  1. I’m looking to get a new spinning rod and I want it to be a TWO PIECE that I can hike/travel/kayak with but also use as my main spinning set-up. I’m looking for something ML or M that’s versatile. I’ve narrowed it down to the Tatula and the Premier. I like both for different reasons and I’m just looking for peoples pros and cons for both. I put the Tatula XT in brackets in the title because I can’t seem to find anyone talking about the actual hardware differences between the Tatula Proper and the XT. There’s a few other brands/models I’m looking at so I could be swayed, BUT it has to be at Cabela’s/Bass Pro because I have gift cards. THANKS IN ADVANCE!
  2. I've been looking for a reel primarily for freshwater, mostly bass but the occasional salt water. I just want a reel that is durable and enough to be worth the money. I have looked at some of the DC reels like the curado, slx and scorpion but ive been wondering if I need the chip. I am unsure if the chip will restrict distance or if it is worth the price. I have also been looking at JDM reels like the SLX DC 71 but do not know how durable they are compared to the curados. It is a concern that there is no warranty and that they are not as easy to repair with parts. I am primarily a bank fisherman so I want to know if the 70 spool size will be enough. Is the I-DC-5 worth getting the JDM vs the I-DC-4? I am an intermediate baitcaster user so I am wondering if I need the DC to help reduce backlashes and also skip lures. (This is one of my weak points) The Tatula I have hard great things about especially when it comes to skipping, but I am concerned about the durability and how smooth it is compared to the Curado. I also do not want a reel that is only good for skipping. I will be pairing whatever reel I decide to get with a Dobyns Fury 734C which Ive heard runs light. I know its a lot so basically: Need a durable, somewhat salt resistant reel An all rounder Left retrieve Under $300 Are DC models worth it? Are JDM models a risky purchase? Are JDM models worth it? Is a 70 size spool enough to hold the amount of line that I need? Is the Curado MGL a good purchase or is the Tatula better? I fish mostly 3/8 ounce lures and above Senkos weighted and unweighted I am a intermediate level angler when it comes to baitcasters Any answers would be appreciated and I am open to suggestions on different reels.
  3. i have had my daiwa tatula ct 100hs for less than a month now and after using it in heavy rain for 1 day. I also used it in salty conditions in a bay but washed it off straight after. Is there a chance that it rusted or something got in the gears? Ive checked the spool and side plate but im afraid to open the reel side plate for fear of losing pieces or not putting it back together correctly. Is it easy to take apart the plates and reassemble?
  4. To start off I’m a stats nerd in spinning reels. I tend to fish more saltwater so I know all about what each spinning reel is designed for. However I started bass fishing for bass recently and was wondering if some expert here could help me understand what each of the following reels are meant for? Also how do the different models (I/k) affect the performance. Chronarch Aldebaran Bantam Metanium Antares Exsence Scorpion Also any recommendations y’all prefer? Looking for a long casting, fast retrieve/hg, 150 sized reel as a do everything rod. Hoping to find a used one for under $200. I won’t be throwing large swim baits so most of the stuff will be from 1/8 to 7/8. Would an MGL be too lightweight based? Shimano or Daiwa would be preferred. Thanks
  5. Hi guys, so with the black Friday coming, I was looking to buy a new combo for punching/flipping. For the rod, I was looking at the megabass levante Aklys rod or the daiwa tatula heavy flipping rod, do you have any insight on any of them? As for the reel, I tried the tatula line last summer and I loved it, so the tatula elite p/f seemed like a good option. What do you think? Do you have other recommendations? Much appreciated.
