  1. So I am looking to buy my first real boat (not a Jon) and have decided on tracker as my brand of choice. I have narrowed it down to the Pro 170 or Pro 175 TXW. Both fit my needs as far as person capacity and both are geared towards bass fishing. I'm not really sure if the 175 is worth the extra cost, my budget allows for the 170 pretty easily but the 175 is a bit on the high side of my budget. I fish mainly small rivers in my area and the largest lake I will be fishing in is Lake Gaston. The only other uses my family will use the boat for is me and the wife and kids just going out for a swim or maybe some tubing / knee boarding. I will use the boat not only for Largemouth but also Striper fishing in the winter (I live on the coast so my rivers carry lots of large Stripers at certain times of the season. Firstly has anyone had any real experience with tracker boats and how were they? Secondly is the 175 worth the jump in price? Tracker 170 Tracker 175 Thanks for any opinions in advance, -Jeff
  2. Has anyone ran wires to the front of a Tracker Pro 170? I am looking to mount a couple lights to the front, next to the trolling motor, and was curious what the best way to get the power up there is. Thanks
  3. Hello, I'm looking to purchase a Tracker 1542 Jon Boat. For one of my local lakes, I want to be able to go under a bridge that sits pretty low to the water. Before I purchase, I want to be sure that won't be a problem. For those of you who own this boat, do you know how high it sits above the water? Any help would be greatly appreciated.
  4. Hey I bought a 1997 panfish that didn’t have a livewell. Been looking for a replacement mostly for the extra seat and the storage room, but to use for live bait and such. Does anyone know where I could get one
  5. Hi, I was wondering if anyone had any feedback on these boats. Currently I am using/borrowing my brothers 14ft flat bottom john boat but want to get a boat of my own. We put the decks, carpet, rebuilt the outboard etc, so I am not afraid to a little work. I dont plan on doing any major tournaments maybe just a few small club run ones. I fish in the Occoquan reservior 99.9% of the time with the occasional trip to the Occoquan River. The max hp for the reservoir is 9.9 and the majority of the river is a no wake zone so motor size isnt really an issue. Any input would be great! Thanks!
  6. Hello Everyone I just got a close up of the 2018 Tracker 40th anniversary boat Wondering how everyone felt about this boat Kind of like to retro look I already own a grizzly tracker and this would be the same hull but better motor and more comfort. Thanks for any opinoins Mike
  7. Hey guys, I'm new to the forum and happy to be here! Last year I obtained a 87 Bass Tracker Tournament TX which I'm stoked about because its the first boat I've ever owned(not considering canoes and kayaks). It came with a depth finder, trailer and 50lb trolling motor but no engine... reason why I'm posting. I've been out in a local pond just trolling around and I really like the boat but now that I'm ready to buy a engine for it and get to some real water I need some help. Not looking for my hand to be held I just need to be pointed in the right direction because none of my family or friends know enough to help and like I said... this is my first boat so I know NOTHING about this world. I'm in the used market. I know the boat is rated for a 90hp but here in NC I am having a hard time coming by a decent one or really a 90 at all because I would like to max out for what it's rated for. Through my troubles I've started to look for smaller engines but my big question is how small can I go before the engine is overloaded trying to push this 17' aluminium boat? I'm in a few facebook groups and I saw one guy with the exact same boat with a 40hp on his and I wanted to ask him how it pushes it but cant find it again. Also does anyone know if going over the rated hp creates issues with registration or legal issues? I see a ton of 115hp engines on craigslist and I'd totally do that but I don't want to violate anything. Thanks a lot for any responses guys, it's like pulling teeth to learn anything about this just by asking people I know.
