  1. I recently talked with a store manager of a popular sporting goods store I've shopped at for years. He told me that the trend in bright colored rods and Reels was starting to fade out. He said" expect to see fewer lime green, orange, yellows and other bright colors on many of the newer rods and reels coming in". He also said that Shimano, with the new Vanford reels is leading the way here. Dark colors and not too flashy. Personally, I'm kind of relieved. I've always kind of preferred more traditional looking rods and reels, but, all of them will catch fish, and if you like the bright colors that's your choice. If any of this is true, we should expect to see more toned down colors on tackle next year. For many, it may not matter at all, just thought I'd throw this out there. Any thoughts or opinions? We'll have to wait and see....
  2. Hey BR, New video up on skipping jigs under docks, part 2 with an emphasis on mechanics, technique and gear is up. Hope you all like it! Thanks for watching, James N
  3. Going through my older rods, I found two Lews rods I bought years ago. One is a glass casting rod, the other is a TN( graphite) handle spinning rod, which I still use sometimes. Both these rods are marked Lew Childre and Sons, Alabama. A sporting goods store I shopped at carried the full line of Lews tackle in the 1980s. I think they were ahead of the pack years ago, and made some really good, innovative tackle. Top quality guides, unique handle styles etc. I think they still make some nice tackle now too. I know that the BB1 casting reel( the Paul Elias model) was made by Shimano. I've also seen some older spinning rods like mine for sale advertised as Lews Browning rods. Did Browning make some of the rods for the original company? What year did they become Lews, the current company? I later moved on to ABU and Shimano, and have liked them also, but this summer I'm dusting off my old Lews casting rod. The slight tip flex on this rod worked great years ago for lipless baits, spinnerbaits, and topwaters. Like many of us, I just had to have a faster, stiffer, graphite rod. Maybe not the best choice. Sometimes, old school is a better option. Anyone know about the Lews/ Browning connection here?
  4. Most folks, after they've fished for a number of years, develop certain preferences in rods and reels. What's the best for one person, may not work out for another. Do you prefer a straight grip or other? Cork handles or other material? Length and action on your favourite rods? Casting reels, round or low profile? A certain reel handle style? Spinning reels. Is there a general size you like the best? T handle or standard handle? AR switch or none? What are some of your definite preferences that you like best in your rods and reels?
  5. Hey BR Recently posted a video on my DIY/garage rod rack. I realize this is something that would work for a lot of guys, so I hope the information is helpful. Happy new year! -JN
  6. Hey guys, recently I found out about this company called *** who makes what looks to be nice, inexpensive rods and reels. I haven’t found anything on how good their products are. I’d like to get your guys opinions on their products

  8. Hello there fellow bass anglers. I have been saving up some of my money so I can buy a new rod at my town's Walmart, and I was wondering if the length of the rod could affect the number of good hooksets, or the number of fish hooked in general. The reel I have is a Bass Pro Shops Mega-cast (Spinning), and I've had it for 2 years, and use 12lbs mono-filament line on it. I'm thinking about getting a Shakespeare Ugly Stik, 7'0" medium action spinning rod. I'm only 5'5 but I'm not sure that that matters or not. I keep loosing fish due to late hook sets with my Daiwa Millionaire Classic casting rod, which is 6'0" in length. That too is a medium action rod. Will this longer, newer rod help me to hook more fish, or is it a matter of improving my reaction time? If possible, respond as soon as you can because I'm buying it either tomorrow night or Friday. Thanks.