  6. Getting my first baitcaster and am really struggling with what to get. I only bank fish ponds and most of all my Hard baits are 1/4oz-3/8 (Mainly 1/4) and maybe some 1/4-3/8Oz spinnerbaits (occasional 1/2oz frog) I fish t-rigs with 1/8-1/4 oz weight. Any guidance would be greatly appreciated. I got a lot of gift cards to Dicks and have been looking at the Dobyns Sierra 703,704 and the Daiwa Tatula 7’3” MH Fast. I’m open to any other recommendations on rods as well. Trying to stay sub $200. Thanks
  7. im looking for a good casting reel that a can use for inshore salt water. i was looking at the tranx 200and the curado k. if anyone has any suggestions they would be very much appreciated. also does anyone know if the tatula 200 or tatula elite are saltwater capable
  8. As some of you may know from my recent posts on here, you'll know that I recently purchased the new Daiwa Tatula Elite Long Cast reel. I've finally got some time in on the water with this reel to really be able to make an assessment of this reel. Backstory - I've own(ed) numerous Daiwa reels, but I've always primarily used them for flipping/pitching because I felt this was a category that Daiwa reels were superior at, and that my Shimano reels are better caster's. I've even own a Tatula HLC (hyper long cast) model that I use for frogging, but I was never keen on that reel because it wasn't the most comfortable in my hand. So whenever I heard that the new Tatula Elite was modeled off a Steez on the Tatula 100 frame and was tweaked for longer casting, my interest was piqued. Feel - Every Tatula I have ever owned has not been the most comfortable in my hands, but this new smaller size Tatula is very comfortable in my hand. It's small and compact, but it feels very sturdy in the hand with the aluminum frame and sideplate. The clutch/thumb bar has a very positive feel, and the braking system is also a breeze to adjust. My one gripe with this reel is that the handle knobs are a little smaller than I prefer to use and I have ordered a replacement set of RCS cork knobs to replace them. The Zero Adjust spool tension knob is a little different than what I'm used to, but I've started getting used to it. It's still possible to adjust, but it's somewhat difficult to do. On The Water - My first trip out with the reel. I spooled it up with 14lb Gamma Polyflex and mounted the reel on my Dobyns 736cb. I threw some spinnerbaits and buzzbaits with the reel. During this first outing with the reel, I kept getting overruns and backlashes every time I made a hard cast at full power. I wasn't sure if this was the reel, or the line I was using (since it was a little old). But I was very impressed at the distance I could get with this reel at 75% power. I was getting the same distance with this reel with less power, than I did with my Shimano's at full power. So this weekend I went out again, only this time I re-spooled the reel with Suffix 832 braid in 40lb test. Immediately I could tell the reel was performing much better. It quickly became apparent that this reel doesn't like if you put full power into a cast. But once you get the settings dialed in, I was able to bomb a buzzbait significantly further than any other reel I owned when throwing at about 70-80% power. What blew me away was how quickly the line flies off this reel during the cast. I think this is how the reel is able to achieve such great distance. Every time I would push it and cast too hard, I would be rewarded with a backlash. So there's definitely a sweet spot on the braking system and how much power to put behind your cast. What's nice is that I can make a soft cast and still get good distance. I can see this coming in handy on a long day whenever I'm tired, or for another angler who might be older or have a medical condition that hinders their casting. I hooked into three fish this weekend and the drag performed great for me. It was silky smooth and gave me no worries at all. The reel remained smooth and I didn't experience any issues while fighting fish and the reel performed exactly how I would expect any quality Daiwa reel to perform. Overall - I'm very impressed with this reel. I think I've still got some learning to do on how this reel performs, but I think I've got a good feel for it now. The distance with this reel is super impressive. So much so that I think I'll probably buy another in the 6:1 ratio to go alongside this one. If you're on the fence about this reel, I highly recommend buying one. And if you have any questions on the reel, I'll gladly try to answer them.
  9. What’s your opinions on the Diawa Tatula CT? I’ve heard many good things about it, but i just realized that they made a new one and that’s why there’s two that’s named the same thing, I like the look of the old one more except the handle knobs and cap, but is there anything different about the two/ one better than the other? Or any other reels in the 130 price range that’s good? (planning on buying one with a dobyns fury)
  10. Hi Everyone, Just received my first Diawa Tatula CT with Magforce-Z. The instructions show to operate the Magforce you are supposed to loosen the screw to adjust the Magforce level. I am able to turn it without loosening the screw. Is this something I should not do or is it fine? I just do not want to be messing up something internally. Also, what rod would you suggest around the $100 (give or take) mark to pair this with? Thanks!
  11. I want to replace my handle on my Tatula 150, does anyone have any suggestions? I am looking for a good handle for the price. I bent mine awhile back and would like to upgrade. Appreciate it!
  12. I recently bought my first Daiwa (Tatula CT). I loved it so much I put a Tatula SV on lay-away today. From what I’ve been reading, the Fuego CT is just a Tatula CT without the TWS. Is the tatula worth the extra cash over the Fuego? Is the tatula 100 worth it over the CT? Is the SV worth the increased cost over the tat 100?
  13. Does anyone have a fair and honest opinion on if the new Daiwa Tatula Elite is worth the $80 more than a regular new Daiwa Tatula 100? If so for yes or no please explain why?
  14. I target LMB, I fish alot of texas rigged Senkos, craws, 1/8oz jigs, etc.. I am planning on picking up a Tatula LT, but I can’t decide on the 2000 or 2500 size. I’m using 20lb braid to a fluoro leader, so no thick line. Pairing it with a 7’1 Med Fast Rod. Which should I get and why? (2000, or 2500)
  15. I've been eyeing the Smoke S3 for a while for my new setup and then when I learned of the new Tatula I started eyeing that. The Smoke S3 has only good reviews all over the internet including TackleTour's review and on TW, it looks great, and it has big spool capacity. My main interest with the new Tatula is the size, I am a teenager and I have rather small hands and I think this new tatula would fit my hand a bit better than the Smoke. I know Quantum hasn't had the bigggest following lately, but people are saying the S3 series reels are extremely good reels and i can't find a single bad review, the only problem I heard was throwing light baits and I don't plan on throwing anything under like 3/8 oz plus a trailer. I know there are a lot of hardcore daiwa fans on here so I'm probably going to get a lot of "just go with the Tatula no doubt" but I hope to hear from some people with experience with the Smoke. Just give me your most honest opinion please. Thanks, Harrison btw the rod its almost 100% going to be put on is a Dobyns Sierra if that helps you answer for some reason.