  8. Hello everyone. I need a little help. I found a 2017 175 TF locally. It was purchased in August 2016 and is now for sale. I think the price is decent (about 13k). All original with cover and 60 Merc. Checked it out and I don't see a mark on it. Before I lay down the dough I asked the current owner if we could put it in the water to make sure everything is operational (and it doesn't sink). She doesn't know anything about boats (it was her late husband's boat), nor does she know how to operate one. Anyway, other than starting the motor and checking the bilge/pumps, what else do you recommend I look at closely? It has sat for a bit, and I haven't owned a boat for about 15 years, so as they say, 'you don't know the things that you don't know.' I have read other posts here on the topic of things to check, but I was specifically wondering if there is anything specific to the Tracker I should be concerned about, and to freshen the topic. Thanks in advance! On a side note, the warranty is transferable. I inquired with Tracker and I would be required to submit the boat to a dealer for inspection (1-200$) and then apply for the warranty transfer with Tracker (another 100$). The local dealer (Bass Pro Shops) has a 3 week waiting period/backlog. No appointments, drop off the boat and wait 3 weeks. Plus, the transfer has to take place within 30 days of my purchase. Ugh. It would be nice if I could just get them to inspect the boat before I purchase it, but no dice. I only mention this in case anyone is wondering about the process. There wasn't much info on the 'net about it.
  9. First time posting in a while! [edit: I guess this is my first post under this name! all of my other posts came from the alias Castamasta] I might be the most excited I have been for fishing in a long time. Primarily because i will have my first boat! But, as the title of this forum explains, it is a small jon boat...........still a boat though! First, I wanted to see what you guys have done with your smaller jon boats. Especially with regards to how you rigged your electronics and organized your batteries. I know there is the thread with "show your ride", but I wanted this to be solely smaller craft / jon. Second, id like some input on what I am currently thinking of doing for my configuration from all your small boaters / jon boaters out there. Any advice (even if it is..."come on man, get a bigger boat!") is welcome! Here is what I am working with: tracker 1232 riveted jon (http://www.trackerboats.com/boat/specs.cfm?boat=3829) two 12V batteries 2x battery box 55 lb minn kota trolling motor humminbird helix 5 si gps 3 amp fuse 2 x rotating foam seats w bench clamps 1 x bait monkey Concerns / inexperience: Weight balance - I am thinking of putting one battery in the mid section of the boat and one in the back to balance the weight a bit. Do you guys see this as necessary due to how small the boat is? I want to be clean with cable management, but there aren't too many locations to hide the wires (just stuff it in the box is what I am thinking). Wondering if this baby will sink if I put two people in it.....from the specs it kind of seems that that will be the case. Battery charging - I am thinking of buying one of the portable chargers for like $60 at bass pro. Anything that I could put on board that someone would recommend? Ideally, I would want to just keep the batteries in place and be able to run an extension cord to my boat to charge the batteries, but that seems expensive ($150).....but kinda worth it. Transducer mounting - If I am going to be using the trolling motor as my main thrust, I was thinking that a TM mount would not be ideal due to how much error steering will cause. Is this the correct thinking? Instead, I was going to get some silicone sealant and just drill the transducer right into the transom and seal it up. Other option would be to suction cup it....which might be good as well. Again, I want to see what you guys have out there first, so I can potentially steal some ideas. if you can steer me in the right direction with some of the stuff i have outlined above, that would be great too! Thanks, Casta
  10. Am i debating on prop driven or jet driven? Seriously considering the BassTracker Pro 170. Not 100% on bass trackers. I am open to any other recommendations on boats. I will be fishing decent sized lakes here in New Jersey, the Delaware river, and the Susquehanna river. Any advice? What is the difference between the two?
