  1. I don’t know if any one else has the problem I do I am good at bank fishing and shallow fishing i live in Huntington Texas about ten miles from lake Sam Rayburn one of the biggest lakes in Texas but i fish it all the time how ever I don’t really know how to fish in deep water and target big fish also there is only large mouth in the lake so if anyone has any info on what baits I could use and what I need to do to successfully fish deep.

  5. Hey Everyone in the BR community, Long time troller first time poster. Me and a few buddies are headed to Texas for the first time the first week of march to catch the Lunker of a lifetime. I've been researching Fork and Rayburn. If you know guides, boat rentals, lodging, I could use your help. And if you ever come up to PA I can point you in the right direction in return. Thanks, Pete
  6. I went to Sam Rayburn for the first time since February, the water since has come back down to pool level, and from the looks of it most of the deep hydrilla has been killed off. So, I thought it would be a no-brainer that the fish would be set up offshore and that would the deal. After fishing about 4 hours on various bush piles and boulders, ranging anywhere from 16-34 feet I could only come up with a single spotted bass. I was a Using a Spro DD-90, a Berkely foot long power worm on a carolina rig, and a Cumberland Pro 1 oz hair jig. After I gave up the offshore bite, I went to the the backs of coves and flipped some brush in the late afternoon and was able to pick off a few fish including a 5-pounder to salvage my day. But, it still left me puzzled, why I couldn’t catch anything offshore? Did anyone have this issue at Rayburn?
  7. For the last 5 months I've been meticulously planning a trip to Clear Lake in California. However, it seems with the recent closing of the lake and the upcoming rains that trip just isn't likely. So now I'm stuck 10 days out (leaving Feb 25) trying to come up with a new game plan. I live in Wyoming and will be trailering my boat (18' Procraft) to the destination. Looking for my best chance at a 10lb bass. All options are open within a days drive of Wyoming. I'm currently researching Lake Fork, Sam Rayburn, Toledo Bend, Choke Canyon, Falcon Lake, and a few others. However, first hand experience always seems to trump online research. I have zero experience at any of these locations and will be looking to hire a guide day 1 with at least 8 days of fishing afterwards. What experiences and recommendations do you all have? Where do you think my best chance at a 10 is? Thanks. Chris
  8. After retiring from the AF 5 years ago I moved to NW Louisiana and met a great guy who got me into bass fishing. I grew up on Lake Erie fishing for yellow perch and walleye so bass was kind of foreign to me. I'm totally into it now. Living near so many world-class pieces of water has definitely helped. I spend most of my time on Lake Bistineau fishing stumps and creek channels when the giant salvinia allows it. I've made several trips down to Toledo Bend and Sam Rayburn as well. The Red River didn't get much attention from me this season because of the spring floods. Maybe I'll hit it up this fall/winter. I'm a voracious reader and will read everything I can. I've already used some of the information I've gleaned from this page out on the water (drop shotting grass lines on Sam Rayburn was awesome and productive). Cheers, Tony B
