  1. Looking for a nice set of reels - believe in having a matched set - need recommendations. For years, I was using Quantum PT reels - I lost a few at the lake and also broke one and then the search begain about 3 years ago to find replacement set. Of course, I tried Quantum Smoke - they are great, just a bit disappointed in the feel of the thumb trigger - feels cheap with a line in the plastic casting. The spinning reels just didn't have same quality of the older PTs. So, I tried Diawa last year - and frankly the spinning reels Feugo - lots of line twist and tangles - not sure - maybe its me. But, not a fan of handles. End of this year I bought just two Lews reels - one Custom Speed Spin Spinning reel S200 and a Custom Speed Spool Casting reel CG1H. I love the feel of the baitcaster, but the spinning reel is very heavy feeling. So, help me choose....tell me why you use the brand you do now and what has good product in the 200 dollar price range for the reel. I don't really want to spend more - with 14 rigs usually in my setup it gets expensive quick. Rods - I am on a similar search - but narrowing that down to St. Croix Premier. But, I have to say the Lews Speed Stick LITE is impressive for the price point. My goal ultimately is to have a set of rods and reels with a similar feel and function - I am a firm believer when I was at the top of my game - I had a matched set and it matters! The last 3 years have been tough fishing for me and although I know its me more than the equipment; I want to rule that out. Going from being a State Qualifier to one of the worst locally is humbling. I know time on the water will make more difference than rods/reels - but want to get back to that confidence I had with Quantum Reels and Falcom rods (sure wish they still sold the old style Cara rods!). Any suggestions and let me know what you use woudl help - I don't want a Ford Chevy thing - but honest feedback on my current choice Lews and something other to consider.
  2. I saw that this reel won Outdoor Life's Best Value Buy for $130 for 2019. They say it casts farther than most reels. What are people who've actually used this reels thoughts on it?
  3. I've been eyeing the Smoke S3 for a while for my new setup and then when I learned of the new Tatula I started eyeing that. The Smoke S3 has only good reviews all over the internet including TackleTour's review and on TW, it looks great, and it has big spool capacity. My main interest with the new Tatula is the size, I am a teenager and I have rather small hands and I think this new tatula would fit my hand a bit better than the Smoke. I know Quantum hasn't had the bigggest following lately, but people are saying the S3 series reels are extremely good reels and i can't find a single bad review, the only problem I heard was throwing light baits and I don't plan on throwing anything under like 3/8 oz plus a trailer. I know there are a lot of hardcore daiwa fans on here so I'm probably going to get a lot of "just go with the Tatula no doubt" but I hope to hear from some people with experience with the Smoke. Just give me your most honest opinion please. Thanks, Harrison btw the rod its almost 100% going to be put on is a Dobyns Sierra if that helps you answer for some reason.
  4. Couldnt make icast, but the next best thing is watching new product showcasing on tackle warehouse. I think this is the best video so far. I'm not saying it's the best product, but I like what Quantum is doing; and I think Gerald Swindle really knows how to reach the consumer. You gotta love the comical one liner at the end! If you like this video or others from icast, feel free to share those videos here.
  5. I’ve tried many jig rods but haven’t sound the one. Anyone have any recommendations I want to keep it below 175. I really want to try the quantum G force rods or the quantum smoke s3 anyone tried those? Also if anyone has used the quantum rods which would be better for jigs about 3/8 to 1/2 the 7’4 heavy or the 7’2 medium heavy? If anyone has experience with these quantum rods or a good jig rod please let me know.
