  1. First post, but I've gotten a ton of info from BR before signing up. I purchased my first baitcaster a few weeks ago and much prefer it over spinning reels now. I purchased the blackmax combo then and now I'm looking to get another reel and pole. I initially wanted to Lew's crush combo, but after some reading I've narrowed my focus down to the Dobyn's Fury 735C and the Shimano SLX reel. I'm mainly looking for something that can serve as jig, t-rig, and other sub surface presentations, so sensitivity is a must. I plan to use the blackmax combo for top water and spinning presentations. By the looks, the Fury 735C and SLX reel will cost around $230ish. My question, is this the best I can do for this price range or would the SLX combo be just as good? I haven't seen much talk about the SLX rod, so I don't know how sensitive it is compared to the Fury. I also considered some of the St. Croix rods. Feel free to offer up any suggestions (rod or reel) that may be better suited. Looking to stay under the $250 mark. Thanks in advance.
  2. Looking for a good pitching and flipping baitcasting rod and reel for jigs for bass. Around $150.00 do yall have any suggestions anything would be much appreciated, thanks.
  3. I need to find a good rod for my Abu Garcia REVO S Spinning Reel, anyone know any good rods to pair with that reel?? (It is the REVO2S30 model)
  4. Hi All, I'm new to the forum here, and I'm hoping you bass veterans can help me. I just purchased a new Pflueger 6'6"combination spinning rod and Pflueger President 6935X spinning reel on...(gasp)...Amazon. It arrived in good shape and looks great, BUT... When I hold the rod with the reel base passing between my middle finger and my ring finger, I find that the rod tip falls down VERY easily. I'm used to holding the rod in this "live-long-and-prosper" grip...have been used to it with all other spinning set-ups I have had. I am used to having the rod balance (or nearly balance) with my had in this position, and having to hold the rod tip up constantly is a bit of a distraction. I can see it being tiring when fishing all day long. I called the Pflueger folks, and their rep said that the balance point was about 5-6 inches forward of where the reel mount joing the rod! SO, my question is---- is this normal? I guess I could hold it forward of the mount, but I find that I get better control when my fingers bisect the mount. I'm thinking of returning the "Combo" and just purchasing the 6935x reel by itself and putting it on another rod. (My apologies if I have used the wrong names for the parts of the reel/rod.) Any insights would be much welcomed! Thanks to all, and good luck this season----
  5. I am a fairly new to bass fishing and am looking for some advice. I love to fish but really only have access to my local lake (Lake Norman, NC) from the bank in public fishing spots. I'm not very tall (about 5'6) and am trying to figure out what rod and reel setup to get. The areas where i fish are not very deep maybe 15ft max and have rocky bottoms. I'm fishing for large mouth and want to get something good all-around. Preferably spinning and less than 100$. Any tips?
  6. I'm thinking about upgrading my medium light finesse combo, I've been getting more into using an overall lighter setup and liking the results. It's versatile to where I can switch species and several techiques. It's pushing to be my next focused purchase. So what's your next technique combo going to be?
