    While many of us banglers spend the summer wishing we had a fancy boat to go out and search for schooling fish with some fancy side imaging, many of us miss out on some great opportunities to be had from the shore for some truly giant bass. Entailed is a step by step analysis of how to get more bites this summer fishing pressured public water that you can do owning one combo and 15$ in baits. you will need 1 fishing rod capable of throwing atleast a 1/2 oz jig ( you don’t have to use a trailer but it does up your chances of a catch while your mapping the bottom) 2 a 1/2 - 3/4 oz football jig maybe even 1 oz if you believe the water to be over 30 Ft deep 3 4/0 worm hooks and 1/4-3/8 oz bullet weights 4 a pack of your favorite plastics mine are midsize brush hogs / curly tail worms/ or rage bugs / rage craws / the original trick worm or squirrel tail worm pro tip if you have a dock or pier to fish off of make a couple cast under or around it. It stinks to see a 5 lber swim out from under a dock you walked on 1. grab a 1/2-3/4 oz football jig and slowly drag it along the bottom casting as far as you can. Eventually you will feel some cover in the deeper water make a mental note of about where you notice the most cover these will be your high percentage areas 2. Rig a non pegged Texas rig and pick a plastic I normally start with a creature style bait or curly tail worm 3 drag your Texas rig extremely slowly through your high percentage areas if you think your going slow slow down don’t be afraid to stroke or hop your plastics in the high percentage areas but be sure to pause after 4 if nothing bites your creature bait a shakeyheads squirrel or trick worm can work well for finicky fish 5 catch some monsters my pb of 9lbs 9 oz came off of this exact technique on a full size brush hog with a slightly smaller 9lb 1 oz as well on a public lake this technique can be deadly around points witch most boat launches atleast on my lake are situated near but in the heat of the summer when the fish move deep during the day this can be an Awesome way to catch fish at cookouts and Picnics I hope this helps some of you bankers this summer hook into some giant fish it is really helpful when you go somewhere you have never fished before and can teach you some new techniques besides a wacky senko. This even offers the opportunity of lucking into a school and catching a monsterous amount of fish.

    I need help understanding how to effectively fish a jig (especially around docks)! My favorite way to fish is by fishing docks. Whether that’s skipping a senko or tossing a top water on the sides. I’ve been told that using jigs around docks are extremely deadly but don’t understand the concept. When tossing a jig under dock do you let it sink to the bottom and hop it or can you keep the jig suspended and work in the middle of the water column back to you. How do you guys fish jigs around docks? Thanks ?

    Hey guys, It's August, and I was recently out at a lake in NC. It's Muddy, with water temp around the 80s. I found two active spawning beds, one on the north end, and one on the south end of the lake. From the best view I could get (1ft visibility in the shallows with glasses) they appeared to be bed of either shad, bluegill, and/or crappie. As still a novice to behavior, what would be spawning in August? Would bass be opportunistic in going after beds in the summer? The beds are located close to dropoffs. Thanks all!

    Any tips on catching bass in the summer? It's going to be 80 degree highs where I live pretty soon, and 90 not long after that so I'm wondering how I'm going to catch them when it's that warm. What kind of lures should I use? And where should I be fishing? The pond I fish is pretty shallow, with not very much visible cover. Thanks in advance.

    I have been going to a pond near my house after work around 6:30pm (sunset is at 8:07pm). I live in Olive branch Mississippi. The temperature is in the high 80s to mid 90s. The water is a stained green with maybe a foot of transparency (Maybe less) but it doesn't seem muddy. I do not have a boat so I am forced to bank fish. I measured as far out as I could and the water seemed to be about 3 1/2 feet deep. I'm almost positive it gets a lot deeper in the middle. I've caught one fish (maybe a 1lb pound bass) on a Texas rigged senko worm (Black and blue specs). That never worked again. Since, I've tried jigs (Black and blue, dark green/junebug/watermelon mix), chatterbait, rage blades (neon chartreuse) - all rigged with either craw or chunk trailers, crank baits, lipless crank baits, and swim baits (bright chartreuse). I'm new to the forum and I'm not sure what I am doing wrong. I figure the fish are out in the middle in the deepest water but I've also seen huge fish near the bank with my own eyes. Also every time I see a fish in the middle, it's a blow up in the middle. So if they are supposed to be deep during the heat, why are they striking at the top? I'm sure someone can clear this up. It's a loaded question and if it's not how you are supposed to do it, forgive me. Thank you for you help in advance.

