  1. Haven't really fished many jigs since I started bass fishing, but again I'm looking to expand my techniques. Picked up some 1/4oz SK Bitsy Flip jigs today after work. I bank fish and the ponds/lagoons I fish are very shallow, especially around the lilies and grass I've been catching fish on lately, so I wanted something light that would sink a little slower. I'm just looking to see what trailers y'all recommend for a small jig like the Bitsy Bug. Black and blue has been the hot color where I fish, so I got the black and blue jig and some matching black and blue Zoom Lil' Critter Craws. Any other plastics y'all think I should try?
  2. New PB and the first bass I've caught to break into the 8lb range. She weighed on the digital scale right at 8lbs 0oz. Super stoked to catch a fish this big, looking forward to more and bigger ones in the future ?. Figured I'd post her here to document the catch. Goodluck out there ya'll, go catch some bigguns!
  3. Hello All, I've recently joined the Forum after regularly reading up on the many questions others have had about the sport for about a year. Im still a novice when it comes to bass fishing, I started August of 2019, and I'd love to get more involved with this wonderful community. Very soon here I am going to buy a Fishing Kayak (waiting for the one I want to be in-stock) which should open up many new ponds and small lakes to try out here in Cali. Most of these ponds and small lakes are off the beaten path and almost impossible to fish from the bank, only accessible by kayak, but im able to scout the terrain and get a basic idea of the what waterbodies layout is. I am in love with hooking into big fish and I was wondering what the tell tale signs are for a waterbody to have big largemouth bass? So far I suspect deep water to be essential as well as water with decent water clarity, but im not entirely sure. What type of cover or structure should I keep an eye out for when I scout these waterbodies by foot? I can count all the 4lb+ bass ive ever caught on basically 2 hands so my experince with big fish is fairly limited. I have some general ideas of what to lookout for but I'd love to hear from you experienced guys out there. So far the Two water bodies I've scouted have a ton of standing timbre or have their banks covered with water primrose, water visibility both have about 2ft or so. Seen baitfish creating small wakes on waters surface and saw many old bluegill spawning beds so atleast there are fish hahaha. Any tips on finding some Hawgs? Thanks!
  4. Hi all, I recently got into bass fishing due to this COVID situation. Unfortunately, I don't have a boat or kayak and so I have to fish from the bank. Unfortunately, the only place I've caught bass is my local neighborhood pond. The other neighborhood ponds don't hold many bass. Are there any ponds in Vero Beach area I can fish? Thanks!
  5. So there is a small pond (maybe a couple of acres) in my neighborhood. I have been fishing there for over a decade and have probably spent hundreds of hours fishing it. The bass are very overpopulated and skinny and seem to cap out at around 12 inches. There are also healthy bluegill and crappie populations, but no small baitfish really at all. The biggest bass I have caught in there was probably about a pound. However, just today I had a moderately sized bluegill hooked (maybe 5-6 in) and as I was bringing it in a huge bass grabbed it (my best guess is 5-6 lbs), lost it, and went for it again unsuccessfully. Of course, now I have to catch this bass, but I am not sure how: it seems like if I were going to catch it I would have done so by now. I have used pretty much every bass pattern there is out there in this pond, but crayfish patterns, topwater (especially frogs, but poppers too), and medium soft plastics (worms, super flukes are the best) tend to work best in there. There is essentially no structure in the pond, except for a dam and a feeder creek. It is shallow: maybe 4-5 ft in the middle. I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions on how to catch this guy. I haven't really tried live bait before, so maybe that would work? Idk. Thanks!
  6. I'm here to ask about fellow fishermans opinions on putting weed killer in ponds/lakes. They say these chemicals do not kill the fish but I completely disagree with that. Ever since they started putting those blue chemicals in my local ponds the fishing got worse and worse over the years. 5 years ago the fishing was amazing in my area you can go out there and catch 5 bass in 10 minutes easily. Now I'm lucky if I can catch 1 dink in an hour! They recently put the chemicals in a pond I live near and the water is pure blue and all of the weeds are completely gone. I threw around for about 30 minutes and not only did I not get one bite, I also didn't see a single sign of life. No bait fish nothing. This was also a pond I used to be able to go to and catch hundreds of bass. I assume y'all agree with me but I've never heard anyone talk about this topic and want to know y'alls opinions.
  7. Every time I've gone fishing, it goes 1 of 2 ways: I don't catch anything or it's a one and done trip. I can never catch more than 1 fish at a time and I'm at a loss. I fish the same area I caught the first, use the same lure, eventually change areas and/or lure, and still nope. Just the one fish or nothing at all. What's that deal here??
  8. Hey guys/gals! My dad and I made it out for the first time this year here in Iowa and we didn't leave disappointed. Just jigging for a couple hours and I'd say it was a success.... This one was about 5 lb and caught one other just over 4 lb! Thanks!!
