  1. Hi! I'm just going to be as straight forward as possible: What is your opinion on the best 200 or less, VERSITLE, worm and jig rod? Or a rod over 200 that can be had for 200 or less, for example on TW's Black Friday sale is 20% off. Thanks for any input and tight lines! Harrison
  2. I’ve been looking to get a new worm and jig rod (with maybe the occasional chatterbait or topwater) and I’ve narrowed it down to either the 6’10”MH Zodias or 72MH Zodias or a 7MH Avid. They honestly both seem like very good rods, and I like the makeup of the Zodias a little bit more than the Avid. However, I also like the Avids warranty and the fact that it’s made in the US as well. The lack of hookeeper on the Zodias does not bother me. For those of you who own the rods, what are they like? Are they too stiff to throw 1/4 ounce t rigs? Are they sensitive? Are they versitile or pretty technique specific? If anyone owns both, which do you prefer? Any and all imput is appreciated! Thanks!
  3. Hey all, I'm having trouble choosing between the Lew's Tournament MB, and the Lew's Mach Crush SLP for a new caster-combo. I'm set on the speed demon pro 7'3 Medium jig/worm, but if anyone has an opinion on these 2 reels or a completely different smooth LOW PROFILE baitcaster for this setup I'd appreciate any advice.
  4. Hey all, I'm dead set on 2 cheap rods for a caster setup, that I could buy in bulk. Can I have some of your guy's or gal's opinions on the kingkast Royale Legend, and the Penn rampage? If not what would you suggest? I'm looking at medium to medium heavy for 1/4 to 1/2 jig/worm/Spinner for Striped and largemouth. Thanks!
  5. Hope everyone is enjoying their ice out time. Up in massachusetts as I’m sure most know lead jigs are not allowed. Being from Florida I have apparently been breaking the law the last year and would like to rectify that problem. The issue I’m face with is the lack of known sources for quality lead free jigs and different weighted heads. Ones that I really like are the siebert brush jigs and mega strike jigs, I really like the way the mega strike jigs stand up. 7nfortunately they do not appear to carry a lead free version of the Shakey heads. Does anyone know of sources that have a good lead free Shakey Head in that style or perhaps a mold as I was all set to start pouring jigs until I realized I could not use lead. Thanks Brian
  6. I just bought some zoom trick worms in watermelon magic on amazon and am curious what everyones experiences are fishing these along with advice on: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B005Z7S28K/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&th=1&psc=1 1. Where to fish them 2. How to Fish them 3. How to rig them 4. Did I choose a productive color
  7. Hi everyone, Just started fishing at a new lake called Lake Chabot in the Oakland area and was wondering what you guys have had success on in that lake specifically or if you have any tips when fishing a new lake. It is a relatively large lake with deepish water in certain areas. Stocked with trout but has bass and catfish as well. Thanks for the help!
  8. Good morning/afternoon! I'd like to ask the DIY lure makers what they use for coloring their plastisol for worms, grubs, curl tails; You name it! As the title suggest, I am a BIG fan of Roboworms; one of the best worms I've ever used. Just recently I created my own drop shot worm mold for me to test on. So far I've been buying cheap bulk packs of single color worms, de-oiling and de-salting them, melting them down and use them in my molds, but I am very limited to color choices I can buy. So here is my second question: Does anyone know what colorant brand Roboworm uses for their worms, or what brand of colorant will give me a somewhat transparent color instead of a solid color? I am in no way wanting to replicate Roboworm's Straight Tail Worm. These worms are for my personal use only and to experiment a bit with colors and techniques. I have just recently picked up plastic lure making in the last year and have been dabbling at it ever sense. Thank you and Calm Seas, my friends.
  9. I am looking for a cheap rod and i mean like 50 dollars ish. I received a free reel and it is the best reel I've ever owned actually and I want to throw it on a 7ft heavy action bait casting rod, unfortunately I can't afford much ( 50 dollars is a maybe but we will see) so I was wonder if anyone knows any place to get rods cheap. I know it probably will not be good quality but i have to deal with what I can get. Thank you in advance!
  10. Where I fish in the midwest, I've almost always used natural colors with texas or wacky rigged worms.. the usual greens, browns, or reddish browns. But digging through my pile of colors I don't use too often, I found some bags of bright pink, chartreuce, pure white, etc, all with one or two worms missing, and then the rest of the bag just sits there unusued. It occurs to me that this is because I've never caught a single fish on those weird colors. My question is, when or where would colors like that work? Of course the obvious answer is 'whenever the fish want it', but I've never once had the fish want those colors. Is there some combination of water clarity, temperature, or depth that would make goofy colors more useful than other times?
