  1. Looking to get a pair of polarized shades before spring rolls around here in MA. I have no idea what color lenses to go with though? I'm not someone who is going to buy multiple pairs to have 1 for each situation, so my question is what is the best all around lens? The two that seem to be mentioned the most are grey and amber, but I've read green as well. I'm just really not sure what to go with. This is something I've looked up several times now, but could never really get a specific answer. So I decided to ask you guys. If you have recommendations for glasses under $80, I would appreciate that as well. Let me know if there's any information about my fishing that would help. Thanks!
  2. Hey, I got a pair of costa 400g green mirror sunglasses for Christmas. I'm wondering if I should return them and dish out the extra 50$ for 580g. But if there's not a really noticeable difference then I would like to keep the 400g's. Thanks for any advice you myt have!
  3. I have not found any solid information online about this. I am planning on getting Oakley Holbrooks, I want to use them for casual/stylish use and for freshwater fishing. They do not have shallow water lens for them without customization, which I do not want to do since I can get these Oakley's normally at 25% off. So I am either thinking the regular darker polarized Ice Iridium polarized at 10% light transmission with neutral contrast or the Prizm Sapphire polarized with 12% light transmission and increased contrast. I read the Prizm Sapphire is great for everyday use and they seem like they would be great for fishing too with the increase in contrast. But I do like darker lenses such as the Ice Iridium generally, and have a very positive experience with the regular HDpolarized. Please let me know what would be best for fishing SHALLOW water such as ponds and lakes. Or if a different lens might work well too! Stuck on Oakley Holbrooks, so I do not want to hear any other brand, Thanks
  4. Folks - please stick to sunglasses under $30. These threads get out of control when the guys who like expensive sunglasses start in on thier $100+ sunglasses.... I've been well served over the years with value priced polarized sunglasses - I'll call it $30 and under. If I buy more expensive sunglasses they ALWAYS get destroyed/scratched/lost within 1 season. GUARANTEED! But if I stick to my value lines I have much better luck getting 3 seasons or so out of them. It's time again for a new pair. My last pair was Flying Fisherman brand - perfectly adequate, good polarization, not the best but I have no complaints. Anybody seen any great deals on higher priced stuff or good sale going on right now for 'decent' sunglasses?
  5. I was just looking at Bassmaster and saw an advertisement for Nines optics. I've never heard of them so I checked out their website and they're priced right around $90. They have 8 or so different frame styles and lenses colors. Have any of you tried them, heard anything about them good or bad?
  6. Do you like to wear polarized sunglasses for fishing? Which polarized sunglasses are the least obtrusive? In other words, which ones have the least effect on changing the overall look of the world, while still providing the fishing benefits? I've been reading that wearing polarized sunglasses cuts down glare on the water, and allows one to see through the surface of the water and sometimes see the fish (depending on water clarity and their depth of course.) Glare on the water never bothered me, but I would like to be able to see the fish. I never liked wearing sunglasses though, despite the aura of mystery they engender, and how cool it looks to wear them. I don't like how they make everything darker or tint everything to some color. I like bright sunny days and colors just the way nature made them. Therefore, I'd like to get some polarized sunglasses, but I'd like to get ones that tint or change the overall way things look the least amount possible. Any recommendations would be welcome. Especially for sunglasses in the $20 ballpark. I don't see myself going for those $150 kind.
  7. I am looking for a good set of prescription sunglasses. I was going to buy solarbat brand, but my prescription exceeds what they will fill. I would appreciate any feedback on prescription sunglasses for fishing anyone has experience with.
  8. 50% off on 580G's on 2 styles. Good seller - I have bought multiple pairs. http://www.steepandcheap.com/costa-hamlin-polarized-sunglasses-costa-580-glass-lens?skid=CDM002U-WHIMIRA-ONESIZ&ti=UExQIFJ1bGUgQmFzZWQ6U3VuZ2xhc3NlcyBPbiBTYWxlOjE6MjQ6 http://www.steepandcheap.com/costa-zane-polarized-sunglasses-costa-580p-lens?skid=CDM0148-CRYBROB-ONESIZ&ti=UExQIFJ1bGUgQmFzZWQ6U3VuZ2xhc3NlcyBPbiBTYWxlOjE6MTI6
  9. OK so the sportsman show is coming to town next week and I'm looking into getting some polarized sunglasses I've read some reviews one costas and typhoons but im not sure. Can you guys help me out with deciding or am I better to try them on there and see what I like better?
  10. Lets take a minute to talk about sunglasses. I'm looking to upgrade my optics for next season. I have always been one to just use cheap $15-20 polarized glasses from wherever I could find a pair that said "Polarized" on it. This past season, I stepped up a little bit and bought the Strike King S11's, which put me in the $40 range. I could definitely tell a difference between using this glass and a cheap pair from WalMart. Clarity under the water was noticeably better and I was pretty happy with them. However, I feel like there is still room for improvement. Now that this season has basically ended, I'm considering taking the final plunge into high quality optics for next season. What I want to know is will I see an even bigger improvement going from my S11's to something along the lines of Costa, Oakley, or what have you? I have no problem paying $150-200 for a good pair of glasses if I am going to get a big upgrade in my vision and clarity on the water. So my question is for the guys who are using high end glasses, is will I see an improvement? What are some things to look for when choosing a glass? What do you recommend?
  11. What brand of glasses do you use? I don't want to spend $200 if I dont have to. Are the more expensive one's really worth it?
  12. Ok guys, so I would like some of your guys opinions on sunglasses. I am looking for a good, affordable pair of polarized sunglasses that are fishing specific. I am wondering about some of the good brands and what color lens I should get and if the lens color matters. Any and all help is greatly appreciated. Thanks, Matt