  11. Hey guys / gals, I am looking for a trailer to haul around the 12 ft tracker I just purchased. I was thinking I should ask around the forums prior to going out and purchasing one! Let me know if you have one you would be willing to let go / sell! Thanks, Castamasta
  12. I'm looking at buying my first boat and have been looking at used Tracker 175 TXW with 50-60hp. However, I just found a close by 2008 Avalanche with a Mercury Nitro 150 EFI. This has a lot more to offer than the 175 TXW as far as things I know I'd want upgraded sooner rather than later - 24V 70lb TM, bigger motor etc. i haven't seen the Avalanche before and so far not finding much info on them. However, the limited info I do find seems very positive. Anyone have any thoughts on these? Anything I should look for when I go see it? Both boats are basically the same asking price $10,000 and same year. The Avalanche has 250 hours on the motor. thanks
  13. I am looking at getting a Deep V boat. I live on a rough lake and have a hard time in a bass boat with my knees and back. I thought about a center console but have decided I like the layout of Deep V boats better. For those of you who live up north and have them please explain what made you choose the brand you have. Tracker, Lowe, G3, Alumicraft, and Crestliner all have dealers in Texas. Lund does not have one anywhere within 500 miles of me. I would like to keep my boat between 20-30K rigged. Thanks for all your help and knowledge. Chad
  14. So I have owned 2 16ft bass boats and a 21ft bass boat in my life. I fished more often out of the 16ft because the ease of use. I hated launching and operating the 21ft by myself. But I am now looking at buying a boat again. I am stuck between the Pro-Guide V175 and the Targa 18. does the 1.5ft of difference make that much difference on ride stability and operation? Any advice or thoughts welcome as long as you are not bashing the tracker brand. Thank you
  15. Hey all, first post here as I attempted this thread on another forum without much luck. I do believe after spitballing ideas and with what I'd like completed I'd opted to go ahead and remove the deck, despite my mechanic's recommending me not to. I recently purchase a 2009 Tracker Pro 160. Ideally, I'd like to place a recessed tray for the trolling motor pedal in addition to mounting a Humminbird 859CI at the bow. I'm still on the fence on the RAM mount or the Kickin bass bracket. In any normal circumstance this would be fairly straightforward as I'd just remove the panel at the bow. However with this model, the panel is completely welded and inaccessible. That being said, I'd lean towards removing the deck to evaluate what's underneath and to confirm there is sufficient space. I'd also like to locate an appropriate drain position. Once this is done, I'd replace the deck as it were once the sonar wiring was placed. Once the installations are ready (later in the winter), I'd make my markings and cut the tray hole. Ideally I'd like to use the tray hole as my "access hatch" so that I have access to the graph wires without removing the deck every time. I can decide on the mount at some point later on, but will likely land on whatever mount grants me more deck space. At this point I'm hoping to have everything finished cleanly without any exposed wiring, etc. That said, I've searched high and low on the web and on forums as well. I seem to be the only nut to inquire about modifications on this little Pro 160. Any experiences, recommendations, or advice would be greatly appreciated. My biggest concern at this point is the actual deck removal. Not sure if this will be easy or difficult. I'll likely plan on marking all the screws on the deck tomorrow and possibly lifting the front deck. I'll be documenting everything so hopefully this can help someone down the road.
  16. Hey guys, just joined the forum for some help! I'm currently redoing a bass tracker tx17. Everything has been going smooth and it is now completely gutted and the floors are being replace. The problem is, the previous owner left the wiring a mess! Two 12v batteries are used to power the trolling motor and a single cranking battery is used for the engine/bilge/aerator and now that i have it gutted, i want to change some wiring. First i want to add two lowrance hds units with direct power to a battery and add a stereo. What kind of batter/batteries do i need, and what should i run to them?? Thanks, Matt.
  17. Can anyone tell me what steering cable i need to get for my 89' Bass Tracker 1600 TF? I looked on the cable but the printing in on the side that i can not see. I tried calling Bass Pro but they do not have a parts listing for the boat. Thank You Brian Heagren
  18. Hey guys, I just recently decided to redo my bass tracker. I ordered two lowrance has touch 9 and the sonic hub system. The wiring in my boat is very confusing due to the previous owners inexperience and i need some advice! Currently there are three batteries(two for trolling motor and one for engine). I want to run direct power to my systems with a toggle switch. What kind of battery do i need and how, if i should, can i change how my batteries are set up now? Thanks, Matt.
