Leader For Carolina Rig...mono Or Fluorocarbon

Have a baitcaster setup with 14# Mono. Wanting to run a Carolina rig. What's better for a leader,Mono or Fluorocarbon?

My train of thought is that mono floats,but it also stretches,and to my knowledge buoyancy in a Carolina rig is somewhat desired.

With FC there's less stretch,the line is less visible,but the line sinks.

So what's better for a Carolina rig,Mono or FC and why?

IMO the average C-rig leader is 3-4' so I doubt stretch would be a factor

Why not give these a try? They also come in clear.

With these your leader can be as long as you want it and want to have to retie or replace leader line.

I use both. I pre-rig leaders on Cabela's small "tackle tamers". I have one with mono leaders and one with FC. I fish a lot of c-rigs, but rarely find much difference between the two types of leaders as far as catching fish.

The stretch you should be worried about is the mainline.

Up where were are there are a lot of rock and Zebra Mussels. A FC leader will sink and and scuff over these and break more than a mono leader since it tends to suspend/float in the water. That's just been my experience and that of a lot of guys in my club.

I throw a Rig all the time and use a flourocarbon leader. The main reason for doing that is because I fish a lot of clear water lakes and flouro. is almost invisible under water. I use 20# main line and 15# flouro. leader. If it wasn't for that, I would use a mono leader.

So I've got a 14# mono main line and a 10# FC leader about the length of my arm. I know some will say I need to up the # test on both my main and leader,guess ill figure that out when I give it a try today,if I hook up. When I was in my mid teens,I used a c-rig for the first time,had no concept of line stretch and such,probably only used 10# for my main and 8# for a leader,and all went well...

Tests have shown that there is little difference in the amount of stretch between mono and fluoro especially in leader length like Catt said . When you drag the weight, the bait will float up and lift the line off the bottom and one of fluoros advantages is abrasion resistance. I'm not sure a leader's length of fluoro would weigh down a bait noticably. Most of my leaders are fluoro but matched with braid. With a mono mainline it probably doesn't matter much either way.
