  1. To start off I’m a stats nerd in spinning reels. I tend to fish more saltwater so I know all about what each spinning reel is designed for. However I started bass fishing for bass recently and was wondering if some expert here could help me understand what each of the following reels are meant for? Also how do the different models (I/k) affect the performance. Chronarch Aldebaran Bantam Metanium Antares Exsence Scorpion Also any recommendations y’all prefer? Looking for a long casting, fast retrieve/hg, 150 sized reel as a do everything rod. Hoping to find a used one for under $200. I won’t be throwing large swim baits so most of the stuff will be from 1/8 to 7/8. Would an MGL be too lightweight based? Shimano or Daiwa would be preferred. Thanks
  2. I have an Abu Garcia T5600c reel that's been collecting dust in my shop that I'm interested in letting go of. I've seen a few online anywhere from $400-$800. Would this reel be considered a collectors item now? Mine has the engraved side plate intact with no dents or scratches. I have a few pictures of it if anyone is interested.
  3. Hi I hope I found the right topic section I’m looking at getting some braid for my PENN Werfare boat rod with multiplier reel combo, not used braid before was wondering if I should go with a 40lb line or would this be too much for the rod/reel. only used mono before but was gonna run with a leader for mono, I was unsure of the length of braid I would need to by too was gonna get a 40lb 50m, it is just for some sea fishing mostly dog fish, pollock the occasional tope. any help would be great thx.
  4. This company is located in Missouri. Originally, they're reels were made in Missouri. Now, they're in China. My grandson brought over a new Ardent Finesse spinning reel he just bought to show me this weekend. Size 200, eight bearings. This seems like a nice reel in the 50.00 range. He hasn't had a chance to try it yet, but will give me his report soon. If you own one and have fished it enough to form an opinion, has it worked out well? What's the consensus on Ardent reels?
  5. Hey everyone, It's probably been about 8-10 years since I last posted on here, it's good to see these forums still around! I'm looking at potentially servicing reels and with that, I am looking for a reputable source to purchase quality bearings from (b2b). If you have any feedback or reviews on certain branded bearings I would also like to hear those! Thank you in advanced!
  6. Hi I am older and grew up using a Shakespeare 1810 reel. Over the years I have tried different reel types but I still go back to that type I grew up with. Funny thing is I now own about a half dozen different models from not only Shakespeare but South Bend too. Note I am not a collector, I fish these reels. As far as why? One thing set up right they are perfectly balanced and the line naturally lays across your finger so you can feel everything that your bait does. They never backlash and you can cast into the wind without issue. But all that is probably rationalization, I just like fishing them. If I could get new new version of these reels I would, some I am using were manufactured in the 1950s although they are holding up strong. Plus if you watch you can get them on eBay cheap. I just picked up numbers 6 and 7 for less than $20 including shipping. The hard part is getting rods that will work with the reels oddly enough. Vintage rods scare me a bit, I have three, but while glass doesn't fatigue, the 60 year old resin systems do. I have retired them and have started buying new spinning rods and replacing the grips. Plus you can't get a medium or medium heavy that fit. I just finished my 3rd and have three more coming in to work over the winter. I have to say that its been gratifying to catch fish on my modified rods and old reels. Below are excerts from some of the old manuals and picture of my gear if I can make it small enough (Mods how about increasing the picture size limit? Everyone's cells have good cameras now). Oh I replaced the bad handles, the 50s era ones have bakelite that falls apart of you look at it wrong
  7. I have had my DC reel for about 5 months now and I have it on an ALX Solo Deputy with 17lb fluoro. I does it job very well but I just think its on the heavy side especially when I switch to my Tatula CT Type R or Zillion. I want something that performs like that but lighter. Maybe its the rod that is making it feel heavy. Any thoughts would help, thanks.
  8. Hello peeps, I just bought a new jerkbait rod and settled on a Dobyns kayden 610-4cb the struggle now is I need a reel, I was torn between A curado k and a 13 fishing concept a2. However, I found a curado dc for 200$. Does anyone own a dc, for me longevity is important and the dc seems like it would take away some of the durability. i have owned some older curados and loved them but the concept a2 looks sweet as well and I’m thinking about it for a jig rod reel with that 25lbs of drag. However I have heard the curado k feels more powerful bc of the gears. Does anyone own these reels if so do you prefer the dc or the k for lighter baits, have you had any issues with reliability on the dc, and what are the thoughts on the concept a2 ?
