  1. I wanted to start a discussion for topwater baits everyone has had success with hunting the bronzebacks. Last weekend I hooked up on a few in East TN using a 3in topwater popper, and a few with a size 90 whopper plopper, but I'm curious as to what else might be a good topwater presentations? I've had some people recommend a jerkbait and one buddy even recommended wacky rigging a senko and dragging it on the top/a few inches down, but I haven't had time to try it out. I've also seen this "double plopper" A-rig looking buzz bait deal, and am very intrigued to hear if anyone has had success with it (at $18 a piece I didn't want to dive in if it's just a bunk bait). Lend me your knowledge, fellow smallie smackers!
  2. I'm thinking about picking one of these up as my next addition to the arsenal. Obviously I want to use it for jerkbaits, but it seem like it would be perfect for smaller spook-type baits and poppers as well. I would also want to use it for cranking squarebills through/near structure. I know people generally prefer longer rods for crankbaits, but I think this rod would probably be better suited to it than the two rods I already own. I fish a lot from a kayak so the smaller overall length and grip are probably even more of a benefit in that context. Any thoughts, commentaries, alternative suggestions? Thanks.
  3. I have my next rod purchase narrowed down, but need help picking a model/brand. I want to add a 6'6" Med/Mod-F Spinning rod to the arsenal for throwing all kinds of smaller treble hook style baits. The shorter length is specifically for walking-the-dog and working jerkbaits. This is also to help with accuracy when throwing squarebill cranks at timber. I plan to use this rod with spooks, poppers, crankbaits and jerkbaits, all on the smaller end of the spectrum. Any suggestions?
  4. I just wanted to post some lures I made recently. The glide baits are 5.5, 5, and 7.5 inches long for some perspective.
  5. I'm gonna be moving here shortly to Florida, and i've gained quite the arsonal of freshwater lures, which i'd like not to go to waste. Can i use my freshwater lures in saltwater? Will they work? If so which ones?
  6. We started working on these poppers over the weekend, ran about 94 of them. Ready to insert hooks, paint and get into tackle boxes They are a trial run, but things look good so far.
  7. Just wondering if anyone is using the Deps Pulsecod popper.
  8. I was just curious to hear some opinions on Popper colors for stained water for use during the day and a color for night time. Thanks again guys
  9. Just picked up three new bait. The Strikeking Crankbait 4s, 5 inch pumpkinseed senkos, and a Rebel Pop-r. I have heard nothing but good from these lures. If you have any experiences let me know! Thanks
  10. Does anyone have a favorite or go to lure that they use? Mine would be and original floating rapala in "silver" and firetiger. Or a hula popper or jitterbug in a frog color. Seems nothing can really match a rapala since they are very life like and swim great in the water. And topwaters are so fun to fish and produce great numbers.

  12. Went out on Greyknoll lake (Miami Gardens, South Florida) around noon with a cheap $2 popper from BPS in baby bass color.. The bass were hitting it like crazy! By the end of the day I had caught some nice 3+ lb largemouths and the popper was beaten up! My friend decided to throw a KVD squarebill in the bright yellow color, didn't get hit all day until we were trolling before heading in. He landed a solid 5. Good day!
  13. I'm curious if there are, or you can fish for, smallmouth bass in the Colorado River in western Colorado, near Grand Junction. I've Done every google search under the sun and all I can find is that the Division of Wild Life has been trying to remove Smallmouth bass from this part of the river for years. Which makes it sound like there must be fish, right? I mean really they should be paying me to remove these guys from the river for them! But then I look at Colorado's "Places To Fish" Map and the only species of fish listed to be in the Colorado are channel catfish and common carp. But I know this to be incorrect as I never catch rainbow at a pond which has only rainbow trout listed, and catch some monster largemouth and brown trout. I've come here searching for wisdom and experience, someone please please save me from going insane.