  6. When I started throwing frogs for largemouth bass, I was under the impression that if I matched the local forage I would be in a position to give the fish what they were feeding on the most in the region that I was fishing in. Here in central Ontario, most bass fed on leopard frogs which are either green or brown on the topside and usually white on the bottom. Some bass would eat bullfrogs on occasion which were green with a yellow coloured belly. Really, it came down to what was found on the body of water I was fishing. So when it came time to buy my frogs, I focused on green leopard frog patterns that came with a white/yellow type of belly. I rounded out my selection based on what frog fishing guru Dean Rojas stated during one of his many interviews, selecting a couple of all black and all white frogs. Every hollow bodied frog purchased was one of the Spro Bronzeye family. Little did I know how important those selections would be. Over the last few days I found myself in swamp after swamp, searching for some big largemouth to inhale my green leopard frog patterned lures. I saw the frogs hopping around everywhere, so I was pretty sure I could convince the fish to eat what I was throwing. It started well and I was catching fish on numerous casts but nothing over 1lbs in size. Believing that I was throwing the right lure as I was getting bites, I continued using this frog the next day…but while the numbers were there, the size was lacking. So I decided to make a switch. I looked through my box of topwater lures and decided to tie on an all black frog. I threw the new colour into the same water with the same retrieve that I used on the leopard frog patterned lure, only this time the fish were all over it and were bigger in size. Suddenly I was connecting with fish in the 2-3lbs range and nothing smaller which made me one happy camper. The weather was a mix, with the sun being out sometimes and overcast at others. The fish were relating to lily pads and dock edges with lead in cover. I know that time will tell if this pattern of larger fish liking black frogs will hold up, but for now, I’m definitely a convert and believer that black frogs catch more and bigger fish than the classic leopard patterned ones. As many of you know I’m a devout Daiwa product user, but this time I wanted a change. Working at Bass Pro, I want to make sure that I was using gear that other anglers had expressed an interest in so that I could provide them with feedback on its performance. After speaking with the Canadian frogman Pete Garnier about rod selection, he outlined the benefits of the Quantum Smoke 7’ MHF action rod and the success he had found with it while frog fishing here in Canadian waters. I matched the rod with a Team KVD left handed bait casting reel with a 7.0:1 gear ratio and an amazing 16lbs of drag behind it. After loading it with 65lbs timber brown Power Pro Super 8 Slick, I felt confident that I could horse big fish out of the slop I was expecting to fish and this combo didn’t disappoint. Below are two fish, showing the difference in size when it came to fishing the two different coloured frogs. Cheers, and sorry for the long write up but I really wanted to share my experience on this the start of my hollow bodied frog journey. I was mentioning to a friend that I’ll probably have a whole box devoted to frogs by the end of the summer…and that’s not such a bad idea I think.
  7. Hello everyone! So I took apart my dads reel to clean it, got everything back in but now it clicks in the retrieve with the anti reverse engaged. I started this project last night, and have been messing with it trying to stop the clicking, I found a schematic for a quantum B2/B3 that seems to be exact. With that figured out I lost the silent cam spring so after hour crawling on the floor looking for it I found it lol! Now I don't know which at it faces (up or down) and if it goes in the slot on the ar pawl. I imagine it does but every time I assemble it the cam pops off or continues to click. Any help on how exactly to put this bugger in I'll be greatly appreciated! ??? thank you for any help.
  8. Just wanted to give an honest review after my first month of getting this reel. At first I was battling back and forth between getting a Diawa Balistic and a Shimano stradic ci4+. I finally settled on the smoke as not many people have it in my area and I hadn't heard much about it. After a month of use I've hooked into fish ranging from <1lb to over 10lb and it has preformed flawlessly. The drag is super smooth and I haven't had any issues. Running 15lb powerpro with a 8lb seaguar blue label leader/ 10lb invisx leader for salmon/trout.
  9. I have a quantum Kevin van dam signature series baitcasting pole it's green 6'6" it say spinnerbait on the pole, I broke it coming back from a fishing trip so I would like to find the same pole because I don't want to spend to much on a new pole until I have the money for a dobyns. Please help me find the same pole
  10. I just saw this and dont really have a clue about a Quantum baitcaster but if it was a $300 reel it has to be one hell of a good reel for $99 right? http://www.cabelas.com/product/bargain-cave/rock-bottom-deals/fishing-boating%7C/pc/105591780/c/105642180/sc/105647580/quantum-174-exo-pt-casting-reel/1871578.uts?destination=%2Fcatalog%2Fbrowse%2Ffishing-boating%2F_%2FN-1102654%2FNs-CATEGORY_SEQ_105647580 I see about once a day guys asking about the best reel for $100 surely this is a steal. OK experts so whats the deal is it a decent buy? Quantum® EXO PT Casting Reel Regular Price: $299.99 Sale Price: $99.99
  11. Anyone have or has heard of anyone using the Quantum KVD Baitcast Combo? MSRP is $129.99, but one of the local Wal-Mart's has a couple on clearance, I have looked around for some reviews online but haven't found anything solid. Any and all replies will be greatly appreciated. http://www.walmart.com/ip/Quantum-KVD-Baitcast-Combo/22172335
  12. I'm looking for a new crankbait reel and I want something with a 5:1 ratio. I basically have my mind set on the Shimano Chronarch 201e5, but I wanted to know if anyone knew of any other reel out there that's a better choice. Keep in mind, I need something left handed. Thanks everyone.
  13. The Quantum Energy PTI reel is currently on sale for 60$ from 140$ at Cabelas. Seems kinda fishy that a reel would be priced so low, do you guys know if theres something wrong with the reel? Some complain about the lack of an anti revers switch but I don't really need that. Thanks so Much!
