  1. Question 1: I just installed new G4N units to replace my G3N units, and an Ulterra with built in MDI+ Helix 15 MSI+ G4N CHO up front. Helix 12 MSI+ G4N at the console MSI+ transducer at the transom. I want to run the MDI+ and 2D for the Helix 15 off the Ulterra's built in transducer, but I don't see it as an option in the Network Source tab. **************************** Question 2: I'd like to take advantage of the G4N's built in NMEA capability. I run a 2005 Johnson 140 4 stroke, same motor as a Suzuki DF 140. I can see how to turn everything on in the menus, but I don't know how to connect to the motor. I am digging through the manuals this evening, but any help is appreciated.
  2. I'm thinking about putting my transducer on my trolling motor for deep water fishing and finding that underwater cover. I fish a lot in small marsh channels running aground with my trolling motor. I'm thinking of mounting it on my trolling motor but spinning it to the top of the trolling motor when I go shallow. Does anyone suggest doing that? Otherwise, talk me out of it.
  3. Hi guys, here comes my first post here, just after taking out the striker 9sv for the first time and managed to damage the gt52 ducer :(...hit some net, ducer got to the propeller and that was it. Shell is not cracked although the pic suggests that, what looks like cracks are just the plastic cut leftovers. Ok...now here's what the sonar image looks like after the accident (apologies for the blur due to moisture+screen protection film): So the left SI is obviously affected and displayed in red + some noise in the right SI water column, although bottom structures are detected and displayed correctly on both sides (!) Classic sonar/downview seem unaffected. Now the question is: do you think those scratches alone can result in this malfunctioning, or is it rather the internals (crystal, piezos) affected as a result of the accident? To my limited knowledge, these transducer internals are completely immersed in the hard filling inside the case, thus protected. But briefly looking at the overall Garmin build quality, although this unit costs 600 euros, I must mention a cheap plastic feeling and not so much of a bulletproof impression. Any feedback from similar issues, advice, admonishment etc. is appreciated Thanks and regards, /Adrian
  4. I’m needing some help determining what the problem is with my unit. I have 2 helix 7 si chirp gps g2 units. My unit at my console was working fine then I put a Terrova on my boat and had to add a third battery. I’m not sure if there is electrical noise in the power to my unit or what’s going on but the unit started showing junk in the first ten feet of my down imaging. If I speed up to like 5mph it will go away, but if I slow down then the junk re appears. I thought the transducer was messed up so I swapped them out with the transducer on my other unit that I had and it shows the same thing. I thought the electrical noise was in my transducer so I put my boat in the water and plugged my spare transducer in, ran the wire on the deck instead of running it beside all the other wires to eliminate any noise, and put that transducer right beside the mounted transducer and it showed this same thing. I’ve called humminbird, they haven’t helped me. They aren’t sure. I have the most updated software and that didn’t help. If anyone has any idea what could be going on and has any suggestions please let me know, it will be much appreciated!!
  5. This is gonna be a lot, but i appreciate any advise/help that is given. Originally on my boat i had a Lowrance HDS 7 Gen 2 touch at the console, and at the front i didn't have anything. Well, Cabelas/BPS recently had a sale on 9" Elite Ti units that came with a Totalscan transducer, and a navionics chip. So i picked one up and took my boat to the shop to get it installed. So i got it back yesterday, and i'm having some issues. I put the new Elite 9 Ti on the bow, and its hooked up to an HDI transducer at the trolling motor. I left the HDS 7 Gen 2 where it was (Console), and got him to put the Totalscan transducer at the back of the boat. The total scan is hooked up directly to the HDS. I also got him to connect both units via NMEA 2000 Network cable. Now to the issues/questions, 1. When i go to sonar, or structure on the HDS it doesn't register the depth and the sonar screen and the structure screen are blank. I went to Settings>Sonar>Installation and tried to set the transducer to Totalscan but Totalscan isn's in the list. I thought this may be due to connection issue with the cable, but then i saw where it was registering the water temp so the transducer is fine and is connected fine. Any ideas here? 2. Is there a way to view Structure Scan from the Totalscan transducer on the Elite Ti? The Totalscan transducer isn't directly connected to the Elite Ti, but that is why i got the network. I thought it would make everything connect. Anybody know if this is possible? 3. Last question, The Elite 9 Ti came with a navionics chip (Navionics US/CAN+). I put it in my HDS because that's where i will be using it mostly. But i saw online last night that you would only need 1 chip for both units. Is this true? If so how do i do this? i tried changing the source on my Elite 9 Ti to Navionics, but it didn't work. (Chip is in HDS) I know this is alot, but i'm kinda lost right now and would love some advise. I paid a good chunk for the depth finder + Install. I would hate to have to spend more. Thanks to all who reply. I really appreciate it!
  6. Good Day to everyone, I am new to these forums and look forward to a lot of great discussion. In the next week or so I will get my profile completed! Anyway, I was googling information about transducer mounting location and came across this website. I just bought a 1990 Champion 201 DCR bass boat with a 200hp mercury optimax outboard, I upgraded to a Raymarine fish finder and from what I understand, in order to properly use down/side imaging you shouldn't use a thru-hull transducer. It would be awesome to have everything work at speed but would at least like the depth to show without cutting out. Speed will come through GPS and the imaging isn't important at high speed really.... I will get pics up later of the back of my boat, it is stepped as most bass boats are. Just wanting it to read reliably at speed, any info helps as I am a rookie when it comes to bass boats!
