  1. New PB and the first bass I've caught to break into the 8lb range. She weighed on the digital scale right at 8lbs 0oz. Super stoked to catch a fish this big, looking forward to more and bigger ones in the future ?. Figured I'd post her here to document the catch. Goodluck out there ya'll, go catch some bigguns!
  2. Hi! This is my first post here on BassResource, I hope this will be a great experience. I have grandparents living at a golf course in south Florida. I've been fishing there most of my life but could never figure out the spawn patterns. I'm visiting them next week. I've read a lot about how bass in Florida have a mind of their own and they spawn whenever they feel like it. I've been hearing different reports that they have been in prespawn, others that they are already spawning. I've never fished prespawn or spawn, would anyone be able to help me figure out what the bass are doing and some lure/technique recommendations? My trip and conditions: Mon 1/20-Fri 1/24. Rain showers Mon, Thu, Fri, otherwise mostly sunny. Temperature will be increasing throughout the week. West wind Mon, Tue, Wed, east wind Thu, Fri. Moon is waning until the new moon on Fri. Temp. will increase by the day up to 75F. Thank you for your help, and I hope I get to meet a few friends along the way! Henry
  3. Been thinking about fishing the prespawn once the ice melts where I am at. The prespawn has always been a difficult season for me. What are people’s top 3 lures/presentations for the prespawn and how do you fish them during the pre-spawn?
  4. This is my third video of some highlights from April including my Fiance's first bass. Took some of yall's comments on board and found a software program that will work on my laptop (kind of).
  5. Hey, everyone. New to the forums. Did a bunch of searches and didn’t find what I was looking for. Anyone have insight into Smallie fishing on Lake Seymour in the Northeast Kingdom? I’ll be up with a group of guys over Memorial Day Weekend and with the spring we’ve had it’s definitely looking like we’ll be hunting for pre-spawn bass. Any tips as to where we may have some luck would be greatly appreciated. I’m familiar with the lake, but haven’t fished it enough to really know their patterns. Thanks!
  6. Hey so I recently learned that some guys use topo maps to identify places bass might hold during the winter, and then move to when they’re spawning. They then draw lines from the deep ridges to the flats that they think would hold some solid prespawn largemouth. This is my attempt at just one small portion of this reservoir. Can anyone give me some insight if these red lines would be good lines to fish, assuming the fish are in prespwan.
  7. Just caught 2 nice bass using red eye shad lipless. Actually first time I’ve had success ever with lipless. Normally I use shakey head worm or jig. Any suggestions for cold pa lake fishing in early March?
  8. I have been told the best place to find fish during this time of year is to find the clearest water on the lake. Regardless if this is true or not I have never been told how to find this without running all day long looking. I know the wind and bottom content have to do with it but I don't have a process that I know will point me toward the clearest water without taking a lot of time looking. What process do you use to find the clearest water?
  9. Not sure if it is pre spawn, or spawning time in my lake, how can I really tell?
  10. I've recently been getting deeply into finesse cranking ... I've been catching a lot more fish in pressured and clear water this winter this way. Even down to depths of 15ft with small but finely tuned baits . I've been testing out some of the newer baits (bling 55) and some of the older ones (shad rap) and the today my raid level cranks . These are the first horizontal swimming slow sinking crankbait . Though the bait sinks it is able to balance itself on its hooks and sit off of the bottom. I wanted to take it to a clear deep water resevoir but it didn't come in the mail until after my sons came home so paddle boat behind the house it was again today. At first glance the bait is extremely small and to the eye you'd think it was harder to cast than a #2 shad wrap, but you'd be wrong . Casts like a xr25 or better . Also the hooks are extremely small and have some full coating on them that I believe actually protects them. I was hesitant about the hooks but too hyped to throw the bait to change it . Plus I wanted to give it a fair shot . The bait does crank differently than any crankbait I've ever felt while reeling in. It does not come with a split ring , just line tie direct. It tracks straight though and the pause has a deadly shiny . Threw it for about 40 minutes and got one bite . It got slammed by lower 6lb fish. Needless to say now my son thinks he needs 25 dollar baits to catch fish like dad... Even though he was throwing a just as good bling 55 that I'd caught a 7lber on in the same spot couple days ago . Right now the water is still a little colder than the bass like it in va. But i will be definitely using this bait a lot more . Just at 25 dollars a bait it's hard to feel safe in anytbing but grass for me lol . But I definitely think this is a good bait and would recommend fellow members to give it a shot . I doubt many have something like it in your box . Since there was little info written about or on it before I bought mine I decided to try to share the wealth . Just don't fish against me with it:) Was thrown on a 7ft medium action duckett micro magic spinning rod . Stradic ci4+ , 8lb fireline original , 8lb Floro leader .
  11. Hey guys, what jerkbaits do you use for Smallmouth? I saw a general jerkbait forum that had lots of good info and it got me wondering about smallmouth specifically. Do you down size? Any particular go-to colors? Preferred brand? Divulge!
