  1. Hello I’m new here and I’m posting due to some frustration from something that occurred two days ago. I got back into fishing about 6 weeks back, first time since I was a teenager. I’ve been out everyday these 6 weeks and only just found a decent location two days ago. Broke my dry spell and was catching LMB and peacocks, 2-3lbers. Now I want to first paint a picture here. This was a park in south Florida with a small narrow canal on one side and a small lake/canal on the other. The small narrow canal has bushes where I was but the further end of it is clear. I was standing in the small clearing between the bushes. Entire park is about 1 mile from side to side. When I arrived there were two guys fishing near the entrance, so I walked to the far other end away from them so I wasn’t fishing on top of them. I ended up going to the small narrow canal on the opposite side of the park from them, and after a few catches I noticed several pretty big peacocks that were spawning. The biggest easily being 10lbs, biggest peacock I’ve seen in person. so I spent a good 15 minutes working my senko and I was getting hits and having it chase but never hooking. After about 30 minutes total in this one narrow small spot the 2 guys from before walk up, now with an additional 3 guys, and crowd around either side of me and start trying to catch them too. I mean literally on top of me shoulder to shoulder. It wasn’t a large area at all. Honestly it was barley enough for even two people to stand in and fish comfortably. I decided I would stand my ground and never stop casting and this upset them, they had the audacity to tell ME to go away as if I was the one intruding. Here’s the part that really gets me. They were using shiners. Just planting them directly in the nest. You’re all but guaranteed a catch at that point. Had it been a lure, okay at least then it’s just a matter of who has better luck/skill. But it was akin to shooting them in a barrel. I didn’t think much of it and figured whatever they’ll catch it, release and be on their way and then I’ll have my space to cast and catch it after, not a huge deal. Then after catching the 10 pounder the guy knifes the fish in the head and harvests it. Then they do it again, and again, and again and harvest every spawning peacock going over the bag limit. 10+ fish into their bucket. What should or could I have even said to make them give me my space? They could have at minimum easily waited for me to catch and release and then harvested it after. They were gone before FWC would have been able to show up and do anything. I wanna clear up potential confusion. I don’t necessarily have an issue with harvesting if someone’s following regs. But I find it a little crappy to harvest a huge nesting game fish/management species. But that’s neither here nor there, my main issue is them standing all on top of me and basically screwing me out of the catch spent time working on. It was crappy and they know what they were doing, I have no clue what I was supposed to say. I can easily foresee them responding bad to anything there is to say like “oh well you don’t own the water.” It was just super messed up. also, these are not invasive at least in this area. They’re considered “Introduced nonnative” and are a management species to help keep actually detrimental invasives such as carp or snakehead under control. Removing the bigger ones is heavily discouraged by the FWC because of this. Harvesting them causes more harm than good. But again my biggest problem is idk how to deal with a situation like this, then trying to bully me out of my spot and just fishing on top of it.
  2. Hi there. I am trying to surprise my boyfriend with a fishing trip to Miami to catch a peacock bass (his fishing goal). I read that Muami Falls Canal is one of the best places to catch one. Can anyone confirm this? Also, is it possible to enter the canals by boat? If so, can you give an address of one near by? Sorry for all of the questions. We live about 4 hours north and I know nothing about the area. Any help with this is greatly appreciated!
  3. Im new to South florida, ive been fishing up and down orange drive, east to west and havent got a hit, can anyone let me know where great peacock bass spots are fishing from shore
  4. Over the last three years, I have noticed the wildlife diminishing in and on our small lake here in Sunrise. And I noticed the Snakehead fish population has increased. We normally have many families of water birds raise their families on the water, but not last year and none so far this year. Normally the mullets are jumping out of the water, and you can see the assorted bass and other small species through the clear fresh water. Now I only see snakehead fish. I believe they have eaten the fish and eat the baby widelife....ducklings, soft shell turtles, young iguanas, and anything that may fall in the water. When Irma left, the water level rose by 8 feet on to the grass. The Snakehead came upto the edge eating the insects in the fresh grass. The weird thing was as we looked at them, they stared at us, making eye contact, and followed our movement. As the water resided, they wriggled around the edges. Unfortunately, we do not have enough people fishing our lake. Anybody interested in fishing snakehead? Signed, Missing the wildlife
  5. What's up Bass Resource, @BryanTheCEO here and greetings from Miami, FL. I figured I would join up on the forum to meet more anglers with a passion for fishing, like myself. Most of my days are spent putting others on peacock bass, but I do enjoy hitting the shorelines keeping my own lines tight. So, with that being said, I am glad to be here and I look forward to both learning from and contributing to this forum. Tight lines!