  7. im trying to snake the transducer wires (sonar and structure) from transom to console.. there is a cord already at the console that im trying to use to pull my wires through. but it gets stuck at the same spot every time no matter how hard i pull or shake the wires. boat is an 88 ranger 390v. should i try and run a fishtape through a different route or keep trying to pull? after 2.5 hours of trying to fish cable through i have got nothing... i did more research and im going to try and remove the seat and maybe look for an access panel in the storage compartment..
  8. I am looking for a GPS/GLONASS fishfinder and a transducer. My purpose is a bit on the unorthodox side. I work for a small civil engineering firm that assesses and and designs countermeasures for bridges. Many of our sites are over substantial rivers such as the Rio Grande and Colorado River. The overall goal is to be able to get accurate depth measurements from the transducer that will be logged in a gps unit. The setup will be on a small fishing boat and we will run cross sections upstream and downstream of the structure to get a representation of the channel. We are looking for a transducer with a narrow cone angle in order to get an accurate depth measurement. We also need a gps fishfinder that will log our location and depth as we move through the channel. Any help in selecting the proper equipment would be highly appreciated.
  9. Hey guys I currently have a JK Big Tuna and I want to add a fish finder to it. I think that I'm going to pick up a Garmin Striker 7sv. I plan on using it on both the kayak and my friends jon boat. I want to use a Ram Transducer Arm so that I can switch back and forth from both boats, but I don't think that the transducer will mount properly to the arm. The transducer number is GT52HW-TM. It is similar in shape to the Lowrance LSS but is not exactly the same. Does anyone have ideas about how I could get this to work or how I could rig up a transportable system that will get the transducer deep enough in the water for the sidevu to work properly??
  10. Hey guys, Im planning on mounting the new structure scan transducer as well as the skimmer for my HDS 9. I purchased a Transducer Mounting plate( 4"x 12") to mount the transducers to the back of my 2005 Bass Tracker . I understand the Structure scan transducer must be mounted above the skimmer, but i don't know the best area to screw in the mounting plate! Advice please! I attached a picture below of the back of the boat to show the areas i could mount it.
  11. HELP! Recently lost my transducer for my Bottom Line Tournament Master HR. This gadget had "sidefinder" capability and Bottom Line was bought out by Johnson/Humminbird and do not support the Bottom Line product. (probably because they want to sell you their Humminbird finders.) If anyone knows where I can buy a replacement Transducer for this fish finder please contact me. I have been using the sidefinder with great success but the parts are hard to find anywhere! The transducer is a MULTIVIEW Transducer and mountable on a trolling motor or stern.
  12. Hey guys, After having issues with the mounting of my Elite 4 HDI transducer on my Jackson Cuda 12, I finally found a solution that works..for now. It wasn't my idea since I found it online, but it worked out really well and just thought I'd share with you all. Since there is already an existing skid plate, I just had to fabricate a bracket to mount to the skid plate and transducer. Then I got the chance to try it out on the water yesterday and it seems to work and hold up. It's the easiest and most convenient solution I could come up with for now so we will see how it holds up over time. Let me know what you guys think. Here is the original link/post for reference: http://jacksonkayak.com/blog/2013/10/07/jackson-cuda-skid-plate-transducer-mount-fabrication/ Here is also another project I got done over the weekend. Kayak crate that doubles as a cart as well!
  13. Hi everyone, I'm looking into the elite 4x HDI, I can buy it for $169.99 w/ a 83/200 transducer or i can spend $199.99 and get the 83/200 455/800 transducer. I was looking for some insight on the pros and cons of both and wanted to know if the +$30.00 is worth it. I fish small ponds and lakes ranging in depth from 5'-50' Thanks
  14. I'm scheming up a way to mount a transducer on my Ascend 128T that's flush with the hull's bottom. Anyone out there use a 4x3" plumbing flange & cap? Thanks, in advance, for your 2-cents.
  15. I am thinking about buying the Lowrance Elite 4x sonar version. No DI or anything just the color sonar version. Does anybody know if you can mount the transducer that it comes with inside the hull?
  16. Alright so I'm looking to get a cheaper fishfinder. One that is accurate with depth, structure, temperature, etc etc. I'm just looking for a fishfinder, not a chartplotter and what not. I have heard some pretty good things about Garmin fishfinders, and for the price I'm def. leaning towards it compared to Lowrance and Humminbird. What do you guys think of Garmin's and more importantly the Garmin Echo 500c. For the price ($250) it has a 5in screen, which is appealing to me, as i was looking at smaller screens in similar price by the two big manufacturers. So yeah if you could give me your opinions on Garmins and the one I'm looking at. Also you can give me some info on other fishfinders if you don't like the Garmin. Thanks
  17. I am looking to purchase a Garmin Echo 150 Dual Beam FishFinder and am looking for any and all tips/advice on mounting the transducer in the hull of my kayak. I have an Ascend FS-10 kayak so I have a nice "console" to mount the unit on. I am looking for tips/advice in terms of properly mounting the transducer so that I do not receive poor/false readings. Additionally, I am looking for any advice you could offer on how to store or mount the battery as well to conserve space, reduce interference and not slide around inside the hull. If you can point me in the direction of any other threads that already covered this topic that would be greatly appreciated as well. Thanks!
