  1. I’m an amateur bassin fool that just can’t get enough of giant spots. I’ve been chasing them for a few years but this is the first year 2019-2020 I tired to fish 365 and probably got in 265 days. I fish Whiskeytown Lake, California near Redding, California and I am looking for all the wisdom and experience I can gain for success in fishing period.
  2. I have been seeing a TON of shad in my local fisheries.(Alabama) Some of the shad are deeper, 10-30 feet, and I can see them with my graphs. Some are shallow in the backs of the creeks. We can see big bass constantly feeding on the shad in the backs of the creeks, but we are not able to get any of them to bite anything. Has anyone figured out any tricks to catching bass that already have millions of real shad to eat? Im open to all ideas or tricks to getting them to bite. I would also like some input on catching bass suspended around bait balls. Thanks!

  4. Ok, let's see all you have on the topic! There is very little clear definitive information on Spotted Bass in Winter. I have two small rivers and a lake near me in VA that have spotted bass. I am planning a trip (early January) to fish in the lake. The lake is predominantly Largies but has a pop of Spots. I caugh one accidentally last year while fishing a suspending jerkbait near a bridge. I know that spots act differently from all the other species in winter but that is all I can really figure out. do they suspend or hug the bottom? will they be located in the same areas I typically look for largemouths? do they chase or is it still a crawl fluttering presentation also? help help help!
  5. I do pretty well on the Alabama River catching spots. However, the Coosa River kicks my butt every time! How are these guys bringing in 18lb bags of spots? On the Alabama you simply find a good laydown with current. That technique on the Coosa has not worked for me thus far.
  6. I have been told the best place to find fish during this time of year is to find the clearest water on the lake. Regardless if this is true or not I have never been told how to find this without running all day long looking. I know the wind and bottom content have to do with it but I don't have a process that I know will point me toward the clearest water without taking a lot of time looking. What process do you use to find the clearest water?
  7. I've been fishing Lewis Smith lake lately with little to no success. Does anyone has any tips for fishing Smith lake this time of year? I've tried fishing everything from small swimbaits just covering water to isolated brush piles.
  8. I have 2 pre rap storm lightning shads and I was wondering what these baits are worth and who all is fishing these baits. Such as in what situations are these baits most effictive in? Or just any genaral knowledge on these baits! Thanks, bburtram
  9. I'm looking to start tournament fishing, and haven't found any leads on tournaments in this region. I'm willing to travel to bordering states for tournaments as well. If anyone has any information or leads on tournaments in the Western PA region please let me know, it would be much appreciated!
  10. I wanted to make this post to discuss Bull Shoals Lake fishing. I fish all the local tournaments which are mostly at night. The fishing here is completely different than any other lake I've been on. Anybody have any experience on this lake? I can catch 2-5 lbers but getting that 5+ has been a challenge. I know they are out there! Any advice would be great.

    Awesome day on Lake Keystone
  12. Lately I've been fishing out of a kayak with my friend up in the chestetee bay area over near Long Hollow Park. Over the coarse of 4 days I had no luck with any soft plastics but caught some good spots on crankbaits. I had a Kanan Lures Alosa crankbait tied on my baitcaster most of the time and caught one good sized spot on it, and one that was barely 1 pound, both around 4pm and running the crankbait parallel to the bank on the drop off. If you have fished Lanier recently during the spawn please post what you have had luck with
  13. just recently got in to swimbait fishing..been throwing 8in hudds and s wavers at a local reservoir and have had a few followers but no bites yet. There are big wild trout deep in the lake and some pretty big spotted bass. Just wondering if the swimbaits are still as effective if the lake doesnt get stocked with trout..or if i should throw something a little smaller for the spots. Caught a few 6lbers up there. Thanks
  14. The water I frequent has shot up from mid-40s to mid-60s and pushing on towards 70 in a matter of 2-3 weeks. My pre-spawn planned patterns would shot when I noticed this water temp and the only thing I got bit by was a 3lb bowfin.
  15. I have a tournament coming up this weekend. I haven't had a lot of success in practice but I have seen huge groups of spotted bass in 40 feet of water. They are anywhere from the bottom to about 10 feet off bottom. The water temperature is around 48. I've thrown a lot of different things at them and no luck. Any ideas on what to do? Keep in mind the water clarity is always stained on the Alabama River. Current is normally from 10pm to 8am then no current the rest of the day.