    I'm gonna be moving here shortly to Florida, and i've gained quite the arsonal of freshwater lures, which i'd like not to go to waste. Can i use my freshwater lures in saltwater? Will they work? If so which ones?

    So I was fishing today with my booyah pad crasher in sun burnt color and I lost it and need to replace it. So I'm looking at one of three brands, another booyah pad crasher (did well before but on a lot of bites it seemed like the fish didn't commit), the strike King KVD frog, or a live target frog. Any advice and opinions?

    Hey guys, I'm a new bass guy. I've fished trout for over 20 years, however the bass thus far have been elusive. I was curious if anyone knew any good fisheries around killeen/ fort hood? I was just medically retired from the ARMY, and I'm looking to enjoy a little bit of free time! I'd love some insight, also be advised I'm a bank fisherman. I've tried almost everything on fort hood and stillhouse and I swear the only thing I've caught is a cold (over exageration). I've caught a couple 1-2 lb LMB, however thats after over 10 outings, 2 fish LOL!

    Hi all, I'm new to the drop shot technique and am doing the necessary research to become more familiar in advance of a late August fishing trip. It seems that (almost) everyone uses a depth/fish finder when drop shotting for largemouth, which makes sense to me. I don't have a depth/fish finder and will be fishing on a 200 acre lake in Connecticut with clear to stained water color quality (no gas powered engines are allowed) and about 80% of water is between 5-8 feet deep, but there's a 3 acre section of the lake that's 20 feet deep. Is it worth drop shot fishing without the depth/fish finder? And if so, what do I need to do to be successful? Thanks!

    Hello from Texas, Has anyone else notice how hard and long you have to work this summer just to bring in a halfway decent largemouth? Is this just a North Texas thing or what? Yes, it's hot, REAL hot hear in Texas. And yes, we did have some flooding about 2 months ago. In fact most lakes are still above normal levels. My lake, which is lake Joe Pool, is still closed to the public. That being the case I've focused my efforts on some local ponds which have never disappointed me in the past. These ponds are rarely ever fished and have always been what I would call "Honey Holes". Well, I don't know what happed or what changed but the Honey is gone. The 3,4,&5 pound beautiful healthy looking bass have all but vanished From all three ponds I fish. Ill snag some tiny ones and the occasional 2 pounder but its rare. I know the fish are in there. What's the deal? It's like a switch was flipped off. Any ideas or thoughts on what causes bass in different ponds to just stop??

    When the temp is soaring above 90, the feels like temp is in the 100's, and a thunderstorm has just passed that brought some 0.90-1" of rain. pH levels go up, a lot of people tell me that for the stained to now partly muddy water due to the rain, To use a plastics. Now I know that with these conditions fishing is at some points good depending on a VERY specific, and small variety of lures that will produce on a tremendous success level for the described conditions. I am looking for the truth on what lures to use, the color, and presentation/technique for the described conditions? Please be very descriptive!

    Ok, so, If bass usually go deep in winter and summer what do they do if it is a shallow water lake where the deepest section is only 7ft. and average depth is only about 5ft?

