck and most importanty, have fun. Quote
mikey5string Posted July 4, 2012 Posted July 4, 2012 Where are you? I am in West Haven and it is a dead zone for lakes/ponds around here. I fish the same 3 spots pretty much all season and boats allowed in 2, elec trolling motors only. One is private too. I am starting to make friends via a local fishing website and have gotten out on Candlewood on a bass boat and am probably heading up rt 8 next week to fish with a guy I met there. The good thing about having a limited # of spots is that you REALLY learn them! I have heard good things about a couple places in Meriden I might try. Quote
LunkerLust Posted July 4, 2012 Posted July 4, 2012 I live in Shelton, a kind of dead zone, with mostly private lakes, water company, and small ponds. When I travel in your diection I like Quonapaug, Messerschmitt, Uncas, Pattagansett, Rogers, Powers, and a little further north, Moodus. A few that I want to go to are Amos, Long pond, Billings, and some others that I would like to camp out so I can avoid the traffic jams on I95. Also, you can go online to the Ct DEP store and get the lakes and ponds guide for around $20. Quote
hookset on 3 Posted July 11, 2012 Posted July 11, 2012 Try Wyassup Lake in North Stonington for smallmouth. Pachaug Pond for largemouth. Quote
Fishintology Posted July 12, 2012 Posted July 12, 2012 Nothing too much in Fairfield county huh? Seems like no one rents row boats either. Quote
