  1. Hey BR, I hit the lake recently thinking I would do one thing, but had to switch gears. I was pleasantly surprised to find some bass willing to bite my topwater bait. Hope you enjoy the video! JN
  2. Before i get a spook and due to budget reasons what is the best color spook if I could only get one
  3. So today If I had landed all the fish that attacked grandpa's old spook, I'd have caught at least 7 or 8 bass. I dont know if the hooks are just too dull or what but I got a lot of bites today but was only able to net 1 fish. I have caught a few bass on this lure just last week so I dont know why all of a sudden the hooks aren't sharp enough to stick when they blowup. It was raining and cloudy towards afternoon after not being that way for a while so maybe this had something to do with it? Anyone provide some info/clarity as to what might be happening other than needing replacement trebles? (Which I plan on doing tomarrow). All I can think of is maybe a lot of the blowups were baby post-spawn bass that couldn't really get their mouth over the spook. I will test the difference w/new trebles and report back. I'm guessing the rate will double or even triple from 1 fish to maybe 3 if im lucky ?.
  4. I'm thinking about picking one of these up as my next addition to the arsenal. Obviously I want to use it for jerkbaits, but it seem like it would be perfect for smaller spook-type baits and poppers as well. I would also want to use it for cranking squarebills through/near structure. I know people generally prefer longer rods for crankbaits, but I think this rod would probably be better suited to it than the two rods I already own. I fish a lot from a kayak so the smaller overall length and grip are probably even more of a benefit in that context. Any thoughts, commentaries, alternative suggestions? Thanks.
  5. I have my next rod purchase narrowed down, but need help picking a model/brand. I want to add a 6'6" Med/Mod-F Spinning rod to the arsenal for throwing all kinds of smaller treble hook style baits. The shorter length is specifically for walking-the-dog and working jerkbaits. This is also to help with accuracy when throwing squarebill cranks at timber. I plan to use this rod with spooks, poppers, crankbaits and jerkbaits, all on the smaller end of the spectrum. Any suggestions?
  6. Decided to head out for 3-4 hours this morning for some casual pre-work fishing on a lake I've never been to before. I live in Minnesota so I'm blessed with the ability to visit tons of new lakes every season. It would take a long time to cover them all! However, along with that blessing comes a curse. Small Bass. My PB is 4lb 11oz and that's a seriously seriously quality fish for Central Minnesota. Got to the lake and, of course, it's filled with carp like all the lakes in the St. Cloud area. I find that if there are carp in a bay, the bite is tough in that bay. Does anyone have any experience fishing carp-heavy lakes? Please let me know your findings or techniques for those lakes! Anyway. It was a successful 3.5 hours because I caught a lot of really healthy really quality bass. Tried a few baits but the only thing they wanted was a wacky worm. Water temp was 72.9 degrees with overcast and windy/sprinkling rain conditions. I stayed in 3 foot or less of water, fished the wacky rig along docks and reeds and smoked 'em this morning! Oh and I got a respectable (ballsy) Sunny to grab my worm as well. He nailed it like a bass. I'm finding that the only way to catch bass in Central Minnesota where the lakes are pressured SUPER HARD every day is with the wacky rig. Seriously. It's the only set-up I can reliably catch fish on. Disclaimer: These were all taken with my front-facing camera. I was solo this morning and had no cameraman. Sorry the pics are sideways, but for some reason the internet wants to register them this way.

Early am top water hit. Fun since it was topwater, love how aggressive these guys are.
  8. Hi all, this is my first post so go easy on me please. I fish Spring Lake in California it is relatively small, about 70 acres, but it fishes very large with many coves and places for dish to hide. I saw a guy really doing well with a spook. I picked one up and was just wondering if anyone had a specific style that they like to fish this lure. Thanks in advance.
  9. on the Florida Bass color from yellow belly to white!?!?! Need to stock up If I can find some, any links help would be greatly appreciated Went from this..... to this.... Miss my yellow belly!
  10. Will be going night fishing at a pond tonight, where almost half of the pond is a big scum and lilypad mat. My question is, would it be a good idea to frog/punch the mats, or to try to to find an area where the water isnt matted over and throw a spook or something. There are a LOT of weeds, so any kind of crankbait is ruled out. Any help would be appreciated.

  14. So I was out at bass pro in Kansas a few weeks ago and of course with all the bass spooks their was a saltwater spook mixed in there. This is probably a stupid question but since it is a saltwater lure will that effect my chances of catching bass?
  15. So I typically have success with either of these baits and to me it seems like they can be interchangable in their use. I just wanted to see when you guys would throw one as opposed to the other. Clouds, sun, wind, shallow, deep... What conditions do you prefer for one instead of the other?
  16. Has anyone used Yum® Money Hound Topwater Softbaits? If so, how? And did you catch anything sizable? http://www.basspro.com/Yum-Money-Hound-Topwater-Softbaits/product/10203466/58623