    Ive only been fishing for a few months now and needed some tips. As we all know fishing in the heat of the day is almost impossible. Ive caught a few Bass and am learning quickly where, when, and how to fish for them but really wanted some tips on night fishing for bass. I usually stick to a plastic worm on a Texas rig and that has worked out well. Recently purchased a black jitterbug for top water but never know when to pull it out. Also just picked up a spinner bait as well. Can i effectively use the spinner bait at night? Any tips would be gladly appreciated on what lures to use and how to catch more bass at night. Thanks!!

    Just wanted to see who had some insight on this. I am located in Central Pennsylvania and am an avid bass angler. I am having trouble locating bass in the lakes we fish during the dog days of summer (late July - August). The lakes around us are smaller reservoirs that are usually elecric only or have a limit on outboard power and the water temp now is around 80 degrees. I have been running into a wall when it comes to finding bass in the heat of summer and can't seem to even trigger a bite down deep. I have been working all angles by targeting points at various depths by running swimbaits or cranking at different speeds. I'll also throw a dropshot, carolina or mojo rig working a lizard, tube, worm, or creature of different colors without a single nibble. The only thing that seems to give me success is working on the top or running a spinnerbait shallow early morning or twilight hours. I know everyone is saying that the bass are deeper during the summer but I still can't seem to trigger a bite down there. Obviously, it is hard to be confident spending all that time casting in the depths without any success and I understand it can be exhausting. But I have spent a good chunk of time concentrating on putting my bait in front of bass down deep and still haven't had success. My fishfinder will show me what I want to see with groupings down deeper on a flat or holding above a steep drop off so it seems as if my presentation is flawed. The only other thing I think may be the problem is that I may need to throw a smaller bait. Any insight would be greatly appreciated!

    Short report here: Snuck in a few hours of fishing at a lake I have never fished before yesterday. Got on the water around 0900 under extremely overcast skies. Temperature was about 70-72 degrees and the wind was blowing about 10-15 mph constantly and had some significant gusting. Trolled almost the entire length of the pond without a bite on Jig, Senko, Horny Toads, Chatterbait, Spittin' Wa...the list goes on. Most of the lake was clogged with vegetation, but I went towards the spillway area and the vegetation dropped off, and I started getting some nice looking grass coming up with my jig. I'd wasted probably 90 minutes without a fish, so for fun I slapped on one of my Spro Aruku Shads in Chrome w/ a silver back. Managed to land 2 fish in the remaining 30 minutes I had. Nothing Special but here is a picture of one of them - didn't even bother to weigh him, maybe 2lbs and a bit - at most.

    Hi. I'm international student in NC. I do bank fishing. Usually, I don't have problems catching fish but for last two or three weeks I can't catch anything. Not even a single bite. Not even pan fish, bowfin, or anything else. I use junebug, watermelons /red flake lizards, smoky shad fluke, red/yellow spinnerbaits, white buzzbait. Nothing works. Same baits I used earlier with no problem. But I can see a longnose gar activity out on the pond. The water is between murky/greenish/muddy. I don't know the depth but it is not deep at all. May be up to 10 feet, which I doubt. What is the cause of the luck of biting fish? How to manage that? Thanks.

    Snuck in some fishing early this morning with my buddy before my day of errands begins. Was out on the water around 06:45 this morning, it was slightly cool around 64 degrees when we started fishing. First pond we went to was absolutely choked with vegetation. While the top of the water was clear of debris, you only had between 8" and 2' of water to fish in. I tried a couple of the new baits I received in the newest MTB (won't spoil it for anyone who hasn't received theirs) but had no luck. We loaded back up after about an hour of no bites and went to another pond about 15 minutes away that we knew had no vegetation. Only problem with this pond is we have been consistently skunked there for the last year. I was not optimistic about my chances but figured we would give it a shot. Fished for about an hour alternating between Senko and Horny toads - nothing doing there. Swapped to one of my new Siebert jigs and started fishing out towards the middle of the pond. Each of us landed one fish on jigs - and while it isn't anything to write home about - I was doubly excited, it is my first Siebert jig fish, and it appears Siebert jigs have helped bust up our long lasting curse of being skunked. Anyways here is a picture.