  6. Does anyone know a guide where I can catch tarpon or snook and peacock bass in the same day?
  7. Hello my fellow bass fishermen I am making my first trip to south florida on june 30th thru july 2nd. Looking for suggestions on places I can fish from land. Thanks in advance!
  8. Hey guy I'll be in west palm beach for the weekend and wanted to do some fishing any good spot? Thanks in advance!
  9. I am visiting someone in a few days whos back yard is on the L-14 Drainage canal in lake worth, connected to lake osborne. Im not to farmilliar to this are because I live in NJ. I think there could be decent LMB and maybe even some peacocks, clowns, and catfish because it is connected to Lake Osborne. Am I correct? I would apreciate if someone could tell me if they have fished there and what they caught. Thanks!
  10. Hey Folks, I am considering restringing my spinning outfits. I run a charter in South Florida, targetting mostly Largemouth in the Everglades, however I do run a lot of Peacock Bass trips. I have traditionally been using Mono around the 10-15lb weight class. I have also experimented with co-polymers (flourocarbon coated mono). The bass get big down here, and i often deal with pretty heavy cover and structure. Also my peacock trips are primarily utelizing live shiners. These monster peacocks and clownknive fish are snapping through the mon and copolymer lines way to quickly for my liking. I am thinking of switching my reels to braid, maybe flouro leaders too. I will break down my primary uses of spinning gear in hopes you all and your vast knowledge can offer some advice on which line or combo of line, would best suit my methods. Topwater plugs, like torpedoes, poppers etc - mono 10-12 lbs because it floats and I like the strretch for those bass that chase, inhale and keep running.... weightless soft plastics, like flukes and stick baits (senko style) -also mono 10-12lb for the stretch again, i think it allows me to give the lures more action with a softer feel (if that makes sense).... Live shiners for peacock and clown knive fish (strong fighters that can reach 15 pounds) -pline copolymer (flourocoated mono) 15lbs - well because i thought it may be stronger and still not visible.... I have 4 outfits tgo restring, any advice is greatly appreciated, thanks folks!
  11. Greetings everyone, I'm new to this forum and fairly new to bass fishing. If you all can give me a hand, I'm looking for fishing spots in the Broward County area. I've gone to the Silver Lakes Rotary Park and only been able to catch two small bass there. Also, what color baits do you all suggest for these areas? Thank you,
  12. Hey guys I'm new to south Florida I've recently moved here from New Jersey and I currently live in Lauderhill. Seeing as to how it is going to be bass spawn soon I want to get into fishing after seeing some amazing catches all over the Internet but I don't know any good spots around here if anyone knows any please feel free to help me out
  13. Surely you've seen River Monsters. Who hasn't? He goes all over the world, 6 continents to catch crazy fish. Well, Thailand has got all of those fish he's caught - spread out in one lake (well actually multiple lakes). On top of that, it's incredibly cheap to fish there, and there is relatively open water, meaning little to no snags, meaning lighter tackle meaning a harder fight. It truly is an amazing place to fish. So I started thinking - why aren't there places like this in the states? There are more people than you'd think that keep alligator gar (a native fish in the first place), arapaima, and especially red tail catfish, tiger shovelnose catfish, and other large cats among others. Getting the fish would be kind of expensive, but you could buy bulk farm raised fish and probably save some money with it. So here's a question for you - what species would you like to be able to fish for in your home state? Disregarding things like the lake freezing over and such.
  14. Hi all. Just wondering. What do you all have more fun catching, Large Mouth Bass or Peacock?
  15. My friend and I are really interested in catching some Peacocks. Our friends catch big'uns in their ponds and lakes but don't want to share their spots. Please any help is appreciated. We don't know what we're doing.
  16. The overcast skies today in Southeat Florida made for good fishing weather. Anybody catch a big 'un? What would be your favorite baits to use on an overcast day like this one?

  18. Ok, Im sure plenty of people on this site fish for Peacock Bass here in South Florida. I am trying to plan a day to take my wifes grandfather fishing for them. I do see a lot of videos that are posted on youtube and such that show some people in canals in the Miami area. Can someone help a fellow fisherman and tell me where to go? If anyone on here has a good canal for them and can help me so I can get some fish on, it would be greatly appreciated. I am going to be walking the banks and not using a boat. I live in Coral Springs in Broward, so I know all the canals around here, and walk different ones evertime I go out. I just need a good hot spot to pinpoint for one day.
