  1. Ok guys I’m interested to hear others opinions on this. You allowed 1 hardbait 1 softbait and 1 rod and reel or 1 rod 1 reel and 1 bait co what would they be for me I would have to go with dobyns, 13 fishing, and strike king, the only thing I would have to buy would be some berkley stunnas and megabass visions as strike king doesent currently make a nice sexy thin twitch style jerkbait
  2. Has anyone here started there own personal fishing website? How did you code it, raw HTML or using web design tools? How did you host it? What is your business plan to monetize it? How did all those choices work out? I have a 2016 B.S. in Information Assurance (e.g. IT Security) but no web coding experience (lots of Unix scripting, Matlab coding, some Fortran though). My story: I'm a top local fisherman who does not participate in tournaments. I have about 8 - 10 years of amazing reservoir Striped Bass catches (e.g. 90+ fish between 32"-43") and would say I'm the best guy in my state for freshwater Stripers (artificial lures, at least). I would guess I'm among the top 20% of Largemouth bass fisherman locally as well. I had an end-of-season LMB that would have been the biggest Largemouth weighed in our local lake tournament, would have won a $75 fishing permit for next year, but I released it to keep the lake wild and mysterious, even though I am temporarily unemployed and could use the money. So why don't I show these catches here or on other BBSs? Simply because there is nothing to gain financially, and a lot to lose if my local lakes get pressured from monkey-see monkey-do imitators. Example, one day I showed off a nice big Striper during release to a shore fisherman and showed him the bait. Next day, he and a friend where there furiously casting the same spot with the closest imitation of the bait they could find at their local Walmart. What did I gain in that transaction? Nothing. Fishing ain't charity either. (Even the Atlantic Ocean is not big enough for 6 boats on Wicked Tuna). All the fine artists in the world have a virtually unlimited amount of paint and blank canvases to practice their art. We fisherman, on the other hand, must share/compete over a finite number of fish on a finite number of spots, during a limited fishing window (due to weather, closed season, night lake closures, hard water, etc.) With that in mind, I am not going to disclose my catches and techniques on a website like this in which I reap no rewards but a few "atta boys" and "nice catches". I understand many of you make deep and valuable friendships here, and I think that is great and worthy, but that is not what I'm after. Basically, any material I create here goes to benefit the site owners and not me. (I could lurk and glean hints and pointers without providing free material, eh?) Moreover, some of the best discussions and topics have controversy. I don't want to get a on a good rip (not rude, mind you but controversial) only to get "goodnight Irene" or other similar bs. Therefore, I am thinking about setting up my own website. So I'll say again: Has anyone here started there own personal fishing website? How did you code it, raw HTML or using web design tools? How did you host it? What is your business plan to monetize it? How did all those choices work out?
  3. What advice do you have for high school bass fisherman? Things like how to get sponsors, tournament strategies, practicing for tournaments, how many rods & reels you recommend having, etc. Please leave any helpful tips that will help a high school bass fisherman. Thank you and I look forward to reading the responses.
  4. Hey guys, Before I get into this, would I be correct in saying the only way you'll probably get sponsors is if you fish tournaments? I plan on doing so next year but until then I was wondering if it'd even be possible to get some sponsors from small businesses in the meantime. Anything at all is appreciated

  6. I am a new tournament director for a relatively new series that focuses on anglers around Lake Erie. The founders started the new series with a couple things in mind. 1. Getting anglers to work together on the same boat rather than compete against each other like in Federation tournaments 2. Opening up an untapped market in a fishery that is mostly focused on smallmouth bass. 3. Maintaining a high level of competition while keeping a friendly atmosphere for rookies and people new to the sport. With everything being so new to me, I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions about where to start? I have a lot of options, but with a full-time job, a wife, and two kids, I would like to hear what has worked for other tournament directors in the past? Sponsors seem hard to come by and I had no idea that so many small tournaments (like ours) are fighting for the bass anglers in my area. I already have my permits and the events are scheduled for this summer/fall (2013). I have some connections in the area that I am using for a new website and the visitors bureau is issuing a press release to the region. Any advice is helpful. Thanks!
  7. Lake Monroe This weekend my club, Teen Sportsfishing Association had a tournament at Lake Monroe. It was very cold and the water temperature was at about 64 degrees. It was a slow day, 6 hours on the water and only 5 bites and 2 fish. I fished with a Quantum KVD combo, which is an amazing combo. Quantum really put its best into creating a great reel and great rod at a convenient price. What line am I using? On my Quantum I put 30lb. Power Pro. It is long lasting but have found that can lose its color. The baits I was using were Skinny Dippers; Buzz baits, Culprit, and Top waters. Culprit is a tremendous soft plastic company and can bring in the fish when nothing else can. If you are looking for a great bait company with awesome quality at a nice price try Culprit. What did I catch on? Both of my fish where on soft plastics; swim bait and Carolina rig. The lake is full of great spots for bed fishing, but the fish haven’t been as aggressive. Soon the females will be out and hungry. Ok, I have been asked by a variety of people if I use leader. No. I do not feel it is necessary, as an easy trick is to run a black marker along your line so it blends in. Lastly is my club. Teen Sportsfishing Association is for teens in 6th through 12th grade and is a great experience for young anglers. If you would like more information feel free to visit our website and/or contact our President, Neal Lazarus. If you any questions for myself contact me at strikekingking@hotmail.com . I am an angler in this club and want to become a professional in the future.
