  1. I've got a question I did not see answered in the articles section. I'm fishing from the bank on ponds and lakes where there is a lot of vegetation and was wondering would it be better to use a Texas rig or put the worm on a shaky head? Second question, is there a reason why I should not use a large worm like the Zoom Ol' Monster? Thanks
  2. I have recently been trying to get into shaky head fishing. I typically fish medium sized ponds in the northeast that are loaded with heavy grass. At any point on the pond, almost every cast I pull up a couple pounds of grass. I use the slow drag and shake technique along with a straight tail worm. Can anyone recommend a specific shaky head jig that comes trough the heavy grass well. Any other tips will also be appreciated. Thanks!
  3. Hello everyone, I got a kind of tricky question. I'm looking to get a finesse spinning rod to use with Drop Shotting, weightless senkos, shacky head, wacky rig, etc.(targetting LMB and Small Mouth) I know that it's best to have two different rods for said aplications but I can't afford two different rods. With that being said what would you guys recommend for a good all around finesse rod? (Price<$150)
  4. Hi, I recently bought a "Lew's speed stick, signiture Hank Parker rod from Walmart (spinning). It's 6'10, medium power, fast action. There was no price tag around and when they scanned and typed it in, it was unknown in their system. I couldn't even find it online. So we discused with the manager a price of $29.97 and paid that. I still don't know what the real price is, any ideas?
  5. Looking to upgrade a spinning rod, and I cannot decide between the GLX or NRX. I have heard that the GLX JWR were preferred by a lot of folks for spinning, and was hoping to get some feedback from you guys. I will be using it in 8-20ft of water mostly rock and some brush. 60% 1/8-1/4 shaky head, 30% light trigs, 10% mojo rigged worms. Considering 852jwr and 822syr but wide open to other suggestions. As always, any advice is greatly appreciated.
  6. Has anyone ever rigged flukes on a shaky head? or anything other than worms for that matter. what works for you, care to share?
  7. I favor the shaky head simply because I don't like to carry much with me and a shaky head is less stuff than a hook and weight. Do you find one works better than the other?
  8. I've decided that, that for three days I will disclose three new rigs I've discovered (two of which I've developed myself.) Day Two's new rig is the shaky wacky combo. It is a great twist whether fished as a finesse shaky head presentation, like a wacky rig, or with a walk the dog retrieve. One note, though, if fished like a wacky rig, it can be fished faster. Todays tips: Never throw away a torn up plastic. If ripped up from hooks, take a chunk of plastic, like those strips of material that bind appendages on a bait, stuff them into the crevice and expose to a flame. Most external damage can be fixed by stretching/bending the "wounded" area and exposing to a flame in short bursts. A good goal to aim for is to, for baits such as worms with ridges on the body, you repair the lure without liquefying said ridges. As for ones beyond repair, cut them up how you like, and via a lighter/stove top, combine them with other baits. Some good examples: I will take torn up senkos, slice them lengthwise (after repairing it) and take the tails from torn up rage tail anacondas, and melt the tail along the senko. This creates a leech type bait that is great for drop shoting in current. Finesse worms are the easiest to repair. The tail is where the action is, so if the head is ripped, melt on another head. BE CREATIVE, after all you have nothing to lose and everything to gain. Tune in tomorrow for day 3.
  9. I'm having trouble trying to decipher what the sizes of spinning reels are. Pflueger has different numbers than other manufacturers. So I guess what I want to ask is what size Pflueger reel would work best for shaky heads, wacky worming, and drop shotting?
  10. So I'm fairly new to bass fishing, and being young and all, I don't have access to a boat (or a car for that matter), and I don't actually get to fish all that often, besides at a not-so-good pond down the street. HOWEVER, one thing I hate is when I do go fishing, not having the bait for the situation. Right now, my tackle bag has Berkley power worms (red shad and blackish bluish purplish color), yum dingers (watermelon red and a blackish color with a blue tip) and zoom lizards (same a s dingers pretty much), and watermelon red baby brush hogs, along with a spinnerbait, buzzbait, or jig here and there. Now I pretty much always just Texas rig these things, probably because I'm a lazy teenager (sometimes I even use snap swivels *gasp*). however, I'm looking to "expand my horizons" and start Carolina rigging, drop shotting and such. But I have some questions! First off, is drop shotting kinda like backwards Carolina rigging? That's how I interpreted it. Secondly, what situations would I use each rigging style in (I know I could find this elsewhere, but I've looked and really didnt understand). And also, shaky heads. I've heard them mentioned in many a bass fishing video. I understand theyre like little jigheads, to "stand the bait up"? Is this right? What style/ size jighead with what type of plastic? Lastly, so far, I've skimmed some other threads, been thinking I'll invest in a few more spinnerbaits, and some rage tail space monkeys. Maybe a crank or two (lot a weeds where I am, which deters me from wanting to use a crank). Thanks very much in advance, Octopusfingers
  11. I am new to both of these techniques. I want to do a little of each this year and was wondering what I could do in terms of rods (the cheaper the better as I am in graduate school and need to save the money if possible). I currently have a couple spinning set ups and one is a 6'6 ML but is a 2 piece. So I don't really know where to go with a new rod purchase in terms of length and power in order to potentially get into these 2 techniques this year. Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks.
