  1. I’ve been building and repairing my own equipment for a little over a year and with all this time on my hands waiting to return to work I’ve picked up a a little extra cash doing repairs and upgrades for friends and family. A friend of a friend recently contacted me about building him a rod so it looks like I’ve picked up my first client. I started out with minimal equipment... the $80 MudHole kit with the cardboard hand wrapper, CRB rod dryer, basic tools, and one extra stand. It’s definitely done the job for me while I was learning, but it’s time to get some better equipment. I’ve upgraded a lot of my tools, but I’m wanting to get a new hand wrapper setup and a new dryer and stands. Something that I can use with a power wrapper if I decide to get one down the line. What are your recommendations? Thanks in advance for any advice. UPDATE.... Looking at the Batson line of equipment. Anyone have experience with their hand wrapper? And is the dryer any good?
  2. Boat Tool Box suggestions Philips screwdriver Flat blade screwdriver Pliers average size Vise-grips Channellock Pliers 10" Crescent Wrench 10" Small wrench set Wire cutters / side cutters Spark plug wrench Voltmeter / test light Prop wrench Flashlight with Xtra batteries (also a flashlight app is pretty good as a backup) Knife Jump box Wooden block cut at an angle (section of 4 X 4) Wire brush (to clean corroded connections) Duct tape Electrical tape Plastic cable ties / Zip ties Spare Prop Spare Prop Nut Spare Kill Switch cord Spare drain plug A piece of stainless steel wire about 36" long 6" of fuel hose Hose clamps Spark plugs Assortment electrical connectors This is not to be mistaken for a Medical Emergency Kit ! The list above I do not take credit for as the members here and some input from researching the internet helped to create it. My original post starts below this line ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Ok since I now have a boat that I feel confident in taking miles out on the water I am interested in knowing what basic tools should a boat have on it. Now mind you my boat is no yacht so I don't need a full blown rollaway. I just want what a typical experienced guy with a 115 Johnson outboard on a 18ft bass boat would carry. So let's hear what you carry and what you carry your tools in. Don't laugh my tools are not probably correct this is why I am asking. But so far I have : 1 Philips screwdriver average size 1 Flat blade screwdriver average size 1 Crescent wrench 8" I believe 1 Pliers average size Thanks for sharing
  3. How many times have we landed a fish and then looked around the deck for the needle-nosed pliers or hook extractor and they’re nowhere in sight? And then there are the line clippers, hook sharpeners, forceps, or whatever you have hanging around your neck, in your pockets, or clipped to your clothing - that should be there but aren’t. It can be a real pain in the arce at times; especially if you stuff the wrong thing in the back pocket of your jeans. I have seen tool caddy’s on seat pedestals that have compartments for various tools and fish attractants; and I’ve seen these tools go flying while running and gunning through rough water; I’ve also seen anglers wearing tool belts on their hips like a telephone or electrical technicians. But what really works under most conditions? Question: What tools do you use the most, and how do you organize them so they’re handy when needed?