    So, my regular co-angler has food poisoning and it doesn't look like he will make it to our tournament on Sunday - asked around to some other fishing guys that I know - all of them are busy or <insert X reason here>. I offered to pay the entire entrance fee since it was a last minute thing but no one is available or interested - so my questions to you guys are: Have you ever fished a buddy tournament solo? Did you approach it any differently than fishing with a co-angler? (one thing I won't have to worry about is making sure my co-angler is in a good place to cast/fish) Options are limited at this point and I'm not sure if fishing solo will put me at such a huge disadvantage that it won't even be worth going. I mean theoretically 1/2 the anglers on the boat = 1/2 the fish on the boat...but that's not really how it works most of the time - at least in my boat, usually one person is slaying them and the other is just hoping to find something large enough to cull with.

    Hey guys - just a fun prefishing report here, Was invited to Prefish a pond that two buddies of mine are fishing for their big bass club next weekend. We hit the water around 06:30 a.m. and began throwing Senkos up near the bank along the edge from the boat ramp. About 15 or 20 minutes of this produced no bites so we shifted across the pond to another bank. I flipped over and started casting out towards the middle and had a serious thump - set the hook..only to have empty line come flying back at me. Can only assume a Pickerel chomped it. After checking for any abrasion spots on the line I retied and got back out there. Failed to hook anything for awhile but the other two guys started getting small keepers on various green/green pumpkin colored senkos (had 4 in about 35 minutes). I switched to a jig and was tossing it out deeper. I started feeling some really nice grass down on the bottom (you know..the kind you just love to rip a crankbait through in the spring). No dice on the jig either...so I tried a chatterbait in green pumpkin with a few blue strands. 3rd cast with this and it felt like I hit a serious clump of grass...except my bait started to dive downwards - I sink the hookset and after a minor fight, land a 2lb 10 oz fish. He had absolutely choked the Chatterbait, I dehooked him, quickly weighed and got him back in the water because he was bleeding (no picture sadly, was more concerned with keeping him alive). Kept throwing the Chatterbait out, had a monster hit about 15 minutes later, but I set the hook and the line went slack - no dice. by this time we were out in the absolute middle of the pond, and one of the guys threw on an Xcalibur crankbait. 3 casts in he hooks and lands one 3lbs 3 oz (weighed, confirmed). 2 casts later he gets a small one I'd eyeball just shy of 2 lbs (didn't weigh). I decided to join in and tossed on my live target squarebill baitball. Took about 10 casts but I got a 2lber. We fished about another 90 minutes, but really it was just catching - every handful of casts someone had a fish on - all keepers. Turns out that grass was the place to be. Sadly I didn't get any pictures (the one guy asked not to be photographed with the big fish, and honestly I was having to much fun catching afterwards to really think about pulling out the phone for pictures). Anyhow, overall a great day. Above is the Chatterbait I was using. I have no idea what company makes this particular chatterbait, but I wish I did, it performs exceptionally well and I've used it for a long time now, so if anyone can tell from the pictures, please let me know. As an aside/slight gear review, this was my first chance to use my Kistler Carbon Steel rod which came highly recommended for chatterbait use. It performed perfectly, could feel all the tiny vibrations throughout the rod, and it was readily apparent when something changed about the way the chatterbait was swimming. Had it paired with my Lews Tournament Pro 7.1:1 - an excellent combo that I think will remain paired for a long time. Thanks for reading!

    Went out on Greyknoll lake (Miami Gardens, South Florida) around noon with a cheap $2 popper from BPS in baby bass color.. The bass were hitting it like crazy! By the end of the day I had caught some nice 3+ lb largemouths and the popper was beaten up! My friend decided to throw a KVD squarebill in the bright yellow color, didn't get hit all day until we were trolling before heading in. He landed a solid 5. Good day!