  9. does anyone have the 13 fishing inception z, and if so what are your thoughts on it? is it worth the money?
  10. Hi eveyone just wanted to know, Whats your favorite rod or reel?
  11. Hello, guys, I'm on the market for new reel for lures around 1/4 oz, some of them maybe even less than 1/4. I.e. Keitech 2.8". I made my research and found that Lew’s Custom Lite SLP is one of the top recommended reels for such things, however, I didn't see anything bad about it. I mean I read a lot of benefits, but nobody tells about negative moments. Is it really perfect? Why I may want to buy it? Or Daiwa Alphas SV TW is my preferred choice for that? And again, why? Thank you beforehand for your opinion and feedback!
  12. I'm looking for a reel to use for skipping baits. I have a budget of about $250usd. any advice would be appreciated.
  13. Daiwa or Shimano both old companies Daiwa started in 1958 and Shimano started in 1921, both changed the fishing industry and build off one another. My question is which makes better reels? or are there companies that are making better reels? Are Lew's and Abu reels comparable to Shimano and Daiwa? What are yalls opinions?
  14. How much do you know about Bait Finesse System? Do you own a BFS reel for bass fishing? I was wondering why trout fishermen don’t use BFS reels since it’s difficult to start fly fishing. Lol
  15. Okay, so after fishing with the LFS for a few weeks now, i’m not completely sold on it, the thumb bar sometimes jams on me, and the reeling just sometimes feels like sand is stuck in it and it’s grinding, so right now i can either exchange it for another LFS (maybe i got an unlucky one) or exchange for SLX or pay difference for a Curado K... so is the curado K worth the extra money or is the SLX the better buy? I’m leaning more towards the curado simply for the looks of it, and i heard it’s extremely smooth.
  16. I was looking at places that I can get the lews tournament pro speed spool lfs and saw that amazon has it on for about $50 less then bass pro. does anyone have experience purchasing reels of of amazon and if so how good of shape were they in I've heard of people ordering new reels and getting old beat up ones. your input would be very much appreciated.
  17. Good Morning All, I am looking to get the new Shimano Exsence reel but need some input. Which model should I get, 3000 or the 4000? I fish mostly small lakes and ponds but of course bigger lakes too. I target pretty much Largemouth exclusively but some times crappie, walleye, smallmouth etc. Thank y'all very much for your future input! Joey Smith
  18. Sorry i have been asking so much about these two reels, but waiting for their restock has got me doing more research about the two reels. Do You prefer the SLX or SLX XT and besides the svs infinity system in the XT, what other features set it apart from the SLX? I know some people say for $30 it is not worth it, but i found a deal to get it for only $18.
  19. Is the XT worth the extra few bucks? because the XT is not in the retrieve i want and the rod size is not either... but in the SLX my retrieve is available and i can just get a 6’10 or 7’5 MH rod... does anyone know if the discount is year around or if i don’t get something soon i might miss out
  20. Shimano,KastKing,Abu Garcia, Okuma, and Pflueger are just such examples.
  21. Hey everyone. Just ordered a Shimano Vanford VF2000HG to pair with my new 6'10 ML Expride. Anyone else preorder? Anyone think it's overhyped? Will it outclass the Daiwa Ballistic? Let's hear your thoughts!
  22. I just bought a lews IM7 and am having a hard time handling backlash. Ive got the cap on where it needs to be but cant get the brake right. Any answers? PS: im using monofilament 10# line
  23. I have been trying to decide on what reel I should get and I have been having some difficulty choosing. The two reels that have been on my mind lately is the Curado DC and Chronarch MGL. I would like to know if one is smaller then the other and if there is a difference in the casting distance. I am planning to use it for either frogs or jigs, but I am not sure. If you guys could give me your preferences on both reels it would be amazing, and if you have had any negative experiences please let me know too! Thank You!
  24. I started fishing last year, and the tackle monkey has ridden me to buy 3 reels, all 7to1 ratio, that I have been rotating between my 2 rods, a heavy, xfast and a med heavy, fast. I'll probably be buying another. The reels are a Bantam, Curado K, and a Metanium DC. I'm a bank fisherman. And enjoy all techniques. I would like to know how you guys would pair up these reels and what would be their best uses.
  25. So, I have 5 baitcasting rods and 5 reels. I'm looking for opinions on which reels to mount on which rods.