  19. Hello All, My grandfather passed away last March and I've been given the opportunity to purchase his beloved 1995 Tracker Pro 17. I've got many memories fishing with him, so when his daughters asked all the cousins if anybody was interested, i jumped at the chance!!! That being said, the boat is in PERFECT condition, it's always been stored indoors when not in use, no leaking issues, my father is a mechanic and has maintained the motor. It's go the Merc 40 motor, which I know isn't going to win any drag races....and i'm okay with that. Anyway, just wanted to stop in and introduce myself, super excited to get back into fishing. I live in hattiesburg, so whoever of you know of some sweet honey holes....lemme know.
  20. My dad has a 17' bass tracker; it needs new carpet. I was wondering how much (in general) it would cost to have a boat dealer recarpet it? I am wondering the price of doing that versus time, effort, difficulty and cost of doing it myself. Thanks The boat looks similar to this
  21. I am a senior in highschool and i'm workin 40 hours each week to save for my first boat. i have decided that for me at the time an aluminum is the way to go. I wont be fishing alot of tournaments so speed and things are not a big difference. ive been fishing every weekend on tournaments as a co angler. This boat is going to be my "learning boat". I want to learn alot on the water and become good with what i have before i spend the big bucks. I am set on buying a brand new Tracker boat. im stuck however between a 165, 170 or a 175 tracker. i know that the the bigger i go the better the storage and deckroom. But the affordability of the 165 attracts me. because im putting a set amount of each paycheck aside each month until i get a down payment big enough for half of the boat price. My patience sucks so i know that i can get the 165 a faster. and then i can put higher quality electronics on it. I'm just asking for everyones advice. I am all ears and want nothing to do but learn.
  22. Well folks, the other day I installed my new wheels, getting rid of some old rusty cheapos for some nice new aluminum bling... needed new tires and it wasnt much more. Anyhow, in the process I felt a problem, grease on the inside of the rim aka a blown rear seal. I have been trying to no avail since last summer to find out what bearings these hubs took. First things first, this is the older hub, one with bolts instead of studs/lug nuts. I decided these are going goodbye as theyre a nightmare for doing maintance. Anyhow back to my story. I called tracker they told me they didnt know, I called other dealers and they didnt know. The only way to find out was to pull the whole hub. Today, I pulled the hubs to get measurements and order new hub assemblies, the entire package. First I pulled the bearings out to look for numbers, these bearings must be originals because the numbers are gone. Thankfully I used to be a machinist and out came the dial calipers. This is a strait spindle, not tapered, both the same size bearing inner and outer. 1.063" is the inside diameter which cross references to bearing L44649. If you have a trailstar near this age I would say Im pretty certain this is what you have as well. Now that my new ones are on the way I will order the single kit from BPS in the near future to get the carrying box as their replacement hub is these exact measurements. Ill keep it in my car incase of breakdown. Ive been left sitting in the middle of nowhere via a bearing failure and its not fun. So... regardless of what trailer you have check your seals this spring, check your grease and if you need it rebuild your hubs. Its one of the easiest things to do there is and takes common hand tools. If you own a flat head screw driver, lug wrench and a hammer you can do this yourself very quickly. Please note that my trailer doesnt have brakes but I wouldnt think that would be much harder just a few extra steps.
  23. Hey I had a question about buying a bass tracker. I am just getting out of high school and looking to get a boat for bfl and team tournaments. I am looking at the 2013 pro team 165 and 175. I am paying for the boat myself so i am limited on cash. I am not really worried about speed because the lake that i fish are not huge so i dont think that will hurt me that much. I am more worried about live wells. The pro team 165 only had a 15 gallon live well. Do you think that i could fit two 5 bass limits in a 15 gallon live well for 8 hours. I am from ohio so there are not even that many 5 bass limits. The reason i am not buying a used boat is that i want the 5 year warrarnt just in case something would happen. also the pro team 165 does not have divided live wells is there any thing i can buy to divid them? I just cant decied between the two boats. The 165 or 175. Any help or suggestions would be very helpful. Thanks