  12. The pre-spawn is underway around me and im wondering during pre-pawn does time of day matter? Early morning and evening fishing still the way to go? I mainly bank fish and I always feel like if im not out fishing by 7:30am its not worth going out? Im pretty new to fishing so im not really sure how important time of day is.
  13. The water I frequent has shot up from mid-40s to mid-60s and pushing on towards 70 in a matter of 2-3 weeks. My pre-spawn planned patterns would shot when I noticed this water temp and the only thing I got bit by was a 3lb bowfin.
  14. Hey guys, my family just bought this cabin up on lake alice near seattle. I've been coming up here to fish for about 3 years now and have always struggled to catch bass. It is always stocked with about 8,000 rainbow trout every March. I've caught one 4 pound largemouth on the southeast bank where it drops and another small one in the Same spot. Both were during summer. I've worked that spot dry over the past couple years and I feel like I've fished all aspects of the lake with absolutely no luck. The worst part is that every now and then in the summer I can see some big ones swimming around. I've worked the docks multiple and some of the drop offs on the north side with jigs, dropshot senkos and crankbaits. Still, it's a good day if I get a bite. The southeast side is almost one huge flat passed the point. Now that I'm going to be spending a lot of time on this lake, I want to figure out these suckers. What would you suggest on finding and catching these bass?
  15. I live on a 30 mile long lake that is shaped like a river. Its widest point i think is 300 ft and is 30 miles long. It winds through central louisiana. I have tried getting out to go bass fishing for the last month with very little luck at all. Ive only caught one fish with bouncing a jig through a fallen tree. The lake does not have much contour change at all. Its just shallow on the edge and deep in the midlle which is about 8ft deep. So theres not much change for the movement of the fish that happens on larger lakes. It may sound like a horrible place to fish but it is known for produceing good bass fishing. I just need to know how to fish it. The only structure is probably some fallen trees along the bank although there is tons of boat houses. I just need advice on how to fish this at this time of year.
  16. I am new to fishing prespawn bass. What do the bass want? Plastics? Jigs? Lures? I am fishing in Michigan on a lake that is mostly clay, sand, and marl. The waters are still in the 50's-60's. He lake goes to about 35 ft deep and has steep drop offs. The water is dark typically about 2-3 ft of visibility. I'm open to all suggestions. I've tried Texas rigs and jigs and nothing and I know there in there. Thank you!
  17. Hey there! So lately I have had the feeling the winter is pretty much over up here in New York. We already had our peak snow storms and now the weather has been 45-55 degrees lately. It seems quite early and maybe the temps will drop again, but i am hopeful for the alternative. I've got all new gear and lures ready to go; now I just need there to be fish to catch. The ponds I usually fish were probably frozen around 2 weeks ago, but only lightly. The water temperature has probably warmed to the low 40's or mid 40's based off the fact that they had been frozen, but we have received lots of warm rainy days and thunderstorms as if it were March or April, so it may have warmed significantly. Prior to the New Year, I had been fishing at least twice a week at multiple spots, trying all types of lures: flipping jigs, rattletraps, deep divers, jerkbaits, crank baits, senkos and I have worked them respective to the bass’s slow metabolism. During these daily winter fishing trips from November to Late December I caught nothing. After Christmas Break hit I gave up winter fishing, and since then I haven’t gone. The last time I caught a bass was late October and the bass then were slamming! They were feeding heavy for the “cold” winter. This winter hasn’t been that cold, however, as it feels like we have reached our coldest days with a snow storm around New Year’s Eve, and temps dropped to mid to high single digits. All of the snow quickly melted as lots of warmer rain came pouring down in the following days. In late December I actually attempted some bait, I was so desperate to catch something and I normally only use lures/ live frogs , and I still caught nothing. I was looking at future temperature predictions and it’s only uphill with few dips in temperature from here on. I know March is probably the best time to start back up for pre-spawn but I can’t wait any longer. I’ve tried multitudes of hobbies to help distract me from my fishing addiction but its hasn’t ceased my pain. I’ve bought new gear, put fresh line on reels, spied on birds, scavenged google earth for ponds and underwater structure, worked out, ran winter track, watched people catching lots of nice Florida bass on YouTube, studied weather predictions to plan my first day back in action and did school work. I hope this winter is pretty much over Thanks for reading! Thoughts are much appreciated!
  18. Hey guys, I went fishing this morning and got skunked. I tried everything- jigs, spinnerbaits, crank baits, finesse and T-rig. I am a bank fisherman and the temp (air) was about 45 degrees when I was fishing, and it has been colder the past days. I think that the fish were too deep for me to reach them because of the cold water temp. I plan on going fishing a few days this week (from shore), the temp is supposed to be high of 60's all week. What would be the best time of day to go? Should i go mid-day so it is warmer and the fish will be shallower or should I just stay home. Thanks in advance!
  19. Check out this video if this fatty I caught before the spawn. She was on a dock in 3 ft of water. I missed her the first time but she came right back for it after I got it back in there. 3lb. 9oz. Nothing but belly!
