  1. I'm a die hard Zoom fan!! I just put all my other plastics on the give away shelf and boxes.... now got a giant pile aka 2 huge boxes of strike king, netbait, culprit, Yamamoto, missle bait, BBB, and keitech collecting dust.... why? Well ZOOM is just cheaper and flat out catches fish!! My everyday fishing bag now consist of ZOOM trick worms, finesse worms, super vibe craws, Z hogs, baby brush hogs, Z drop shot worms, shakey head worms, mag shakey head worms, ol monsters, flukes, new swim baits, toads, top water frogs, and the new to me ZLINKY!! fair to say if zoom dont make it, I wont throw it.... now I understand everyone has a preference and what they like and this is just mine. So please be courteous and not take what I say as a jab to anyone or you. But back to the new to me Zlinky.... wow.... its light weight but it falls and acts just as good as my GY senkos and its durable as all get out. Caught 5 fish on just 1 zlinky but heavy enough to skip and cast a country mile. Works great on Neko rig, wacky rig, t-rig ect.... I absolutely fell in love with them. Needless to say ZOOM is now all I will throw 100% of the time. I know I'm going to get the "well your missing out" or "you need....." comments but after trying virtually every brand out I just always find myself going back to zoom. But if any of you guys haven't used the zlinky check em out. Get 10 for liken 3.98 my fave colors are blueberry, green pumpkin, watermelon red flake, Houdini, and ghost shad. But I love all the zoom baits and I think I pretty much have every bait they make. Also the new "elaztech" type frogs are top water and absolutely bullet proof. But I recommend a 5/0 EWG hook with 1/4oz hook weight to keep it up right. But they skip and pull through cover like no ones business. But regardless.... I just wanted to share my thoughts and feelings toward zoom baits and just an avg guy who really likes them. It's not a cost issue either.... I just like em.
  2. When I have a topwater strike on a Whopper Plopper or other topwater I've noticed that if I throw a follow-up Senko or Zoom Super Fluke I have a good chance of catching the fish however, if I just re-cast that same lure and retrieve it over the spot again there is a good chance it won't get hit. So, when a regular topwater gets missed I definitely want to throw a Senko or Super Fluke as a follow-up bait rather than the same lure. When I throw a Whopper Frog (Homemade Teckel Sprinker Frog) I've found that it is better to just keep reeling but reel slower and you have a very good chance of catching that fish. Sometimes recasting the frog again also works. It seems that by reeling slower you give the fish time to re-position and strike again. I've attempted to throw the Senko as a follow-up to this and have only caught the fish once. I've caught at least a dozen fish on Whopper Frog when they miss it by simply continuing to reel slowly and hooking the fish on the 2nd strike. So, why does just reeling slower work with the Whopper Frog but with any other topwater bait like the Whopper Plopper I appear to have a much better chance with a Senko or Super Fluke follow-up bait instead of just reeling slower? Maybe it's because the fish get stuck a little with the treble hooks of the topwater bait and not the double hooks of the frog, I don't know.
  3. I love using Zoom Super Flukes, especially under docks. However, it seemed that with weightless Texas Rigging the hole where the hook goes through the fluke would eventually get tore up and allow the hook to poke through too much ruining it's weedlessnes and it would start fouling a lot on weeds. I saw a video on here posted by another Bass Resource'r that showed using a medium Owner CPS Twistlock to nosehook the fluke like a Banjo Minnow. It seemed great so I tried it. However, I lost 3 CPS Twistlocks because the opening was just too big for the hook. They weren't lost fighting fish, just during casting. Since I didn't want to change the hook or Twistlock size I had to find a way to keep it on. Owner CPS Twistlocks aren't cheap, so I wanted to avoid losing them. I thought about it and tried putting on some Heat Shrink Tubing on the hook first, then adding the Twistlock, and then putting the rest of the heat shrink over the hook and cutting the excess heat shrink. We tried it out today and if worked great. Caught a lot of sunnies and largemouth including this 3.5lber. Didn't lose any more Flukes or Twistlocks. Also, for some reason this seems to be more weedless than any other way I've tried rigging Super Flukes, including T-Rigging. What you need: 1.) Zoom Super Fluke 2.) 1/8" inch Heat Shrink 3.) Owner Twistlock CPS - medium size 4.) Hook of your choice (I like 2/0 Owner Mosquito Hooks)

