  1. I’ve fished a lot of different soft plastic craws and done well with quite a few. But there seems to be a vast gulf between a green pumpkin Rage Craw and all the others. I don’t know if it’s the color, the size, the action, or all of the above. But they just simply produce. I’m going to make the Bait Monkey happy this week lol.
  2. The water is warming up here in NC. Today was my only chance to fish (because of class and a Spring Break trip I gotta prep for), and when I got to the pond the wind was whipping at about 25 mph. Casting was difficult, but I decided to use a red booyah spinnerbait (clouds, wind, pre-spawn...maybe I was on to something?). After several minutes with no bites, I switched to a weightless Texas-rigged bandito bug, Alabama craw color. After snagging and breaking it off immediately, I tied on another one. Unfortunately, I didn't catch anything (I think the wind was a bit too strong and probably pushed them too deep for me to reach from the bank). It's supposed to rain all next week, so it may be a while until I get out again. Anyway, good luck to all y'all out there!
  3. Just curious why colors like these are so popular? Is there any insight as to why they work so well? If I go into the reviews on TW for almost any worm, and most soft plastics, so many mention that these purple/pinkish colors are their favorite. I just find it kind of funny because it's so unnatural. Although I guess blue gill can have a kind of iridescent/purple shimmer sometimes. Whatever it is, I'm going to buy some roboworms and dream shots with this color scheme in the order I'm putting together right now. No idea when the best time to throw them is, but hopefully I find some luck.
  4. In this video I share how I have stored my Rodents (beaver style baits), Shimmie Sticks or Ochos and why for years while competing on Tour. Thank you for watching! James N.
  5. Hey BR, Got a new video on ways to rig soft plastics that I wanted to share that have been great at getting bites. Hope you like it! Good fishing, James Niggemeyer
  6. Hey BR, Attached is video of my “simple” or short list of top performing swim jig trailers for all seasons and imitating all prey items. Thanks JN
  7. Hi guys, long time reader first time poster here, After 2 years of using my hand-me-down baitcasting rod off of my grandpa, it finally kicked the bucket and snapped into 3 peices. So im in the market for a new one. However I don’t know a massive deal about which rods are “better” or which rod to use for which specific purpose. I should probably mention that I am from Australia not America so I know it’s a little bit different. But I’m sure it’s the same sort of thing I’m not stressed about importing a rod from Japan or America I just need some suggestions. I am mainly throwing small inline spinners or small soft plastics to catch Redfin - “European perch”, smaller Murray cod or silver/golden perch. I have a heavier rod already for when I’m targeting larger fish so I’m in the market for a “finesse” baitcasting rod any suggestions would be appreciated thanks a lot ? I don’t REALLY have a budget but obviously I wouldn’t be overly keen on getting something worth $800 and preferably a 2 peice for travel purposes. I’ve been searching for a week and getting sick of using my overly heavy slow action rod haha. Thanks in advance
  8. I know all the fishermen go crazy about the action, the "wiggle" of stick baits and such. I was wondering have there been any studies done with bass in a controlled environment presented with lures with different action to see if the bass react differently. I did a quick Google search but couldn't find much. I ask this because to me it seems more that fisherman are more enamored by the action of a lure than a bass might be. The ever so slight different in the wiggle between say a senko and dinger drives fisherman crazy! But do they actually drive bass crazy? For me personally, I seem to catch the same amount of fish on any stick bait, and the more important factor is probably sink rate because it sinks to the bottom faster, and since I'm relatively impatient this helps a lot.
  9. So Im newer to fishing, more specifically bass fishing. I have at the rods and reels i need but i'm stuck with one thing. The question I have is if I have a $100 to spend on soft baits. What should I buy? Senkos and worms i have so Im only talking trailers, craws, beavers, no swim baits etc. Please comment baits you think are crucial to have.
  10. Hi everyone. I recently purchased a jig, it's brown and orange ish with green sparkles . As a trailer I got a sungill zoom baby brush hog. It matches PERFECT, but they're "limited editions" and they probably won't be available in a while. So I was just wondering if I could put a greenish trailer on an orange trailer. I live in a pretty clear lake so it troubles me a little that the bass might be able to see the difference and be skeptical about hitting them. Hopefully you guys can help me ! Thanks,, Tight Lines! ps. Let me know if you want pictures.
  11. To make things short, I recently purchased an assortment of hard and soft plastics and found these single claw, craw like lures. No clue what brand. No clue how to work it. No clue how to hook it. Just want to get your thoughts on it.
  12. I'm would like to know what line I should put on my baitcaster, I primarily use soft plastic frogs and other soft plastics and I was wondering if flouro or braid is better for soft plastic topwater frogs(horny toads, rage toads etc.). And to get maximum distance. PLEASE HELP.
  13. I'm looking for a good baitcasting rod that's under $200, I primarily use soft plastic frogs, lizards, flukes etc. and I'm looking for a good pole that shapes around that setup and I don't quite know what rod to get. Please help.
  14. Anyone know some good colors for frogs? (Hollow body and soft plastic) I'm new to frog fishing and am not sure which colors to get! Thanks
  15. For a long time, I've been keeping most of soft plastic bags in my Plano tackle bag, which has a clear compartment underneath the main flap. It holds about 20 bags of plastics. However, I'm getting more soft plastics than the bag can hold. I'm looking into get the lews boat bag and putting my bags in a couple of big Plano utility boxs and storing the boxs in the boat bag. Just curious on what size utility box you all use or how you store your plastics. Thanks guys!