  14. Once these Duckett Ghost rods come out, I'm looking for a few options to try on these rods. There is something about Abu that really draws me to their products, but I never really bought them. I have last generations Quantum Accurist, which I like a good bit. It's almost like you have to be an idiot to get a backlash with it. So yeah seeing which one you would prefer, I already know how good Lew's are, so I'm leaving them out of this topic. So the Quantum Catalyst, Abu S/SX. Although I was thinking is the Abu S much different in quality and casting distance as the new Orra SX? Sorry for some questions that may seem kind of repetitive on other posts, I just like to have a lot of opinions. I'm constantly thinking of my options and what I want to do next, it's almost unhealthy! Thanks
  15. Hello, I am new to this forum, and kinda knew to this so be easy on me.... But i was wondering, what are some good after market bearings and or parts i could use on my Abu Revo Elite? I was wanting to upgrade my reel for better casting performance, But i wasn't sure on any brands or if there are any after market parts available at all? All comments appreciated... Thank you for your time -John
  16. Can anyone help me with how to take apart a Qauntum Burst Baitcaster BU660CX reel? I can't seem to figure out how to take the side plate off to figure out why the level wind isn't working.
  17. Looking for a reel that will cast far, smooth, last a long time, has a good drag, etc. These are probably my two favorite companies so it is hard for me to choose. I want to know which one you would choose and why. I think i narrowed it down to these two since my last post. Also the Abu Revo SX could be an option, what do you think? Thanks
  18. Was browsing Wally-World's website and found this: http://www.walmart.com/ip/Quantum-Smoke-SL150HPT-Bait-Cast-Reel/16523902 I have all the rods & reels I could possibly use. Good luck.
  19. Alright so I'm looking to get a reel for my spinner-bait rod. I'm assuming most everyone will say the Lew's but I just want to hear everyone's opinions. The Catalyst is $120 and the Tournament is $130. They will be in the "burner" ratios (7.0:1.). Yep, so all I'm asking is which one would you choose. Also there is a Revo S for about the same price but I'm not too interested. So yeah give me your opinions on why you would get one over the other and so forth. Also the reel will be going on a *** Black 7'1" mh. Thanks!
  20. went out for my first time this year and boy was it a good day nothing big but caught 9 in my hr of fishing before it got to cold here. nothing too big to write about.. no thanks to pb&j rage tail craw they were crushing it w/ my new light weight graphit rod made my quantum made my day a success
  21. I use a St Croix 6' Medium/Fast rod mostly for bass and I'm looking for opinions on reels that cost around $250 and less. So far settle on two: Shimano Stradic CI4 and Quantum EXO Pti If you have another reel for me to consider and it's around $250 or less please suggest. FIRE away with your opinions Many thanks in advance Bob
  22. Fellow bass anglers, Good day!! I have a Quantum Burst bait casting combo that I bought last year from Gander Mountain. So far I really like the combo. It has an IM8 Rod and the reel is outfitted (pretty sure) with a 6-4:1 gear ratio. It's my first experience with with a bait caster. It's seems like it's decent quality for $70.00. I was wondering if anyone else has this combo and can give me an idea how it stacks up against other combos in the same price range also what the think of it? I additionally have a Abu Garcia Revo SX married up with a carrot stix micro guide on the way. What do you guys think? Thanks!!
  23. So I got a coupon offer from quantum for 40% off any reel and 50% off any rod. I need a 7'2" - 7'6" Heavy action rod to use as a swimbait/frog/flipping rod and reel combo.(A 7'6" H x-fast action Exo will only run me $89 so I pretty much have to do it.) I'm partial to Powell rods and don't have any experience with the Quantum Exo or Smoke rods. I assume the Exo is a better rod because it's more expensive? Does anyone have experience with either the smokes or Exo rods such as how fast the tips are, sensitivity, accurate power rating? I will also be getting a new reel and I don't know what to get Smoke/Exo. I own a smoke 151Hpt and like it but kinda wanna try an exo. However, they only have the exo100 series in stock for lefties. Is the spool capacity the only difference between the Exo 300,200,and 100 series?
  24. I'm having trouble dialing in the ACS braking system on my Smoke. I'll be fine for one lure, and then can't make a cast without having to fix a backlash. It doesn't always happen on the lighter lures, either. I throw weightless worms fine, then backlash on a lipless crankbait. It's got me a bit confused. Any advice?
  25. Hey everyone, I was just wondering if anyone has used the Quantum Kinetic reel? They are offered for good prices online, but I can't find many reviews on them. My girlfriend was going to buy me one for Valentine's Day but asked me first what I thought. Any thoughts?
