  1. Hi everyone, Just started fishing at a new lake called Lake Chabot in the Oakland area and was wondering what you guys have had success on in that lake specifically or if you have any tips when fishing a new lake. It is a relatively large lake with deepish water in certain areas. Stocked with trout but has bass and catfish as well. Thanks for the help!
  2. I have a couple of really large baits that I really want to use, but I'm really intimidated by them. I'm referring specifically to the Spro BBZ-1 Rat, the Lucky Craft Real Ayu and Bluegill, and the Spro BBZ-1 jr. They are the largest and heaviest lures I own. The rod and reel I use are a 7'9 Cabela's swimbait rod rated for 1-4 oz., and an Abu Garcia Ambassadeur STX 5600 spooled with 65lb Suffix braid. I love the rod and reel when I'm using smaller baits such as the 5" Castaic BD Shad and Keitech swing impact fats. When I tie the heavier lures on, it feels like the the rod cant handle it, and I'm afraid to make a hard cast. I haven't heard anything bad about the BBZ-1 Rat but yet I'm too intimidated to use the d**n thing. Does anyone have any advice they can give me on how to approach the big baits?
  3. Going out this weekend to a local pond. The ice is thinning dramatically but the water is still super cold. I'm not sure where the fish are or what bait to throw. Any suggestions? I might have access to a boat depending on ice.
  4. I may be going down to Carlyle Lake in a couple weeks and I would like to know what the bass are biting on and where they are at. I know this will change by the time I get there but I want to have an idea of what I'm coming up against. I will also have access to a boat . Past experiences, comments, and opinions about Carlyle Lake are good too. Thank you.
  5. Ive only been fishing for a few months now and needed some tips. As we all know fishing in the heat of the day is almost impossible. Ive caught a few Bass and am learning quickly where, when, and how to fish for them but really wanted some tips on night fishing for bass. I usually stick to a plastic worm on a Texas rig and that has worked out well. Recently purchased a black jitterbug for top water but never know when to pull it out. Also just picked up a spinner bait as well. Can i effectively use the spinner bait at night? Any tips would be gladly appreciated on what lures to use and how to catch more bass at night. Thanks!!
  6. My club is holding the state qualifier this weekend on lake springfeild. June 29th, im looking to win this thing. any information on spots, or what to use would be greatly appreciated. I already have a good idea of where I want to start. last kid that won it fished the dam with a carolina rig sametime of year. although conditions might be different. i am going to focus my efforts on the north part of the main lake since the depth averages out at 25ft. On the north side of the bridge there is a sharp point that deserves some attention and on the south a sea wall. In the morning ill probably work the shallows with a topwater, a walking bait of some sort. as the sun comes up i was going to slow down with a jig or a plain texas rigged chigger on a 3/8 ounce tungsten. i know i can pick up fish on the docks, sea walls, and brush piles. but im looking for the qaulity fish after i pick up a quick limit. should i head to the dam? im very confused, i have alot of ideas but im not sure what i should do. this is all the information ive gathered. please help!
