  1. Hey guys, I want to start by saying I have done many of my own reels already with excellent results and right now this reel has me stumped. I bet all my Northern brethren are getting ready to do what I am doing or have already done it, but that is a deep reel cleaning. So far I have done my Shimano Citica, Daiwa Fuego and Lews TPG. I am in the process of putting my two Speed Spool LFS reels back together and have come across both reels being rough/geary. Yes I have greased the gears and No I have not over greased it, for some reason no matter what I do these two reels feel rough and all my others feel smooth as butter, same with the Lews TPG. Now I have had these reels for a little over a year now and use them quite frequently (2 or 3 times a week) when I can. Would it be possible that the gear teeth have already worn out?! After lubing one of the reels in question it feels buttery smooth for about 2 outings before the geary/rough feeling comes back. Now I know you shouldn't have to re-lube your gears every other time you go fishing. That would just get annoying and my 3 other reels do not have this problem and can go months without re-lubrication. So I am hoping you guys have some suggestions or better yet fixes that will help me out. Any info would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!
  2. Have any of you guys used the Lew's TP1 Speed Stick and/or Lew's Mach 1 Speed Spool? I was thinking of getting these and pairing them up together to be one of my all-purpose workhorse rods. I would be getting the 7-foot MHF rod. Any feedback is welcome!
  3. Early this month I decided to buy a new casting reel. After a few days of looking around I decided to buy a lews reel. A short time later I decided to buy Team Lews Custom Pro Speed Spool slp. All I can say is this reel is amazing. Its super lite, very well built, extremely easy to tune and will cast far. The way the reel sits on pole makes it easy handle not to mention comfortable. The 4 pin 27 position centrifugal breaks are by far the best breaking system I ever used. This reel is also moderately priced at $260 dollars. The reel is a one piece aluminum frame with carbon sideplates and handle. It also uses airplane grade materials. This reel is partically impossible to backlash if tuned properly. With this reel you will be able to cast really far with ease. Few days ago i went to a FOOTBALL FIELD to see how far I can cast. I decided to bring 3 lures with me. I did 5 cast for each lure. First lure was a 6 gram or .21 oz blue fox spinner. I was able to cast 44.4 to 47.7 yards. Next was a 10gram or .35 oz rooster tail. I was able to cast 53.8 to 57.1yards. Finally i tried something really light. A 4 gram or .14 oz blue fox spinner I was able to cast that 30.2 to 33.9 yards. These distances were measured the real way, the accurate way in a football field with yard markers. My conclusion is if your looking for a reel that's well built, very low profile, cast a mile, feels great in hand and impossible to backlash if set rite then get this reel. You will not be dissapointed at all its simple amazing and it only cost $ 260 dollars which isn't that much for a casting reel.
  4. I know everyone asks this, but I have two setups right now, a 8:1:1 *** paired with an Okuma worm and jig rod (7 ft medium heavy fast action), I mainly use that for Texas rigs and top water fishing. Then I have a seven ft medium duckett ghost crankin rod with a 5:6:1 tournament mb that I throw pretty much everything else on -- crankbaits, spinnerbaits, chatterbaits etc. I am looking for another rod and reel that could be used to have an extra lure tied on that could kind of perform with most baits well. I would pair this setup with a speed spool 6:4:1. Any suggestions for what rod to get that is 90 bucks or under? I know about ducketts and all those rods at 99.99 but I want to try something new that is a bit cheaper? Any suggestions? Thanks. Or do you think the setups I have will cover it all?
  5. In case you missed it, Lew's updated their website this weekend to reflect their 2014 lineup (http://www.lews.com/). IMO, probably the most interesting development is this new centrifugal braking system for the BB1 (not the Pro). It's called the SmartPlus 6-Pin System - more details at http://www.lews.com/Lews-BB1-SmartPlus.pdf. Interested in getting input on this because I'm about to upgrade to either the BB1, BB1 Pro, or Tournament Pro. First post by the way - excited to join the community. Holy cow, this website is incredible. Tight lines!
