  1. Midwest Illinois fisherman here interested in buying a Megabass Magdraft. I have a lot of confidence in buying, trying and fishing new baits but always struggle with being indecisive about what color to buy. I mostly kayak fish lakes with lots of vegetation, rocky bottoms and plenty of shiners, minnows, crappie, sunfish and bluegill as forage for largemouth bass. Considering buying both 6 and 8” options I would appreciate some suggestions for choosing color.
  2. Hello! This is my first post on the forums so bear with me. I have been trying to get into bass fishing, but haven't had much success (I have only been bass fishing once so that's probably why but anyways). I'm pretty sure that the spawn has passed on my local lakes here in SoCal (Casitas, Cachuma, Piru, Castaic, Pyramid). I've heard that swim jigs are good to catch post-spawn to early summer bass. My question is: What are the best colors, techniques, gear, line, etc? Really, any tips to catch bass during this time period would help a lot. Also, I have a kayak but I won't be able to get it out onto the water until summer at the earliest, so I'm limited to the shore for now. Thanks for any advice!
  3. Hey fellow Virginian's, anyone been down to Lake Chesdin recently? What's the water level like on it right now? Normal or lower? And anyone know where the lake is at spawn wise? It'll be the first place I'll be fishing once I'm back from some military training soon. Any knowledge would be appreciated
  4. Hey everybody the river I fish is in post spawn right now or that's what I was told lol the waters close to 80. I'm a lil new to bass fishin always been in the salt but I was wondering after you launch you're boat what do you target first like little canals, docks, grass mats,wood,etc... I know every lake, river don't have the same features but I can get an idea where to go and where I should be goin on throughout the day and also give me an idea of what you would throw, Just kind of want an idea of what some expirenced people would target first. Thanks Ya
  5. I was out fishing this Sunday at my favorite stretch of river near my house. It was on and off cloudy that day with a 5-10 mph south east wind. It had rained HARD Thursday and Friday so I already came in expecting a muddy water day, which it was. So I go to my favorite muddy water spot, a nice outside bent with some flooded bushes and lay downs in three to five feet right next to the main channel drop off. Last weekend I had a 10lb bag just off that spot. Nothing massive but it shows the spots potential nonetheless. On a day like today this spot is textbook. One would expect the bass to be shallow and on cover on a muddy day like today... but noooo. I only catch one dink off the spot, and then continue for the next two hours to fish every good shallow spot I could think of, and only one fish. I saw a TON of blue hereon around plus shad jumping and took the hint thinking the fish would be feeding on shad, but zero bites shallow, both flipping and power fishing. About an hour later, i'm a little discouraged and my girlfriend has taken to sunbathing. I see another nice looking stump about 60 yards away and I start to troll over to fish it, but in between me and it is a semi steep clay/rock bank on the outside bend. I think what the heck and get out a rattle trap, I mean I might as well i'm passing it anyways. 5 casts and five fish later my whole outlook on dirty water fishing has changed. I catch five in a row on this bank on a trap. These fish must have just been roaming feeding on shad. I catch one more that day on a white tube flipped to a stump. The lesson I want everyone to take from this is one that Ike says all the time, no preconceived notions. I went in with the mindset that the fish would be tight to cover and shallow because the water is dark. They did end up being shallow, but scattered and roaming on a seemingly featureless bank. Once again the fish seem to throw a curve ball from the so called "rules" of bass fishing. Next time any of you are being stumped on a seemingly textbook day, try something completely opposite of whats supposed to work, you just might be surprised.
  6. Not sure if it is pre spawn, or spawning time in my lake, how can I really tell?
  7. The water I frequent has shot up from mid-40s to mid-60s and pushing on towards 70 in a matter of 2-3 weeks. My pre-spawn planned patterns would shot when I noticed this water temp and the only thing I got bit by was a 3lb bowfin.
  8. What is the best time of year to flip and pitch in heavy cover? would it be from the spawn through early post spawn or the colder months? all help is appreciated
  9. This is a forum on bass behavoir right now: are they bedded or cruisin the shallows, are they agressive or suspended on ledges, etc... I'm in illinois and i've had a little luck on ledes and points due to the fluctuating weather we've been having, but, given that said weather is stabilizing, my luck is going to schtako. So, tell us where you are, whats lures have been workin, the bass' behavoir, and where the hell you've been findin 'em!!!
