  1. There was a US National Team for bass fishing assembled of both FLW and BASS pros. The team members are Scott Martin, David Dudley, Mark Rose, David Fritts, Fred Roumbanis, James Watson, Scott Canterbury, and Lionel Botha. They have hopes of one day making bass fishing an Olympic sport as they will be traveling to South Africa to fish in a tournament against other countries. What are your thoughts on this? Do you think bass fishing has a shot at becoming an Olympic sport?
  2. Hi My name is Robert and I live in Cape Town, South Africa. I have been bass fishing from my young days mainly in farms ponds but started competitive bass fishing in 2010 after the purchase of my first small boat (13 ft with 60HP). I have since upgraded to a 16ft with 90HP. I used to fish the social team Money Trail events here in the Western Cape but but switched to the individual regional events and have twice represented Western Province at our annual interprovincial competition here in South Africa. I have a few top 5 finishes to show for the BFSA Money Trail events. I hope to learn and share.

I was lucky enough to be at the right place at the right time to catch this 11 pound piggy during pre spawn.
  4. Hey guys, I’ve been quiet since my introduction, but I’ve been reading more then I write. For a those of you who didn’t see it, I am a Rookie angler who is getting into the competitive scene here over in South Africa. Fishing for around 18 months now, and enjoy learning every chance I get. Anyway onto my question. I follow this forum, and two local forums and google plenty of articles on *** and bassresource as well as watching the FLW and BassMasterElite series on youtube ( As we don’t get them here ) also plenty of other stuff on youtube. What else can I do? Where else is there to look and to learn. My best biggest curve is to turn diving crankbaits into a confidence bait, not something I am managing to do too easily at the moment. Also my main question on this thread is what are the best bass magazines to subscribe to in the states? I was hoping to see if I could get 2/3 subscriptions going ( cost dependant ) as a way to learn, but I haven’t a clue what magazines are the best/ most informative. Anyways thanks for the time! Tight lines! Ross
  5. Ok guys, I am here to pick your brains a little, I have a little comp in two days, it’s at my local dam which is been very tough lately due to the water level being so low, at the moment there is no reeds/ vegetation on the banks for the Fish to hold to so its deep fishing. However this week we have had some of another species of fish spawning, ‘ Carp’ (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Carp )not something I believe you get in the USA. I don’t know that much about them myself, but with the eggs just hatching I would imagine they are schooling, and they wouldn’t really be sticking to any trees more just open banks, not places I usually fish for bass due to the lack of structure. So here is what I am asking, I want to take a technique to try and mimic these fish as the bass will be feeding on them. I have attached a picture of what they look like, In my mind running a White and Gold Fluke on a Carolina rig, or a X-Rap Jerkbait off the banks till quite deep. How else could I tackle this, there is a very limited window in which these fish spawn, which falls right on my comp, and I feel this is something I need to take advantage on. Hopefully I’ll be able to link a report back about this if it works out. ( Again I am a Member from South Africa if you are puzzling what I am asking about) Regards Ross (Fish in the picture caught by a friend Tjaart - After many hours of trying!)
