  1. Hi, This might have been posted before, but I was not able to find anything on it..so please forgive me if it has. Anyway...I have had my Curado DC for about 6 months...really like it other than the fact that when I cast (on occasion), my 15 pound braid somehow gets a Birdsnest in it mid cast and will only cast out for a few feet before it stops because of the birdsnests. It's frustrating. Happens in all conditions (no wind, wind, etc.). I use for the most part weightless flukes and use the 2nd setting on it. I have re-spooled it a couple of times to see if that works...even took off about 20 yards of line to see if that would help too. I have noticed when I reel in, my braid is never spooled tight...is this normal? Don't know if this causing the problem. I have read about some Curados being defective...just don't know if this something I'm doing or if it could be defective. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thank you
  2. Ok folks, I am stumped. Did a little bit of salt water fishing the past few days, and I rigged/paired a few bass rigs with something more suitable for speckled trout and redfish. So here’s the situation... I took my Daiwa Tatula 100 6.3:1 and Tatula XT 100 7.3:1 and spooled them up with 30# Power Pro. I had each one on an unnamed 7’ MF rod. Same brand, same power, same action, same rod. The standard Tatula was casting like a dream, but I really needed a faster reel to keep up with the trout when they bit and ran towards me. However, when I picked up the XT, I just couldn’t get the distance I was getting with the other. I’m very familiar with the braking system and how to set them, and I set each one as close to exactly the same as you can get. Does anyone have any insight as to why I couldn’t cast the XT as well as the other?
  3. My buddy has a Daiwa T3 Ballistic 100h baitcast reel and it is impossible to cast without backlashing it. Brakes are turned all the way up and it backlashes. I tried taking the side plate off and it was very greasy/oily on the braking components, so I cleaned it off with rubbing alcohol and it casted fine for 2 casts and then backlashed horribly again. I repeated those steps about 3 times and then I ran out of line. It's not just a little nest either. It normally ruins the whole spool of line. I am very familiar with baitcast reels, as is he. We fish them multiple times a week, so its not like we don't know how to cast. We both have Lew's, *** and BPS reels. I have no idea where the oil would be coming from or if it has anything to do with it. I recently took the whole sideplate and spool and soaked it in rubbing alcohol. Same results. If anyone experienced this or has a suggested fix, please let me know.
  4. Hello! So I have an Abu Garcia Ambassadeur 5500 c3 2 speed that I have had since I was younger. When I was younger I did take it apart a few times, so I may have lost a piece or two, but in general the reel works. Except! There are 3 problems with the reel that I would like fixed but I can't figure out what is wrong. I have taken it apart a few times and assembled to spec but it still doesn't perform ideally. First, the over-spin problem. If I spin the handle quickly while the reel is engaged, the spool will spin like normal. But if I suddenly stop cranking the handle, then the reel will continue to spin for half a second and make a clicking noise, as if the spool is spinning over the "clutch" that engages/disengages when you turn the handle/push the button. Second, the dog-tooth gear works fine, but the play in the handle is still a little more significant than I would like. Is there anything I can do about that? And lastly, the 2 speed shifting doesn't appear to be working anymore. Is there a more detailed explanation on how it works somewhere online? I would love to learn how the mechanics of it work coming from someone who knows more than me about it! Any response will help, and I'll do what I can to answer any questions that would help lead to the answer! Thank you!
  5. Within a couple months I will be purchasing my first glass bass boat (used). I have talked to a couple guys who own newer rigs and have scoured the internet to try to get an idea on what I can afford and what issues to look for. My biggest concern is having to foot a large repair bill for a blown powerhead or other expensive outboard troubles. I will probably end up with an outboard between 150 and 200 hp. Are there some makes and models that I should stay away from that have known issues? Are there any you recommend looking at? If i have to shell out a large amount of money to repair something that I should have avoided in the first place, after already spending a pile of money on purchasing the boat, it may drive me right over the edge... Thanks for any help.
  6. Hello Everyone, I am new to the forum so forgive me if this isn't in the right spot. However, I have a Shimano bait caster that I was given a year ago. Because of how busy I was this last year, I used it once (5 casts). Then, the reel started making a strange clicking sound. It is almost like it starts and stops, hitting some sort of part that causes the resistance. I am not super familiar with the parts terminology. However, I have taken the reel apart several times and cleaned, degreased, relubed, etc. The problem really only occurs when I close the case of the reel covering the centrifugal braking system. To be more clear, I will leave the side open exposing the brakes. This allows the spool to spin freely and feel very smooth. When I close and lock the case, problem reoccurs. I'm kinda stumped and really don't want to pay the $35 or whatever if it is simply a small alignment fix. I can take pictures or whatever as needed to help explain. I would appreciate any help I can get! Franky
  7. I've been having some problems with my yo zuri hybrid line and wanted to know if anybody else had the same complications? I got 14 lb test and its been breaking around or in the reel. I've gotten a few birds nest but not a crazy amount, does that have anything to do with it? Ive lost a few lures and a fish or two and im not happy about that this is also my first baitcaster, maybe im doing something wrong? All input is appreciated!