  5. For a long time, I've been keeping most of soft plastic bags in my Plano tackle bag, which has a clear compartment underneath the main flap. It holds about 20 bags of plastics. However, I'm getting more soft plastics than the bag can hold. I'm looking into get the lews boat bag and putting my bags in a couple of big Plano utility boxs and storing the boxs in the boat bag. Just curious on what size utility box you all use or how you store your plastics. Thanks guys!
  6. Just a small snippet of my recent tournament adventures. Up until very recently (the past 2 months to be exact) I have been an annual "donater" in both of the small tournament organizations that I fish in. I'd use the same techniques as all the other guys out on the water, fish the same areas that should hold fish etc etc. Sometimes I'd land a nice fish or two, but would fall short of a limit, or I'd have a limit and not have any big bites. I was starting to think that I would never be able to put it all together on a tournament day (even if I can normally do alright on any regular day of fishing). Combine this with my lack of confidence at most endeavors on a daily basis...yeah, not really a winning combination. My normal co-angler couldn't go to one of the tournaments, and I was asked if I wanted to be a co-angler for someone else who also was short a partner. These are small tournaments, so you can fish with anyone at any particular event, not a regulated partner required for the duration of the season. I agreed, figuring to give my old boat a break, not to mention saving my back from trolling motor duties for a day. The new boater and I got along well and had a decent day of fishing. I busted my a** to the best of my ability, trying to get fish in the boat as hard as I ever had. We ended up finishing third - the lowest spot that still made pay-out that particular day. It was my first time cashing in a tournament. About two weeks later (back with my normal partner) - we fished another tournament at a private pond and just lit the fish up - suddenly fishing felt easy, I wasn't really thinking about what if X or Y, I was just doing. Every cast I was confident there would be a fish on - going so far as to call a few hook-ups before they actually happened. Not that I was feeling cocky or anything of the sort, but on some casts it just...felt right - if that makes sense. Like I knew before the bait hit the water. We finished the tournament without incident (always a good thing) and ended up winning - I couldn't have been more pumped. Finally it had all come together. Last weekend..it happened again - my partner and I didn't quite slay the bass like the previous tournament, but we caught a limit and managed to cull 3 times - lucking out as we only caught 9 bass all day, and we won for the second straight time. During this small win streak, I've done nothing different than I normally do, EXCEPT - I believed I would catch fish. I don't know if this somehow subconsciously made me fish harder, faster, more efficiently or something...but I am certain of one thing - winning made me happy at first...but now I'm bloodthirsty. I don't want to go back to being a "donator" as they used to call us...these few wins have become a catalyst for me. I've always valued soaking up as much information and experience as possible - but now I feel like it is time to shift into high gear, because I want to keep on winning. A few small wins does not a good fisherman make, but hopefully I can continue to hone and improve my skills, and shake any doubt that perhaps all of this was just a fluke. Plus it is kind of nice to see some of those smug grins that used to greet me, turn into more pensive stares when I carry my bag of fish up to the scale. Only time will tell, but I've got new motivation for once, which is refreshing. tl:dr; I managed to win a couple small tourneys; Confidence is some strange fishing enigma that I might have glimpsed briefly; I hope to keep improving. Thanks for reading this meandering post.
  7. I was wondering how to fish these zoom lizards. They are the 6 inch super salty in green pumpkin with purple green flake. Ive never fished soft plastics before but i was reading up on it and with lizards i think theyll be best during all phases of the spawn. I learned to basically just fish it near shore and along beds can be deadly. Most of my curiosity is how to rig them. I have some gamakatsu 4/0 offset shank hooks, i see a lot of videos of people rigging soft plastics with larger hooks. I was also curious if you can rig it on a jig head (does jig head color matter) I have smaller jig heads in size 6 since i do not fish exclusively bass and i felt that this was a good all around size hook for all different species of fish. Thanks everyone!
  8. Has anyone tried using the Zoom fluke stick for drop shooting? If so which size did you use, did you use the salty or regular and how well did it work for you? What would be your favorite way to fish the fluke stick?
  9. Does anyone know where I can locate some black/blue, black, or sapphire Zoom Fat Albert Single Tail Grubs? I have searched the web and called my local tackle shops and I cannot locate any. I found a place in Montanna but they are closed until they thaw out. Thanks for any suggestions.

  11. Hey everyone, I live in south texas near Houston. I fish Lake livingston alot (tournaments) and do alot of small lake fishing around the area. My wife just bought me a new KVD tackle bag. Every angler knows how exciting it is to put organize and sort all of your tackle especially if you have a new tackle box or bag. Well, I have an assortment of worms and spinner baits and rattle traps all the basic stuff.. I am going to take a trip to the tackle store or look around online to buy all new stuff for my new bag. Does anyone have any thoughts on what I should buy to have a COMPLETE bass fishing tackle box? & anything that can set my tackle above all my friends? Any should have accessories ? Specific Lures, brands, colors would all be helpful. I know the basics and what colors to throw in what conditions and clarity ect. So you dont have to act like your talking to a begginer. Just curious if I can find out some lures or baits that I didnt know about or anything. Thanks guys, Zack

  13. Sorry if this topic has been brought up one million times, but I searched the forums and couldn't find anything detailed enough. I'm rather new to fishing, and I've heard really good things about the super fluke. I went out and bought a pack of pearl white w/chartreuse tail super flukes, and went to the river. After about 3 hours of struggling, I gave up and switched to a jig. I had the super fluke texas rigged weightless, but what techniques do you guys use for the retrieve? I tried jerking it lightly then pausing for a second, then reeling in slack and jerking it again, but I wasn't having much luck. I know the rule of thumb is colder water is slower retrieve and warmer water is a faster retrieve, but is there a point where warm becomes too hot and it's better to go slow again? Also, what conditions are best for super fluke fishing? It's been unusually warm here (95+), so maybe flukes aren't well-suited for temperatures this warm? Finally, what type of structure/formation do you guys look for when using a super fluke? I tried throwing mine across the mouth of a creek as well as around a downed tree (only in about 3-4 feet of water though), but are there any other places where a super fluke works well? I don't own a boat, so it has to be limited to locations accessible from shore. I tried working it semi-quickly across the top of the water with pauses, as well as a very slow retrieve deeper in the water column, and still couldn't get a bite. I'm not ready to give up on the fluke yet, but I'd like to get some feedback so I'm not wasting my time if it just isn't good conditions for them. Sorry for all the questions, but thanks for any help.
  14. Check out this video if this fatty I caught before the spawn. She was on a dock in 3 ft of water. I missed her the first time but she came right back for it after I got it back in there. 3lb. 9oz. Nothing but belly!
