  1. I have a neighbor with a very small pond in his yard that I have been given permission to fish. The first day I caught 7 on various lures, and since then I’ve gone maybe 3-4 times a week for the past month or so. Over time the fishing has gotten drastically tougher and I even got skunked the last 2 outings. I’m beginning to think I overfished the pond and the bass have become hook shy. Does anyone else have a similar experience or some input? I plan to let it breathe for the next couple months and see what happens.
  2. Growing up, my Dad would always say things like "Back before Kentucky froze over in 1986, you could go out rabbit hunting and come home with at least 4 rabbits guaranteed" or "When I was a kid we used to catch 50 keeper bluegill like it was nothing." The population, pressure, and pollution has almost certainly increased from say the 1960's-70's. I live in Louisville, KY and all the lakes nearby see a TON of pressure. But sometimes I forget that in most lakes there is some type of government wildlife management at work. Do you all think the fishing was better or worse in the past as it is now? I'm 28 and always tell myself "If there wasn't so much dang pressure on these lakes I'd be catching 4 pounders all day." Should I stop giving myself that excuse?
  3. what would you consider LOW, NORMAL, and HIGH barometric pressure?
  4. I've decided that, that for three days I will disclose three new rigs I've discovered (two of which I've developed myself.) Day three's rig is the squid rig. Take a starfish bait/small pre-made octo rig and your favorite finesse worm. Heat up the head of the worm and the midsection of the starfish rig (over a burner) and attach the two. This rig is great in overpressured waters. In a pressured Izaak Walton lake near my house with stained water, this allows me to use a new finesse rig, that, with more appendages, displaces more water and provides a more inconspicous, yet still unthreatening profile. On a shakey head it is seductive and on a dropshot rig, with more surface area than a regular fluke/worm, it moves more with less current. Tips: Just one for today...THE BATHTUB TEST Fill up your bathtub and take those new lures you have into the throne room. Tie some line to The bait and test it out. This allows you to see its action and what cadence, retreive, rigging, speed, and cover the lure will work in. If you have a pool, even better (don't use the lure for 24 hours after so as to let the chlorine evaporate) This will give you more confidence and education as to its best uses.