  16. I love to throw soft plastic lures on a texas rig but I'm always worried about their scent. Should I be afraid of getting "human scent" on my lures while rigging them? Also is it ok to pre-rig a lure and let it sit on the deck of my boat, or will the sun dry it out and reduce the effectiveness of any fish attracting scent on the bait? Thanks guys.
  17. Hey all, I'm trying to put together a list of different ways to rig soft plastics. Pretty straightforward. I'm planning to try all these this summer, and maybe do a how-to on them. So far we've got: Texas rig Carolina rig Wacky rig Drop shot rig Neko rig Alabama rig Weightless rig Shaky head rig General jig rigging (football, swim, bladed) Ball head/underspin rig Split shot rig That's all I got so far. Let's hear some more, plus any you randomly come up with!
  18. Hey Bass Resource, I have noticed that my soft plastic lizard baits tend to retrieve in upside down, which is decidedly noticeable on lizards that have a different color belly than the rest of the lure. I have tried tying the hook on different ways and using different weights to no avail. Has anyone else expereiced this, and what is the solution to remedy the issue?
  19. Hey all, I recently got some extra ca$h from my job (tackle shop on the weekends!), and wanted to get some new terminal tackle, or rather, a box of it. I just wanted to hear some feedback on what stuff to include in it. I want an assortment of hooks, weights, etc that I can use to rig basically every plastic out there. Thanks a bunch, Drew ~Catch 'em
  20. Hi everyone, I was wondering what people thought of the Double Header color for soft plastics? I graduated college and decided to get back into fishing. I am resolved to learn soft plastics now. I'm going to get some Rage Tail Space Monkey and Anaconda (10''). For the Space Monkey specifically, is the Double Header color good for clear water conditions (sunny or cloudy) or would it probably be better to pick up Watermelon for clear and Green Pumpkin for cloudy conditions? Thanks for everyone's advice. I appreciate it. -ender811
  21. For those of you that fish with Powerbait worms (scented) do you leave your worm on the hook until your next fishing trip or do you always start with a new stinky one out of the bag?
  22. I've recently begun to see great variance in hook-setting styles, e.g. snap set, sweep set, reel set, and standard powerhook setting. Keep in mind that today's hooks are incredibly sharp, you usually don't have to yank the moon from the sky to set the hook. What sets do you you use for which baits; I tend to use: Sweep set-slowest, reeling slack/loading rod, then sweeping sideways or lightly towards an 11 o'clock position For crankbaits...or anything with trebles. Including lipless crank (a standard hookset can rip them out of the mouth) Top water Soft plastics Reel set-Load rod with reel, (not so much that they can feel you) then set hook (not lightly, not powerfully, find a happy medium) when using smaller, wire hooks, e.g. wacky rigs football jigs/any jig not fished in heavy cover-Hard hooksets can pull the lure, causing that lead head to bust open a bass' mouth and swim away. This also compresses the weeguard before the set. This must be done quickly. Use a high speed reel. soft plastics- Quality Wide gap/EWG hooks and wire hooks Finesse lures (wacky rigs, shaky heads etc.) Anything with circle hooks Snap set- A regular hookset, but without having reeled in all the slack. It can pop a lure while in a bass' mouth instead of just yanking it out Also used for jigs. Good for T-rigged soft plastics when bottom bouncing; especially with heavier hooks Soft standard Hookset-'Nuff said T rigged soft plastics-wire hooks O.K. for jigs with small hooks Tex-posed Soft Plastics Hard-'Nuff Said Flipping and pitching when using massive hooks Swim jigs Spinnerbaits When a lot of line is between you and the bait/heavy cover Thick soft plastics with large buried/weedless hooks Topwater plastics like frog and eeliminators weedless hollow frogs
  23. Can I throw my soft plastic baits back in the bag with the rest of them or can I only use each one once.
  24. Im brand new to the idea of fishing soft plastics, ive always been a fan of crankbaits and topwater baits.. Im interested in learnig more about fishing soft plastics... What are some of the best soft plastic baits to use for largemouth? What is the best way to rig the best soft plastic?
  25. I've decided that, that for three days I will disclose three new rigs I've discovered (two of which I've developed myself.) Day three's rig is the squid rig. Take a starfish bait/small pre-made octo rig and your favorite finesse worm. Heat up the head of the worm and the midsection of the starfish rig (over a burner) and attach the two. This rig is great in overpressured waters. In a pressured Izaak Walton lake near my house with stained water, this allows me to use a new finesse rig, that, with more appendages, displaces more water and provides a more inconspicous, yet still unthreatening profile. On a shakey head it is seductive and on a dropshot rig, with more surface area than a regular fluke/worm, it moves more with less current. Tips: Just one for today...THE BATHTUB TEST Fill up your bathtub and take those new lures you have into the throne room. Tie some line to The bait and test it out. This allows you to see its action and what cadence, retreive, rigging, speed, and cover the lure will work in. If you have a pool, even better (don't use the lure for 24 hours after so as to let the chlorine evaporate) This will give you more confidence and education as to its best uses.
