  1. Hey BR, I decided to go fishing yesterday at the Nashua River since the weather is still like 45 degrees and the fish aren't spawning yet. I fished from 5 to 8 and, What a day! I caught 1 largie, 1 smallie, 1 perch, 1 crappie, 3 pickerel, 2 pumpkin seed, 20ish bluegills, and my first ever golden shiner! Now I know what they are eating! This was the best multi-species day I have ever had! Here are the pics! How many species have you caught in a day of fishing?
  2. Ok probably a really noob question, and a commons sense type thing, but as you all know boats are expensive and this being my first boat I am extra careful while learning handling and operation of a vessel. So if you have any other helpful informational tips please share below! (like which hole to plug with the drain plug don't worry i figured that one out, but to my surprise its no where in the manual or anywhere else lol. And the drain plug fits perfect into the other 3 holes in the transom) My question is regarding wind. I have a 2018 Bass Tracker 175txw, 17'7" in length with a 60hp merc and a 80b thrust MKFortrex. Being new to this whole boat thing what are some of your personal safety levels with regards to wind? On my home lake lewisville, winds can whip up into the 30s and get some legit white caps forming on the main body. But this is more of a broad question for all you experienced boaters, what are some techniques you use for boating during the wind? What are "no go" wind conditions for you? What would be a good recommendation for a new boater still learning the handling characteristics of his vessel? Bear in mind not "trolling motor control," I actually do have experience with that and I feel my fortrex can really manhandle the aluminum hull around quite nicely and hold a spot when I want to, but I'm talking more about when i have to access the main lake body to get back to the ramp or move spots etc..or even worse get caught in an east Texas storm. like always, thanks again for your input!
  3. I was wondering what are some lures y'all find are good on windy, overcast days?
  4. I've been planning my weekend fishing adventures the last few days, and I see the winds are going to be about 15 mph on one of my lakes at one point this weekend. I plan to give it a shot, planning to fish from the side of the lake where the wind is coming from - it's usually pretty good fishing down there - and I think I can stay safe from the wind. When looking at the forecasts before you guys plan a trip - what is the threshold for wind before you pull the plug on the trip and cancel your plans?
  5. Maybe someone here can help me.. I've tried to google but couldn't find the answer.. Ok so I went to take my wife fishing at a lake at a park and we seen that they rent jon boats and other types of boats for the lake. I asked about renting a jon boat with a trolling motor and I was told at the last time they checked the wind/water temperature that it was 81 and that the wind/water temperature had to = 100 for them to be able to let people rent boats.. Could anyone please explain to me how the wind/water temp works and why It stops us from renting a boat ?
  6. I know asking this is going to sound bad because all other states lakes are frozen over, but anyway in San Jose California it's been the driest and warmest winter in decades averaging out around 70 air temperature and it's been affecting the bass's willingness to feed. It's been hard to get a bite in this awkward temperature for this time of year. Because the bass think its winter but it really is more like spring so what I'm really asking is how can it locate fish easily and what lures should I use. Thank you, Anything helps Ps sorry for bad punctuation I'm doing this on my phone
  7. I fish this huge pond at my hometown, and I learn something new about these fish every month to create the right pattern. Today I was stumped though, because I could not get the bass to bite to save my life. i noticed that the wind was coming from the northeast about 10 mph, and i tried to follow the wind but to no avail. i spooked two bass hiding in the weeds on the bank, and i threw a finesse worm, spinnerbait, swimbait, texas rigged junebug zoom u tail, and a carolina rig with a u tail. no bites. the only bite i had the bass nipped at it and pulled my worm from the hook. from the left side of the pond is shallow 4-5 feet to the end which is a rock quarry is deep 12-20 ft. did the bass go deep because of the north wind? i fished today 9-17-2013.