  11. Hi guys, This is my first post on here! A very exciting day for me since I've been using the site a lot before this and never being able to contribute. Anyways, I am 15 and jobless and looking for a spinning rod I can chuck some senkos on this summer. Preferably in the 40-60 ish price range, although some slight exceptions could be made. Also, the length and action should be about 6'6-7'0 and med extra fast. Some rods I have been looking at have been the Shimano Sellus, Fenwick Eagle and HMX, Berkley Lightning shock, and some BPS rods. Any help would be much appreciated! Thanks, and have a good day -Justen
  12. Has anyone here ever used a jig with a worm as a trailer? I've done this a few times after seeing a guy do it in a video. It surprisingly has produced some decent fish. I use a finesse jig with a trick worm trailer. Do any of you do this? -Payton
  13. I need a spinning setup specifically for weightless worms, wacky and t-rig mostly. What'd be the best weight line to buy for this setup? (I mostly use braid, but I'll take mono suggestions as well) Also, what'd be the best leader line weight? Also, while I'm at it, what reel would you suggest in the 50 dollar range?
  14. This might have been asked before on the forum, but let's here what you got. For me, time and time again....I catch more fish and have more confidence in a Zoom Magnum Ultravibe Speed Worm. Is it just me or is this worm overlooked as one of the best fish catchers there is? I love a green pumpkin, California 420 & Junebug Red with the tail dipped in Spike-it 90 % of the time. Let's here your go to plastic...I mean the one you find yourself picking up a bag or two every time your at the tackle store. And give a shout out if your a big U-Vibe fan like myself!
  15. Im an experienced socal saltwater angler but brand new to freshwater. I want to give freshwater a try because there is a lake close to my school so i could go there after school a few times a week. So far the freshwater gear i have bought is an abu garcia vengeance rod and black max baitcast reel. I also got a few sinkers, roboworms, senko worms, owner hooks for texas rig and carolina rig. And gamamatsu hooks to wacky rig the worms. Also got an all chrome super spook and a daiwa db minnow jerkbait. This was all sold to me(except rod and reel) from my local tackle shop. My question is basicly how to fish these and in what situation should i fish the following setups: wacky rig, texas rig, carolina rig and dropshot. When should i use one over the other? And what techniques should i use to fish these setups? I am hoping by the time i go this weekend and possibly even tomorrow i have enough info to at least have an idea of what i am doing and not just wing it. I will be fishing eldorado park lake if anyone can give me any tips about the lake. Thanks.
  16. How would you fish a 10.5 inch yum mightee worm? whats the best way to do it?
  17. My go-to bait is usually a spinnerbait but tonight I fished with soft plastics only and got "hooked" so to speak on them again. If for no other reason than they are tanks -- you can throw them anywhere without (much) worry. That and the sensitivity they afford are really great. I think I get more bites from them too...or at least can feel the bites I do get more. And, of course, they are way cheaper than the hard baits.
  18. Caught him on a worm and bobber. I'm just as surprised as you are. Just ate him an hour or two ago.
  19. Can I throw my soft plastic baits back in the bag with the rest of them or can I only use each one once.
  20. Im brand new to the idea of fishing soft plastics, ive always been a fan of crankbaits and topwater baits.. Im interested in learnig more about fishing soft plastics... What are some of the best soft plastic baits to use for largemouth? What is the best way to rig the best soft plastic?
  21. Hey everyone, I recently pulled out the fishing rod and tackle box and headed to a few local ponds in the area. I tried just about everything - topwater frogs, crankbaits, wacky rigged worms, live worms, etc. and didn't catch a single bass. I caught a couple sunfish but that's not what I'm aiming for. I was wondering what the best way to fish in this coldish (55-70 degree fahrenheit) is/what the best lures and baits are. I'm mainly fishing small ponds about 30 minutes north of Boston and don't own a boat. Any information helps, and thanks a lot for reading! Brian
  22. I favor the shaky head simply because I don't like to carry much with me and a shaky head is less stuff than a hook and weight. Do you find one works better than the other?
  23. I posted a similar topic earlier but now know more about my set-up. I need a line for my 6'6 medium power fast action spinning combo that will be used for wacky-worms and hard jerkbaits. I'm debating between 10-12lb. fluorocarbon, or 20 lb. braid with a fluoro leader. Keep in mind that here in Minnesota the lakes I fish are all dirty and stained. I don't really need invisibility so much as i need sinking line that wont screw up the wacky worms action. I'd was going with the 12 lb. fluoro but am worried it may be too heavy for wackies..any advice would be greatly appreciated.
  24. I'm looking for a spinning rod to pair with a pflueger president 6930 or 6935. I plan on only having one spinning combo in my yak so i need something pretty versatile. Something that will cover wacky worms, small texas rigs, spinnerbits 1/4 oz. and smaller, anything too small for a baitcaster. I know extra-fast action is best for wacky worming but will that be sufficient for small spinnerbaits? I'm thinking a meium power, would you suggest 6'6, 6'8, or 7'? I know I will either purchase an abu garcia veritas, st. croix mojo bass, or st. croix premier. Say I decided on the mojo bass, would the wacky worm or tubes and grubs model be best? I know this was a lot of questions so thank you to anyone who offers some help.
  25. Would you go with a 6.3:1 gear ratio or a 8.1:1 gear ratio for worm and jig fishing?