  16. Deciding between one of these 3 for a new jig rod. All would be rated for 3/8-1 oz lures. Daiwa is the most affordable, and people claim its very sensitive, but i like the looks of the st croix LT and after researching it seems kistler makes some of the most sensitive rods. Anyone with experience, is there a big difference in sensitivity, and is there a big difference in performance from the higher prices of two of these rods as compared to the tatula? Also considering a refurbished dobyns champion extreme hp but i'm afraid a 705 would be too heavy and stiff for a jig/heavy texas rig rod. I know i've posted a lot about this, but really want to make sure my money is spent wisely. Thanks
  17. Long story short, I was cleaning a used Daiwa Tatula 100 HSL (my first time) and after reassembling and cleaning it about 17 times, I think I may have damaged one or both of the gears. I just received a new Daiwa Fuego and the manual shows not to turn the handle or engage the clutch without a spool inside the frame as it will damage gears. Pretty sure this is where I went wrong, as I did exactly what it said not to do The Tatula still works but it's a bit "grindy". Would I need to replace both the main gear and pinion gear or just the pinion gear? Does anyone know a good place to order these parts? Thanks for your time. FWIW the Fuego is a really nice smooth reel. Can't wait to get it out on the water.
  18. I finally got out with my new Tatula today. It's smooth and casts beautifully. But since I started with baitcasters about 35 years ago I run the line over my index finger on my left hand. It still works, but it doesn't spool the line evenly. I know, first world problems
  19. Hi i just purchase 3 reels: Abu Garcia Revo STX 4th generation Abu Garcia Revo X 4th generation (i think it should be 1st gen) Daiwa Tatula CT type R I have Abu Garcia Revo STX 3rd generation Abu Garcia Revo SX 3rd gereration Daiwa Tatula SV TW Kast King Royale Legend i just purchase the revo X and revo stx becuase i got both for a good price can anyboty tell me wich is better between the STX 3rd and 4th generation, also i was planning to change the SX 3rd gen for a 4th gen, any advices? thanks
  20. So, I was looking for a new spinning reel for large/smallmouth, just to get down to some of the lighter weight gear. I also fish on a boat or kayak. I fish MD/PA/WV/VA(Potomac, Susquehanna, some lakes) I use braid 90% of the time. I'm currently using a Daiwa RG 2000 as my main go-to, with some cheaper gear for horsing fish out of thick stuff. The reel question is this...this Daiwa Tatula (As show here) is showing 6.2:1 gearing, 30.5" of line per turn, weighing only 5.8oz, with an 11lb drag, and holding plenty of line (for braid). AND it's a 1000 series reel. Is there any reason not to use this for most of the bass fishing in this area or am I crazy? The stuff they're coming out with now is pretty amazing.
  21. Ok folks, I am stumped. Did a little bit of salt water fishing the past few days, and I rigged/paired a few bass rigs with something more suitable for speckled trout and redfish. So here’s the situation... I took my Daiwa Tatula 100 6.3:1 and Tatula XT 100 7.3:1 and spooled them up with 30# Power Pro. I had each one on an unnamed 7’ MF rod. Same brand, same power, same action, same rod. The standard Tatula was casting like a dream, but I really needed a faster reel to keep up with the trout when they bit and ran towards me. However, when I picked up the XT, I just couldn’t get the distance I was getting with the other. I’m very familiar with the braking system and how to set them, and I set each one as close to exactly the same as you can get. Does anyone have any insight as to why I couldn’t cast the XT as well as the other?
  22. I’ve been looking to buy a new rod for jigs/frogs and things of that sort. I decided I want a 7.4 foot heavy action rod, and I’ve been looking at the Diawa Tatula rod, or Favorite Phantom rod. Both are around $150. I was wondering which is the two is better or recommendations of other rods in that price range. Thanks
  23. So I came across a deal on a brand new tatula for 75 dollars on ebay, but the only issue is to buy this I would be using the money I was planning to use on Black Friday sales. I need some help deciding if I should go for the tatula or not. I am afraid that there will be some better black friday deals and I cant exactly wait it out because I think the promo code is gonna end soon
  24. I was wondering what the best all around casting reel is for around $100-$150? I’ve heard a lot of good things about the Daiwa Tatula CT, Daiwa Tatula Type-R, and Daiwa Tatula SV. Is the SV worth it for the extra 50 bucks?
  25. I'm looking to buy some new gear for punching. I'm just looking for some generally recommendations on rods, reels, hooks, etc. I've really grown to like the Invoker lineup from Ark Rods, so Im leaning towards their 7'4" Mag Heavy rod. However, I've heard countless people recommend the Tatula rods, so I'm looking hard at their 7'4" Frog rod. As far as reels go, I don't really know what to go for. I've thought about snatching up another Revo STX 3 while they're cheap, but again, I keep looking at the Tatula lineup. What are the key differences in all of the models? There are so many options, between the SV, 100, CT & Type R, it's a little overwhelming. Which better suits the purpose of punching?
