  1. What Shad pattern Rapala DT-6 have you had the most success with or is your favorite? The main ones I see fished are Disco Shad, Pearl Grey Shiner, and Penguin.
  2. Hi BR Just posted my second video on exploring unfamiliar waters and wanted to share it here. Includes locating fish and chasing schooling fish in the late summer early fall time frame. Hope you like it! Thanks for watching! James N.
  3. I was at Pickwick Monday late in the afternoon and everywhere we went there were large shad (gizzard shad I'm guessing) exploding on top of the water. At first I thought it was bass feeding on top, but it seemed to be hundreds of shad jumping out of the water. They would do it right against the side of the boat. If you threw a lure, they would swirl around it but never actually grab it. I have never in 40+ years of fishing seen this happen at the scale it was happening. Literally, at the back of a large creek, the entire width of the water was exploding with shad. Any ideas what this is all about? Just curious what the cause might be. Thanks in advance.
  4. I have been seeing a TON of shad in my local fisheries.(Alabama) Some of the shad are deeper, 10-30 feet, and I can see them with my graphs. Some are shallow in the backs of the creeks. We can see big bass constantly feeding on the shad in the backs of the creeks, but we are not able to get any of them to bite anything. Has anyone figured out any tricks to catching bass that already have millions of real shad to eat? Im open to all ideas or tricks to getting them to bite. I would also like some input on catching bass suspended around bait balls. Thanks!
  5. I just finished my attempt to create a dying gizzard shad. Any opinions or tips for me? Just curious what would be the most you guys would be willing to spend on a bait like this one?
  6. I'm middle-aged. Have fished a little in the past but have really started to get into this great sport this past summer. Lots of useful info on this site My question, a lot of the lure advice out there focus on shad. In other words using lures that mimic or appear like shad. Are there shad in Berkshire county waters? Not sure if I've seen shad in in the local lakes. I've seen plenty of perch, bluegill, sunfish, etc. among others. Do shad exist out here in meaningful numbers?
  7. Other than rapala shad raps which I already have and am not a huge fan of due to colors I don't like and lack of detail. I like Japanese style hardbaits. I only notice ima has a deep diving shad style bait. Well I guess there's duel as well but I think their colors are not the greatest either. Wish rapala would come out with a shad rap in all sizes in their shadow rap colors. Anyways wondering if people know of any others? I'm crazy picky about lures.
  8. A local golf course that I fish at is LOADED with big bass. After fishing this pond for a little while last spring, I noticed baitfish moving around. Upon further notice, I found a couple threadfin shad, that had been partially eaten by birds, laying on the bank. I had the idea of drop-shoting some of those shad that are typically used for catfishing just to see what would happen. It seemed to make sense because that is about as realistic as a dying shad suspending in the water. It started raining as I was trying this out and left without any answers. Has anyone ever tried this?
  9. I am trying to find a Bobby Garland Baby Shad mold. Do you know of any company that will make it. I don't think there is a patent on the bait and other companies have copied it. I know how much bait making costs so you don't have to warn me.
  10. I was thinking today if you fish a lure that imitates something that doesn't live there, will bass still hit it? Around my local lakes and ponds we have sunnies and minnows swimming around mainly (worms, lizards and grubs too) but if I threw a rage craw or a shad rap would they hit it? I've never seen any crawfish or shad in the shallows. I usually see crawfish up north in the state on an unnamed smallmouth hotspot. Also I noticed how long some of these plastic worms are. Some of the curly tail worms bassinisaddicting sent me are pushing 10-12 inches. When you go to a tackle shop and buy a can of dmf nightcrawlers the longest they are is maybe 5-6 inches. How many worms are actually a foot long? I know big bait=big fish but this stuff seems excessive... Also some big fish have been caught on small stuff too.
  11. How would I fish this?
  12. Hey guys here's a short video review of Kick'n Bass Fish Attractant. One of my first videos. Hopefully I'll be getting better and better the more I do.
  13. My dad for a-while now stores shad guts & shad in a big container and adds a bunch of salt and freeze ice to it.. he uses it for catfishing and catching crab. Over the winter he keeps the shad guts in the container, is this necessery for him to do that? he don't even use them in the winter but yet he is still got them in there.
  14. I was wondering how to tell if the lakes that I fish in have shad in them? Do almost all lakes have shad or how do you tell? Thanks for any information.
  15. I am going to be fishing in a rowboat with my girlfriend and the lake we are fishing is known for good hybrid striped bass fishing. I want to fish them when we take a break. I can row the boat while she relaxes and still have lines in the water to possibly catch a great fish. Lake Shabbona, IL. I have the appropriate rods/reels/line just need to know how I rig the live shad up so it is in the strike zone. Any and all advice is greatly appreciated!
  16. Fishing has been really slow in Michigan these last few weeks! Any tips that may help me land a bass?
  17. My son and I participated in the annual Shad Shootout to benenfit Multiple Sclerosis here in Richmond this past weekend. It was his first chance to ride in my Hobie Pro Angler 14, so he took great pleasure in riding shotgun and standing for most of the trip. He was the shad whispere on the day and ended up catching 15 quality shad ranging in size from 12" up to the beast of the day, a 19 1/4" American Shad. He also landed a couple smallish white perch to boot. I made a few casts as well and landed several 15" Hickory Shad and a bunch of whiter perch including a chunky 11 1/2" one. Here's a quick video I made of the outing. Enjoy!
  18. Tips on lipless' I've been using the KVD Red Eye shad in a local lake and I have caught numerous bass and even a 28 inch walleye, but every time i switch to a cotton cordell Rat-L-Trap I get no success. I need tips and techniques on how to use the Rat-L-Traps!
