SmokeRise1 Posted April 3, 2012 Posted April 3, 2012 Anyone ever use white braid? If so, did you color it with a marker or leave it white? If you colored it, what color and did you find it made any difference? Quote
Super User J Francho Posted April 3, 2012 Super User Posted April 3, 2012 Use a leader or color it dark green/black. 1 Quote
Super User SirSnookalot Posted April 4, 2012 Super User Posted April 4, 2012 Never have used white braid, but my green is pretty pale now. I always use a leader with braid, much easier to unwrap a leader from hooks than braided line and that happens all the time for me. Quote
Super User Catt Posted April 4, 2012 Super User Posted April 4, 2012 When I first started experimenting with "braid" it was cotton, then dacron and micron. They were all white with speckles of black or brown to breakup the silhouette, we had no problems catching fish. Since this was before mono became popular the bass had not evolved to the point of recognising line and avoiding it. 1 Quote

BradH Posted April 4, 2012 Posted April 4, 2012 I've still got some old white tuff line on a few reels from a few years ago, it just won't die!. I never botherd to color it but most of the time it's got a leader tied on. Quote
gr8outdoorz Posted April 8, 2012 Posted April 8, 2012 I use Spiderwire Invisibraid thats white. On my frog rod I tie direct and just color the first 4 ft or so black. For t-rigs and jigs i use fluoro leader. I personally like the white as its easier for me to see while watching the line. Jus my .02 Quote
Super User QUAKEnSHAKE Posted April 8, 2012 Super User Posted April 8, 2012 My 1st PP was the off-white color from around 10 years ago still have it on a set-up. I caught fish didnt think about the color being an issue. About the white color of line. I bought Nanofil, and on the same lake Ive been fishing PP the old white and Moss green, I had my best 1hr -1 1/2hr stretch ever. The white Nano sure didnt seem to hinder my catches. Quote
James Yalem Posted April 8, 2012 Posted April 8, 2012 Given the success of the Alabama Rig on clear water lakes like Table Rock in MO, does line visibility really matter to bass? Quote
buzzfrog Posted April 8, 2012 Posted April 8, 2012 Given the success of the Alabama Rig on clear water lakes like Table Rock in MO, does line visibility really matter to bass? i gotta agree Quote
bassinCPA Posted April 17, 2012 Posted April 17, 2012 I have recently been using sufix 832 ghost. This line is as visible to me on the water's surface as hi-vis yellow. The best thing about the white line is the fact that it does not fade or bleed dye all over your equipment. If you feel the need to color the first few feet, you can always pick a color that best matches the conditions you are facing. I really this stuff. Quote
Super User eyedabassman Posted April 17, 2012 Super User Posted April 17, 2012 i gotta agree I would not think so because it is a reaction bait. Now if I were fishing a T-Rig, jig, ect. in a clear lake then yes it can Quote
buzzfrog Posted April 18, 2012 Posted April 18, 2012 I would not think so because it is a reaction bait. Now if I were fishing a T-Rig, jig, ect. in a clear lake then yes it can guess i am still a novice then, i figured that it wouldnt be a reaction if it saw a school of fish and had time to realize it broke from the pack, Not saying or even starting a subject on the smartness of a bass, but i when i think reaction i think ripping a cranks, bouncing a spinnebait off a rock, or a topwater going over a bass ticking it off, though again i dont fish or know mutch about the A rig Quote
Super User J Francho Posted April 18, 2012 Super User Posted April 18, 2012 It's a moving bait, the bass must react immediately, or lose the opportunity because it's gone in a few seconds. Outside of the rare moments that bass are actively and aggressively feeding, they rarely chase a bait really far. Think of the wires on a spinnerbait or a buzzbait. Same thing. Quote
craww Posted April 18, 2012 Posted April 18, 2012 The thing i dont undertstand is why everyone colors their braid with a black sharpie? Black will make it stand out MORE in alot of situations. I take a spike it and mark up the line on the spool, breaks up the line betterIMO. Quote
Super User J Francho Posted April 18, 2012 Super User Posted April 18, 2012 As visibility decreases, the line will look black anyway. Quote
Fish Chris Posted April 19, 2012 Posted April 19, 2012 To answer the original question, I LOVE white braid Way easier to see on my end, especially my micro braid I use on the ultra lights, and since I always use a mono leader anyway, no problem. Yes, I used to use braid straight to my hooks or lures, and I used brown and green markers with a slit cut in the tips, to pull my line through. How much difference that made to the fish ? Eh... probably not much. But for way more reasons than just line visibility, I almost always use a mono leader for all of my braided line fishing anyway. Fish 1 Quote
Quarry Man Posted June 5, 2017 Posted June 5, 2017 Looking at white braid vs red braid what do you think is best for watching my line? Quote
Super User NHBull Posted June 6, 2017 Super User Posted June 6, 2017 Given this thread is 5 yrs old, perhaps starting a new one might be in order.......on a side note I think there were reviews on TW about ghost white...think it was 832 2 Quote
