You can buy the stick on letters and numbers for your boat, and they'll do the job. But, if you are fuss over every detail, check out having your registration number done by a graphics sign shop. I had mine done by a local fellow I've known for years. Cost forty bucks which included the application. He would have slanted the numbers to match the NITRO, but the state specifies "block" numbers and letters. Not being sure if it could be a problem, I opted out of slanting them.

While it may cost a few bucks more, they are more durable than the peel and stick type, and they go on as one piece with the top film peeled off once they are applied.

No. The state started registering boats in the late 50s or early 60s. That was long before Massachusetts was shortened to MA. Have no idea why they initially used MS, but they did, and continue using it to this day.

Back then when you addressed a letter or package for the post office to send to someone in MA, the abbreviation was Mass.

I've been putting off doing this for awhile now. I absolutely hate my current peel and stick numbers. I will probably do this after the Roadtrip. It looks great.

I had a sign company make mine too , i actually got mine a little more like italics. Turned out pretty sweet.

I guess I've been a fussy, anal guy for a long time.

I've had a grahics shop do mine on my last three boats. I actually had one game warden more anal than me though. I had a set made with a metal flake material in somewhat of italic font, because the boat also had a metal flake stripe I had to put the letters/numbers on, he didn't think there was enough contrast. I asked him where in the book it said they had to have a certain contrast, it just said they had to be contrasting. I spent 10 minutes waiting while he was on the phone with his powers to be. I guess they ruled in my favor because when he finally got off, he said I was ok but I should probably change them because I would have this problem again. I used it another five years and he was the only one that gave me a problem.