  14. I have been working at a plantation/marina for about three months now. It is a fishing community on the Okatie River in SC. We not only have the saltwater side of fishing but we have about 14 stocked ponds throughout the property here. With that being said....you can imagine how overfished these areas are. I fish them often and love using topwater poppers because of the strike. I can grab lips one after another with soft plastics and cranks here but i literally have not had one strike on a topwater since ive been fishing them. I feel like ive spent plenty of time showing them different presentations...am I being too impatient or do you think the fish here have just seen it too many times and got smart? Im still somewhat new to the area but i feel like ive done pretty good on matching up lure colors
  15. Hey Guys, A friend of mine who fishes's semi-professional introduced me to this lure. I ordered a couple, one in bone white & the other in a bluegill pattern. I've yet to catch a fish...but Its just my second day./outing. Are these lures superior to "Rebl Pop-R's or Yellow Magic? What is your top Top water Shallow bait...especially when you see them actively feeding or crashing shad??? I read in another bass forum that a Bass Pro met Don and he shared that his Splash It lure was nothing more than "sanded down-Rico rejects!" My friend swears by em...when the topwater bite is on. Just wanted to hear your experiences concerning this lure and anything relevant. Caught 2 bass today, one own the Booyah Pad Crasher..another on crickets...and then lost the frog to a "log fish!" Just lost a freaking SPRO yesterday...dam I'm rusty as hell! Bassing was brutal today...and after witnessing my wife haul in her 6th hand-size shell-cracker I succumbed...and we carried out about 20 slab size shellies! Any info would be greatly appreciated Thanks Reggie
  16. Hello all, Today I went down to the local dicks to get some of my first lures. I took a keen interest in fishing last summer, when I found a small lake about 15 minutes away from my house. It is well stocked with fish (especially largemouth bass!), and I managed to last the summer with cheapo worm, tube, and creature lures. Now that summer has rolled around I decided to head to dicks and get myself some good quality lures that will be very versatile. I stuck with name brands (rapala, rebel, strike king, berkley, etc), but I want to hear some feedback and I have some questions for you guys to answer! Here is the list of the lures I got. Strike king chartreuse/white spinnerbait (d38cw-3) Strike king series 3 chartreuse sexy shad crankbait Rebel foxy mama POP-R Rapala rippin rap loud rattling chartreuse shad (rpr-5) Berkley power bait grn pumpkin 5" power shaky worm Berkley power bait plum 7" power worm (ribbon tail worm) Zoom super salt plus finesse watermelon red magic (doesn't say length but relative to the 5" I would say it is also right near 5") All paired with 8 lb clear suffix elite monofilament And for the worms I got owner offset worm wide gap 2/0 (I realized after purchase that I should have bought a 3/0 and 4/0 and not just 2/0. Oh well I can stop by for a quick hook purchase.) What are some good colors for a pretty clear lake? Does the scent on the berkley power bait ACTUALLY work? And I was curious about a finesse worm so I bought it. What exactly is it? I just wanted a very attention attracting worm (basically its tail shakes a lot when Texas and wacky rigged), but I didn't exactly know what the finesse worm was, and dicks had it in a good color so I snagged it so can you fill me in? Finally how do you think I did on the purchasings? Anything I should substitute for a different product next time? Anything "essential" I should add? Thanks, Mike
  17. i was fishing a popper one day, i cast out and while letting the ripples die i watched a blue gill hitting a insect a couple of feet away from my popper when a bass blew up on my popper. this got me thinking that the bluegill making comotion helped entice the strike, so i tied about 18" of 8 lb. mono to the back hook of the popper and tied a panfish popper to the other end it. i fished this rig the rest of the evening and i was impressed that the addition of the panfish popper improved the presentation. what happens is blue gill will come up and hit the small popper and i let them mess with it and make some noise, next thing u no the gills dart away and a split-second later BOOM a bass eats the popper. as long as the small popper is getting messed with i am confident tht ths rig is actively attracting bass. only down side is the light popper whips around when casting and can become tangled in the treble hooks on the popper, however by slowing the speed of the bait through the air i can now consistently cast with out any problems.
