uabasspro Posted April 4, 2012 Posted April 4, 2012 I found a great deal on this fish finder and I'm thinking about buying it. Does anyone have one or just information on humminbirds in general? It is a GPS unit as well. Also, how hard are they to install? Quote
Super User Wayne P. Posted April 4, 2012 Super User Posted April 4, 2012 Which one of the three 788ci units??? 788ci 788ci HD 788ci HD DI The GPS system is one of the most accurate available. It is very common to get 5' or less Estimated Position Error. They are very easy to install. The most difficult part is running the transducer cable from the transducer location to the display depending on what boat you have. Quote
Olebiker Posted April 4, 2012 Posted April 4, 2012 I have one and it is just great. Installation is very simple and straightforward. If I can do it, anyone can. I had it on the console at first and moved it to the bow when I bought a side imaging unit. The two units are Interlinked. Quote
NILBasser Posted April 4, 2012 Posted April 4, 2012 I love mine. Got it 2 years ago and wouldn't trade it. Quote
uabasspro Posted April 4, 2012 Author Posted April 4, 2012 It's just the 788ci. Thanks for the replies! Quote
Super User Wayne P. Posted April 5, 2012 Super User Posted April 5, 2012 This is an example of a summer thermocline and fish position you can get with almost no settings adjustments. I just change the color pallet and turn on white line bottom. Quote
uabasspro Posted April 5, 2012 Author Posted April 5, 2012 Can someone tell me the difference between the 597ci HD DI and the 788ci combo? I know the down imaging is nice, but I have to be losing somewhere from going from the 700 series down to the 500 series. They both have GPS, but is one better than the other? Any advice would be appreciated. Quote
Super User Wayne P. Posted April 6, 2012 Super User Posted April 6, 2012 The main difference is the 597ci HD units can not be linked to another unit to share data. The 788ci HD series can be linked to another unit with Ethernet or Interlink. You cannot compare a DI unit with a non-DI unit. There is a DI version and a non-DI versionif the 788 and there is DI version jand a non-DI verson of the 597. Both of them are "Combos" meaning they have GPS and sonar. Refer to the Humminbird web site for their products. Quote
uabasspro Posted April 6, 2012 Author Posted April 6, 2012 what would you recommend the 597ci HD DI or just the plain 788ci combo? Quote
Super User Wayne P. Posted April 6, 2012 Super User Posted April 6, 2012 Now that I know what the imaging technology can do (I use Side Imaging equipment), I would choose the 597ci HD DI. I don't use the interconnection cables with my units so that is not a "need" for me. Quote
