  1. Hey guys, I'm new to the forum and happy to be here! Last year I obtained a 87 Bass Tracker Tournament TX which I'm stoked about because its the first boat I've ever owned(not considering canoes and kayaks). It came with a depth finder, trailer and 50lb trolling motor but no engine... reason why I'm posting. I've been out in a local pond just trolling around and I really like the boat but now that I'm ready to buy a engine for it and get to some real water I need some help. Not looking for my hand to be held I just need to be pointed in the right direction because none of my family or friends know enough to help and like I said... this is my first boat so I know NOTHING about this world. I'm in the used market. I know the boat is rated for a 90hp but here in NC I am having a hard time coming by a decent one or really a 90 at all because I would like to max out for what it's rated for. Through my troubles I've started to look for smaller engines but my big question is how small can I go before the engine is overloaded trying to push this 17' aluminium boat? I'm in a few facebook groups and I saw one guy with the exact same boat with a 40hp on his and I wanted to ask him how it pushes it but cant find it again. Also does anyone know if going over the rated hp creates issues with registration or legal issues? I see a ton of 115hp engines on craigslist and I'd totally do that but I don't want to violate anything. Thanks a lot for any responses guys, it's like pulling teeth to learn anything about this just by asking people I know.

  4. I live just outside of the city in the DFW area and I was wondering if anyone had any advice on lakes within an hour or so of Fort Worth or Denton? i do shore fishing primarily but my family is looking at buying a joe boat and I myself am looking at getting a kayak with a trailer before it starts warming up next year! So lakes or ponds that have good spots relatively close to launch points and even lakes would be fantastic. I have looked at a couple of forum maps but after going to look for a non-existent pond that was on the map I kind of lost faith in them.. Any advice or current and good maps are greatly appreciated!
  5. Howdy guys! A friend and I went fishing Gibbons Creek Reservoir this past weekend (Friday and Saturday), and I decided to get a little early spring fishing report out about it. Overall, the fishing was very slow, we only landed about 9 fish over the two days (with a couple others that threw the hook before we got them in the boat). It was very windy both days, with sustained winds about 20 mph and gusts up to 30 mph. Early in day one, my friend landed a very nice largemouth that we ballparked around 8 lbs (scale's battery was dead). That really got our hopes up, but it would be the biggest fish of our trip by far. That big one was caught with a T-rigged trick worm, but for the most part we couldn't get bites on plastics. As for quantity of bites, spinnerbaits did the best for us (chartreuse and orange/white). Crankbaits also caught a couple fish. As a whole, this weekend was more of an example why the sport is called 'fishing' rather than 'catching'. However, a slow day on the water beats any day sitting at home! It was also disappointed that half of the lake was very difficult because of stumps just below the surface of the water. We didn't even try to get back there because we didn't want to risk damaging the boat.
